[ VIDEO - FILTERED AWAY FROM JACK HARKNESS, IANTO JONES, KITTY PRYDE THE OLDER ]

[ Reid has spent some time carefully setting up the encryption, knowing fully well that his attempts to keep this discussion away from from the people that might take it the wrong way may result in them taking it the wrong way, should they ever find out. This is the best way he can think of to discuss this though, as a community and after yesterdays events he feels a stronger need to rally than ever before.

He's in full on Serious Mode when he clicks on the feed, voice even and confident, perhaps more so than most are used to seeing him. ]

Good afternoon. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Spencer Reid. I'm a member of the Behaviour Analysis Unit of the FBI back home — law enforcement. I used to be part of the Investigative Team- [ Pretty much co-founded it back on day 150. ] - but quit the Force some time ago... and that leads us to what I want to discuss.

As some of you might know, the Defence Force has been controversial for longer than we've been in this prison. I feel, and I doubt I'm alone in this feeling, that it has outgrown its original purpose. There aren't that many of us left, certainly not enough to warrant an internal police force like this. Concerns have been brought up in the past that the Force acts without taking into account the wishes of the rest of the population, with regards to escape plans as well as punishments of our fellow inmates.

This is why I'm addressing you — I want to hear your opinions on the current state of the Defence Force. What is your impression? And, in a broader sense, what do you feel we as a community should do to better protect and care for each other?

Oh, and - please be discreet. I'm not looking to cause trouble with the current leaders of the Force, but I also don't wish to provoke them with this discussion. For the time being, please keep this between us.

[ Video - Chekov ]

Chekov - a word?

[ Video - Karev ]

Hey, uhm... Alex? Can I talk to you?

[ If an organisation can't be critiqued, it's not a good organisation. At least, that's what Reid thinks. You don't improve by being complacent.

This, however, is a personal call. ]

I, uhm. I think it's time we clear the air a bit. [ And his throat. ] About Kitty.

[Actually, maybe talking about the Force would be better.]

Ah. Yes, okay. What... er, what needs to be cleared?

[ Probably, yes. ]

I'm not good with these things... [ Admitting that right from the start. ] ...but I feel like we're avoiding the subject whenever we meet. It's a small dome. Interpersonal relationships get more complicated here than they would back home. There's no room to retreat.

It isn't a subject that is relevant to the things that we talk about. [Probably because they've been careful to keep things safe. You know, by avoiding the subject just like Reid said.]

If you want to discuss it, I'm here now. [To his dismay.]

I don't, really... but I think we have to, sooner or later, if we want to stay friends. [ Because as much as he tries not to let it get to him it's eating away at him. It happened so quickly and after the seamless transition between Tyki and himself, it's hard not to speculate. ]

So, how's uhm. How's that going?

[That should be an easy question to answer. It isn't. Chekov likes to answer things Correctly and there's no Correct when you're talking to your girlfriend's ex with the intention of staying friends.]

It... ah. It's unusual, but going... well, I think?

Unusual how?

[ That seems like a good enough place to start. He's starting to suspect this was a bad idea. ]

Why does this matter? [He gives up on struggling to find the right words. Things haven't stopped happening since his recent three-year trip home and he doesn't want to do this.] It doesn't need to be complicated, Doctor.

It's already complicated. Kitty and I broke up thirty-five days ago. [ And if this wasn't Reid and Reid keeps track of everything to the day, that might mean something. ]

How long have you been together?

You've been in the process of breaking up since before I came to MarinaNova on Day 293. Kitty was miserable, you were miserable--you were apart long before either of you admitted it. [There's some frustrated gesticulating going on now.]

We have had the bands for twelve days and that shouldn't be important to you when you have been out of love with her for months.

[ Oh, fun, she waited two whole weeks before hooking up with someone else. Doesn't that make him feel special. ]

And just what would you know about the way I feel?

[ Cold. Measured. Have you heard him angry before? Really angry? ]

[Ha, this is terrible. This is entirely terrible and, since he can't unsay what he just said, why not give in to annoyance and barrel along?]

I know that, if you had been willing to try, she would have stayed with you. She still loves you.

[ Goddamn Chekov how is he supposed to stay mad at you when you're so pathetic in such a familiar way? ]

...I've been there too, you know. Technically speaking, she hadn't exactly broken up with Tyki before we started dating. [ And nothing in the world can convince Reid that this thing with Chekov doesn't have overlap. ] Even after that, she'd still spend time with him, regardless of what he did to prove that he wasn't worth her time.

[ The most stubborn person he's met, for good and bad. ]

Listen - I like talking to you. You're one of the smartest people in here... but I can't pretend like this isn't a problem. I'm not asking you to stop seeing her or anything like that, because if yesterday is any indication maybe you actually have a shot. I just- I want to find a way to move past this.

I don't understand why you're telling me this or what you would like me to do. [He's too baffled to stay irritated and he just wants to know what to say to make things okay.] Perhaps if you clearly define your problem, it will become simpler to see how it can be overcome...?

I don't know if there's really anything that can be done. I don't even have a problem with you, it's just- [ He sighs. Yesterday messed with him more than he's willing to admit. ] Maybe I can't salvage any kind of friendship with Kitty, but I also know that I can't afford to lose more people here. <

From what you told me, it had only been two weeks since the breakup when you and Kitty engaged in what can only be considered a serious relationship. Don't you see how that's... problematic? [ It hurts. ] She clung on so hard, harder and longer than she should've and then once it was over she just... moved on to the next? Again?

I'm not looking to get back with her, for the record. I don't want to get in the way of your relationship, not at all. It just seems very... unfair, to all parties involved.

It has been thirty-five days since the official dissolution of your relationship with Kitty, yes, but I don't think that was when it truly ended... and I don't think that she has moved on so quickly and thoroughly as you imagine. [She certainly hasn't from his perspective.]

Maybe it would be more productive if you were to discuss this with her. She wants to be your friend... you don't need to lose her friendship, and maybe it would help both of you to talk.

How would talking to her be a good idea if she hasn't gotten over the breakup? She's the one in a new relationship — with you, at that! Why would you want me anywhere near her to complicate things further?

[ No, seriously. He knows that he has very little actual experience with relationships but that seems like the opposite of a good idea. ]

[Chekov is far out of his depth here. Things were so simple with his previous girlfriends (as few as there have been) and he wants this to be simple too.]

She's over being with you. [Even if she's not entirely over loving him.] It seems that something needs to be said between you. I don't know what it is, but this--this problem, I can't resolve it.

[ What's there even left to say? They've talked so much and for a moment it seemed like they actually could communicate like adults and then things went to shit again. No, Reid doesn't know what could possibly be said to solve this problem. He sighs, mentally striking two more names off his ever shrinking list. ]

Fair enough. Sorry for wasting your time.

[From Chekov's point of view, this conversation wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Awkward and confusing, yes, and he still isn't sure what he's supposed to be doing or offering or saying, but nothing caught on fire.]

Nothing was wasted. I, ah... I hope that the other replies to this will be informative.

[ The problem here is the same problem he's had with the survey in general — he doesn't feel like he's being heard, or at least not understood. It's frustrating for a guy like him, but maybe not that surprising. ]

We'll see. I'm sure you can read the report later. I plan on handing it over to Kitty in a few days time.
