[ Dream Event // Semi-Open ]
(( OOC: It’s a mystery game! You join Sherlock in one of his former cases, which he is reliving and has conveniently forgotten the details of. The storyline can be influenced by your character, or you can just be along for the ride/social aspect!

It is assumed that you will be Sherlock’s assistant, but minor roles are open for villains who wish to join in. Please PM/IM if the villain role is your intention and I will see if I can’t fit you in. Interested? Read on! Everyone should realize I’m very wordy by now.

The ‘Semi-Open’ case is first come, first serve. If you see someone replying to that case, PM me to see if you can’t be worked in as well. ))

General Dream Information

The places will be different, but the way you perceive things will be much the same. Everything is very vibrant. You’ve never realized how much one object can stand out from the rest. Not only that, but everything has labels - little floating descriptors that you cannot touch, but see all the same. Some have more, some less.

For example, there can be a simple nightstand. Its labels read ‘Nightstand. Manufactured. Fiberglass.’ You notice it is missing its corner because that part of the table pulses with a glow. You see a stain and go to inspect it. Touching it proves dry and it is a dull red. Under the other labels, a new one forms ‘Blood?’. Sherlock is inherently knows what you have been looking at and comes to inspect it himself because he feels he must (by this you may control his progress). He looks it over, and now the label reads ‘Blood? Red Wine Stain’.

Unless you realize that you are dreaming, you don’t know that you have powers, nor do you know that you are stronger than any other human you see doddering around.

Some bleeding can occur as your character’s memories combine with Sherlock’s. This has mostly been already OOCly pre-arranged, but if you’re interested in something specific, PM me. If we haven’t agreed that you are allowed to bring characters/situations in, or that I’m allowed to suggest someone would be familiar to your character, assume that everything is going to be to Sherlock’s memory.

How to Play

Active Assistant - You help Sherlock by calling his attention to things you think are important. I’ll tell you what is in the room/area beforehand. You can either actually call him to review something or simply add your own label to that object. To do the latter, simply distinguish the text in some way within your action.

Ex:
[ Billy Bob noticed that the victim was wearing a fedora.

Add Label - Victim: So Stylish ]

Ask him questions, offer theories. When the right information has been gathered, Sherlock will lead you on to the next venue or the next part of the plot will occur.

Passive Observer - He just can’t get rid of you. You can offer encouragement, criticism. If Sherlock gets away from you, you can sense where he’s headed. If you don’t follow Sherlock and wander off to explore the world, you will find yourself no longer in it. (This is a way for you to step out early)

Sherlock will find what he’s looking for with or without you, but it will be faster to move the plot if you actually help him out.

Villain/Antagonist - Depends on the individual. If you’re just in the world to cause disarray to Sherlock’s crimescene, you are going to be identified as an intruder and his mind will begin to rebel against your existence. Eventually you will be booted out, but hey, it’s the ride that’s fun, right?

If you’re being cast as the villain, and do not realize you are dreaming, I will PM you with your specific goals/situation and you will be playing against Sherlock and his assistant(s). You can be the big reveal or a temporary antagonist. This role is pretty much made for someone who would rather be action-based and getting some quick CR.

Warnings

- Gruesome descriptions may occur regarding crimescenes.
- Violence can occur, but it is not guaranteed.
- You may die! If you die in the dream, you are booted out!
- Sherlock may die and can be killed! If Sherlock dies, you are booted from the dream.
- You are tethered to Sherlock for better or worse. You are limited to the area he is in. This is largely subconcious, the general feeling that you probably shouldn’t wander too far away. Say Sherlock is in a manor: you are limited to his room and a few of the surrounding rooms. If you go too far, you feel like the world is beginning to blur a little. Continuing on means you are booted from the dream. In this way, your character can get sick of Sherlock and make an escape.
- You may leave the rp at any time. The case may or may not be reset to accomodate someone new. (In the case of people who plotted in the OOC thread, the case is ended)
- You will probably have to be backtagging this for a long time.

Case One | Closed | Miles Edgeworth

[ You are in a train car, sitting opposite of Sherlock Holmes himself. His head is leaned against the window, where the sky is only just tinted with light. You don’t know if it’s dusk or dawn quite yet. Most of the scenery is countryside, flat and green with the occasional little cluster of trees. It’s quaint, and there’s the occasional homestead or a house on the occasional hill.

Sherlock doesn’t seem to be paying much attention to it, though. ]

I have learned to abhor the countryside. I’ll be glad when we’re rid of it.

But once we arrive, there will be little time for explanation. If you have any questions, now is the time to ask them.

Case Two | Closed | Lambdadelta

[ You're in the city, but in what looks to be a little residential district. It's mid-morning and there are cars parked all along the street, and people in blue rain-jackets beginning to stripe up the area with police caution tape. Despite the warning, there are those that stand on the sidewalks trying to get a peek at what's going on inside the house.

Quite a house it is, too. It's small, but tall, built on a high foundation, an audacious green and white coloring. What's to be noted, however, is that it's leaning distinctly to the left, as if it's ready to fall over at any moment.

There's a man in civilian clothes (most definitely not an officer, at least) striding right for the blocked-off portion of the street. He ducks under the tape without any regard for the patrolling officer (who doesn't see him yet).

Hey, maybe you can sneak in too? ]

(( OOC: You can try following Sherlock into the house or ask a 'bystander' what's going on. ))

Case Three | Closed | Arianna

[ Your mother has told you that Mister Holmes is a specialist, but you're not entirely sure what to make of him just yet. He's come to the fair in his civilian clothes, first off, despite your family's request that he blend in. He sticks out like a sore thumb in his suit-jacket, and made no apologies to it from the moment he entered your tent. As far as you know, though, he's hear to help. That's stilled your tongue for now.

The first thing he asked for were the facts of the matter at hand. He sits at leisure -actually, it's more of a splay, like he's spilled himself across the chair- across from your mother, his face impassive as she recounts what she can. He's young, not much older than you, actually. He's not even writing anything down!

As your mother says, your sister has been missing for a day now. That's not usual, especially since you've all been temporarily living here, in the park, among other vendors. She knows to be extra careful in places like this, so open to the public, and she would have told someone if she were going to spend the night elsewhere. You're family is familiar with the fair since it's been something they've been a part of for a few generations, being proud of a heritage that can trace itself back to medieval times. When you ask around, you know you're getting the right answers, so it's concerning when you learn the last anyone has seen your sister, she had stepped away from her stall as a seer to take a break. ]

Boyfriend?

[ Not that your mother knows of. And she can't think of anyone who would want to hurt her (she's holding it together remarkably well). Holmes rises from his seat, seemingly unfazed by the tale. ]

Mrs. Abernetty, my suggestion to you is to call the Yard. If you got my contact, you certainly have theirs. Best of luck.

[ Just like that? He's leaving? Your mother is understandably gobsmacked; the reason she contacted this man was to avoid going to the police. You don't exactly remember why, but it seems obvious that you don't want to cause more of a disturbance than you have to. ]

(( OOC: Fill in first names and appearances as you like! People who are Arianna's family... should look like Arianna's family/close friends/etc! ))

Case Four | Semi-Open | ???

(( OOC: First person to respond to this prompt gets to be on the case. Please do not join if you see someone has claimed this spot, but PM if you are interested in joining in. This case is open to multiple people, but only with PM permission. Likewise, if you are the person joining this first, be aware more people might hop in. ))

[ “This is a sensitive subject, as you can tell.”

You have opened the door to a spacious, but not overly ostentatious, office. You are facing the back of a very tall, but slender individual with dark hair. He’s standing before the desk of an older gentleman, head full of hair but long bleached white with age.

‘Doctor Dorian Fields, Medical Director.’ Reads his label, ‘Newly appointed, aprx. three months. Former Chief of Surgery. Age 62.’

Dr. Fields continues on, heedless to your presence.

“I don’t want anyone giving this publicity, and I certainly do not want anyone knowing that I appointed you to investigate. God knows I can’t have anyone thinking I actually believe in this lunacy.”]

Certainly not. Though, I wouldn’t leave my door unlocked for anyone to simply bumble in.

[ The dark-haired man looks over his shoulder at you, tilting a brow. You get the sense he was talking about you. ]

Who are you?

[ “Mister Holmes, it’s quite alright. This is our Chief Nurse. They’re just in from holiday, so they aren’t familiar with the details, but they can assist you in any matter regarding our staff. Lock the door, will you? There’s a love.”

You shut and lock the door without thinking. This is your boss, after all, no matter how short a term he’s been allowed to have such a title. When you turn back, Holmes is facing you, and though he wears a slight smile, you get the feeling that he’s pasted it on for comfort. His eyes are intense as they stare at you. You get the feeling he’s going to ask you something you don’t want to answer. ]

Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective. You’ve picked quite an inopportune time to be on holiday, it seems. Or was it entirely opportune? [ Smirk ] Mister/Missus...?

It doesn't make any sense for her to wander off dressed like this without a coin to her name. [Some niggling voice in the back of her head wonders why being 'dressed like this' is strange but goes ignored. She's also ignoring the fact that her brother Gwydion looks like any minute he'll try to steer her back into her seat.]

One hour. If you don't find anything to convince you, we'll pay your price and leave you in peace.

It sounds like you think I don't have other things to do, Miss Abernetty.

[ Still, he has registered this as a challenge upon his powers. There are already signs to him of what may have transpired already, so there is a theory to follow. His eyes flit to Mrs. Abernetty, resting there for some time before his lips twitch with a decision. ]

...

Alright. One hour. [ He pulls out his mobile to register the time ] Just tell me the way to her set-up.

You'll have an easier time of it if I come with you. People won't be so suspicious. [And while her mother is doing a remarkable job of not falling to pieces, she shouldn't have to deal with difficult people on top of her stress. Gwydion would want to stay to make sure she's all right...so Arianna's the only one who can be spared.]

It's this way. [And she's already halfway out the tent.]
