=morning=
[Allen's in the hospital, badgering the robots for medication so that his stupid Master can not get an infection and not die. he's not looking so great after a night without sleep, and his clothes are rumpled from the night's chaos. you might run into him there]

=evening=
[andddd later in the day he has thankfully gotten a nap, showered and changed, and collected his dog. he figures Lavi hasn't eaten, and he's still not home, so he actually brings some food to the library and Lavi... isn't anywhere. puzzled, he decides that the solution is ~*~trolling~*~, and turns on his communicator]

((ooc: you can run into him however you like; if you need to send him a message for some reason, you can do that here too!))

[ whenever Allen gets there, he'll have to put a little effort in to finding Lavi. he's managed to find a corner completely out of the way and is not doing anything to call attention to himself. he just has a foot propped up on the seat, and rests his arm on it, an empty rocks glass still dangling from his fingers. his communicator's on the table, off, now that his little s.o.s. is done.

he's just idly spinning an empty bottle of grain alcohol on the table, lost in thought.

in a way... he's almost glad he watched all those recordings. if he needed a reminder how he was supposed to feel about people, that served extremely well. he's just... tired of feeling so damn disappointed. ]

[he steps in (with the dog) and slowly moves through the room when he doesn't see Lavi, finally catching a glimpse of him -- well, brooding in the corner]

[coming up to him and gently taking his toys away]

Hey.

[ hey that was his best toy-- puffsighs and pushes his hair off his face, definitely a little glassy-eyed ]

Hey. [ sits up a little ] Hey, hey... take a wild guess at what a world war is.

[his eyes widen, for a moment unable to stop the brief surprised reaction. it doesn't take much guessing to figure it out]

Come on, let's go. I'm going to help you up now. [moving to take Lavi's arm]

[ pulls his arm back for a moment. no, no, you have to play along. ]

No, really, guess. Now... guess how many they've had in the future-- two. Millions killed. Remember when the Earl destroyed Edo? They've got bombs in the future that can do that... wipe out sixty thousand people like that. [ snaps his fingers ]

[he did not see the Earl do that but he can well imagine]

...I take it your documentary-watching didn't go well. [muted. he glances down. Lincoln is underfoot; the puppy does not know what's going on but there are interesting smells on the floor to be investigated]

[ expression twists a bit and he just deflates a little. ]

Maybe it did. Learned a lot of new words. [ like "chemical warfare" and "genocide". ]

... [ rubs at his face -- it feels sort of numb. also muted ]

They're not worth saving.

You kill the Earl, they're still gonna do their damnedest to destroy each other.

[ ... there. he said it. shifts to try and stand up -- oh, hi, dog -- aaaand the room's spinning just a little. grips the wall with one hand ]

Anything that gets built up gets torn down... anything they make that's beautiful, they're gonna wind up ruining it.

Don't say that.

[but he surges forward when Lavi reels, steadying him and working Lavi's arm around his shoulders. okay, okay, don't do that]

Don't -- don't people make beautiful things, too? Things that wouldn't exist without them.

[ snorts; leans on him a little. ]

Doesn't stay that way. Just winds up gettin' perverted... used for war. Or somebody decides they want it. [ he's not angry, really. his tone is just bitter; the contempt easy to hear even when the words slur together. ]

They use bake ovens to burn bodies... radios to incite people to slaughter their neighbors. Just never ends, man. They're not worth it.

[they use what] [but it's hard to really make sense of it delivered in this fashion, with Lavi in this condition; he starts moving, slowly, and just says, guiding them out the door]

But, you know -- you've been so excited in the past about things like learning Sumerian, and finding trade documents from long-dead civilizations... Those things wouldn't be so exciting if they weren't rare and almost lost.

If the ancient Etruscan [God is that a thing? how does he use it in this sentence] -- society still existed, wouldn't that mean some culture that came after them wouldn't exist? Or the Romans -- wouldn't be as great as they are?

[looking up at the cool dark night] Even when terrible things happen, in the long run it can mean something good -- or exciting or beautiful.

[out of his depth, but he believes this]

[ when he's sobered up, he'll tell you about the Etruscans, beansprout. the fresh air helps with the dizziness, but he's mostly quiet, listening to how Allen sees things.

and it's just what he'd expect from Allen, really. he shakes his head after a minute. ]

There'd always be history. Just a different kind. [ one foot in front of the other, Junior. there we go. ] Point of history's t'learn from it. People don't go to a massacre site and think "fuck, can't let that happen again". They go and wonder how the winner managed to kill so many people... can we do that... or make it better, cleaner, less expensive, faster...

That's just wrong. [he's sure about this much] Just because tragedies keep happening doesn't mean everyone wants them to -- or doesn't care when they do.

[ dismissive ] Individuals aren't usually historically significant. Happens enough and so varied that the only conclusion's that people can't prevent conflict an' horror.

If they don't want it, they at least don't stop it. [ avooooooids something in the street that looks like a rock but is probably just shadow. ]

[sort of stumbling a little, where are we going, Lavi] --I know. But there's a difference between saying "people keep starting wars" and "people don't care". People care. It's countries, governments or organizations...

[that's when he recognizes this argument. he murmurs] Alma said the same thing. [he looks up at Lavi] If the Order was involved in something terrible like the Second Exorcist project -- does that mean I don't care?

Not the worst place t'fall asleep. Wouldn't have to worry about getting run over by a carriage.

[ is quiet for a bit as they walk. tired. the indignation buzz is wearing off. ]
