DAY 398 | OPEN | VIDEO
[ Have you ever been treated to heavy breathing on the end of a phone call? Well, that's the sound you're hearing now, except there's a video to go with it, which is mostly occupied by Kirk's sweat-streaked, dirt smudged, scratched up face. He looks more put upon than hurt, and from the looks of the background he's somewhere green and up high. He's tucked tight against what appears to be a tree trunk, running a hand through his hair and flashing his best charming grin under the circumstances. ]

So, probably not the smartest decision ever in my life, but I've found myself up at tree and in need of some assistance. If anyone has suggestions on how to make it out of Sector 6 with...

[ He paused and looked down, moving his lips as his eyes flicked back and forth purposefully. ]

Let's say around four very unhappy raptors. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

[ Hopefully everyone got this without static, but who knows, right? He's hoping for the best. Seems to usually work form. Usually. ]

Ah, good. If no one reaches you, then you can bore them into leaving. [Not actually sarcasm. That's a solid plan. Even super-raptors would get bored, right?] I promise that they will get tired of waiting to eat you before I get tired of talking to you to make sure that you're still alive.

You have a way with reassuring words, Chekov.

[ It's not all sarcasm there. ]

You can tell me more about this lady-friend of yours while we wait.

That is a gift of mine.

[He knows he doesn't, don't avoid sarcasm to spare his feelings.]

What do you know already? [Why does he feel like anything he says can and will be used against him?]

Not much, just that I've never heard you use any kind of tone like that when talking about a lady before is all.

[ So he has ideas, Chekov. Quite a few of them, but he's not going to assume anything just quite yet. ]

Have I talked to you about very many ladies?

[What has Chekov-that-is-from-a-later-canon-point-than-this-one-as-of-this-thread been telling you, Kirk? (Probably plenty. Given a little more time in space together to get past the captain-crew relationship barrier, Chekov would (will) absolutely confide in Kirk.)

Mostly he doesn't know what to tell Kirk about Kitty because that's a confusing thing that involves a long story that isn't appropriate when there are hungry raptors around. This is stalling.]

[ Kirk's head tilted slightly, considering that question and how much to say, if it would affect the future of things. ]

A fair share. They do seem to love those curls and that accent.

[ He's not one to press, and he would rather go with an easy flow of conversation than try and pry something out. He was putting more than enough effort into keeping his legs and body in general away from the raptors below. ]

They do? [He is quite surprised to hear that those traits of his are appealing since no one who is a girl has ever mentioned being particularly attracted to either. Then again, he has only ever had two girlfriends, so...]

I think that, with Kitty, those things work against me. She had a husband who was Russian and a [a slight pause while he searches for the right word and utterly fails to find it] friend who looked very like me.

[ Oh Chekov. Sweet, sweet, adorable Chekov. ]

Do they work against you, or for you? Because if you two are getting cozy, they're certainly not a detriment.
