[He's not quite sure what he expected - another shrug, perhaps, or a vehement denial - but what he gets is a long lack of response followed by whiskey followed by being ignored as Spike gets down to his next shot, which is rather unnerving in as much as it means he's got it dead right.

He watches Spike miss the shot, frowning, and then props his own cue against the table so as to have both hands free as he steps in front of Spike and closes his hands around leather-clad biceps, peering into Spike's face.]

Spike. You're good enough, all right? Sure, you've done some questionable things but so have we all and that's never stopped me wanting someone. There's a lot about you that's attractive, and it's not just that you're drop dead gorgeous and hotter than hell. You're straight talking, and perceptive in a way I'll never be, you're fiercely loyal and you're good for Ianto, which means more than perhaps anything else, to me.

[ Not too long ago that would've been exactly what Spike would've done — shrug, deflect, squirm out of those too-warm hands grabbing him by the arms. He does none of those things, tho Jack can probably feel him tense, see the way he's avoiding eye contact. He's not good at vulnerability. It gets you killed and then you have moments like these where vulnerability is exactly what you need. He swallows, steels himself to look back at Jack. ]

Don't be fooled by the signs, don't read in between the lines.

[ He knows what he is. People've been telling him that his entire life. ]

[They've been deflecting long enough, the two of them, forever avoiding talking about the things they need to talk about. It's improved in recent weeks - they've managed to get down to some of the serious nitty gritty in their last couple of conversations - but there's still a lot more to be said, and this in particular, Jack feels, is something that needs to be addressed before they can go much further.]

Spike. For god's sake, Ianto's fallen in love with you, and he's one of the best men I've ever known! I don't think he would have done that if you hadn't been worth it.

[ He can't help but flinch out of reflex — don't bring up God in this. Not that he's so sensitive but yeah, vulnerability and lowering his guard and some things are so ingrained in his very spine that he can't help himself.

He squirms himself out of Jack's grip to reach for the pen and napkin again, turning it over and jotting down a sentence. He doesn't trust his voice to properly convey what he wants to say.

Good people always do what's worst for them. Trust me on that. ]

[He feels the flinch - was expecting it - and lets go easily enough when Spike starts to squirm, even before he realises he's doing it so he can get to the pen and paper again. He waits rather tensely as Spike writes, watching over his shoulder and grunting impatiently once he's got the gist of it, before Spike's even reached the end.]

Not always. And anyway, in what way exactly are you bad for him? Or for me?

For people like me, there is no order.

[ The best he can say on the subject. He's chaos, he's destruction and if anyone is going to fuck this up, his bet is on himself. ]

Love giving you the run around, it really makes you crazy. This business is killing me.

[ Love's bitch, or something to that effect. He reaches for the whiskey again, needing something to wash all this down with. ]

For someone who comes across as such a cocky git, you're really not very confident in yourself, are you? [It's something he can empathise with to a certain extent - because however confident he is in bed, he's never thought of himself as particularly loveable, or worth someone hanging on to - but it's not something he expected to find, at least not to this level, in Spike.

He frowns, leaning back against the table, studying him.]

I'm not going to give up on you, you know. I'm going to do whatever it takes until you trust me to know what I'm doing.

[ Spike pauses at that, giving Jack a look as if to say yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. He comes from a place of such deep self-loathing that the only thing that could come even close to curing it was dying and turning all that outward into aggression. He doesn't so much hate himself as revels in the fact that he's worth hating — if you can't be loved, and all that. That's also why Dru had such an easy time turning him. It was infinitely better than the alternative. ]

Oh you silly thing, you've really gone and done it now. What's the use of wasting time?

[ Don't fix him. Fuck him if you have to but don't fucking fix him. ]

[He gazes at Spike a moment long, and then drops it, shaking his head with a smile.]

All right then, I'll let it go. [For now, at least. He turns to pick up his whiskey and takes a long drink.]

You want to continue the game, or just the pool?

No fun, my babe no fun.

[ Spike shrugs in response, taking another long swig of whiskey – he's pretty much done with both of these activities. Not saying he wants to end the night, though. ]

I don't mind the things that you say.

[ He rolls his eyes again because what else can he really do. Goddamnit Jack. Don't make him question getting into this situation with you. He reaches for the napkin again, folding it inside out to get a fresh patch to write on.

Couldn't find a song lyric that contained that one? I'm disappointed in you!

[ Oh Jack, do you really want to do that? Spike's so bad at backing down from a challenge, especially if it's one that allows him to change the topic to something less emotional. He scoffs, half-turning away as if he's about to give up on the whole situation, only to turn back with speed and force, grabbing Jack by the shirt in an effort to knock him off balance and press him back over the pool table.

He slips into gameface while he's at it, as added flavour. Don't think he's forgotten the effect that has. ]

How many ways to get what you want?

Yeah? And what do you want, Spike?

[Breathless with the sudden slam of arousal, on top of the sheer physical stress of being bent backwards over the table, but he's not totally lost his composure, blue eyes still twinkling up at him. His hands clutch at leather-clad elbows but it's only for stability, not to try and push back. He's right where he wants to be. Where he's wanted to be for a very long time.]

[ What does he want? That's a question that's been asked way too much in the last few months. Too much talk, too much thinking, not enough pure, unhindered action and with the agreement set in place there's literally no risk to this. No one's going to get hurt. The timing couldn't be better. ]

I know how to get it.

[ And with that he brings them together in a bruising, clashing kiss, leaving fangs and ridges out in the open for the time being. Subconsciously this is a matter of setting the two experiences apart for as long as he can. ]

[It's ironic that on one of the occasions when he actually set out to try and talk to Spike without aiming for anything like this is when it happens, but perhaps that's just their relationship all over.

And really, it's quite a relief not to have to work at understanding everything Spike's saying any more. Jack may not be a poet, but he is intimately familiar with the language of kissing, and he gets a good deal of why the fangs are out, that it's not just about exciting him (which is definitely working) and is also about making this different from being with Ianto.

And he is completely fine with that. It makes it completely different from him being with Ianto too, and that, for him, is what polyamory is all about. He meets the kiss with equal fervour, his hands coming up to to Spike's shoulders and head, pulling him in just as enthusiastically as he's being pulled in. Pushing in, moaning and panting, crying out as his lip tears against a fang and blood starts to seep out into his mouth.]

[ It's the times when you don't want the cat to sit in your lap that she'll make herself comfortable, or something to that effect. It does help that Jack isn't pushing for it, that he gets to take him by surprise at least a little bit. Spike is shorter and lighter and this is unknown territory to him to some degree still, getting the upper hand in any sort of way helps. Not to mention, dangling this in front of Jack gives him more of a kick than he anticipated. It feels good to withhold. It feels good to be desired.

The taste of blood makes him growl deep in his throat, feral yellow eyes narrow and teetering on the edge of control. He's got it, Spike has an iron will when he needs to but damn if it doesn't feel good to let go a little bit, even with the soul. It's play, not murder. Jack can take it. Licking at Jack's busted lip, he coaxes him further back to lie against the pool table rather than balance awkwardly on the edge. ]

[He's not actually trying to make Spike lose control this time. He's fine with not getting bitten - hell, he's fine with not getting fucked! He's finally moved past that (perhaps with the help of a certain very hot shared dream) until he's actually more vested in connecting with Spike than getting off with him.

And connecting is definitely what it feels like they're doing. That growl makes his heart race, and his tongue tangles eagerly with Spike's as he follows Spike's encouragement to wriggle properly up onto the table, gasping in relief as he lies back, sending pool balls skittering away down the table as he does so. He hopes Spike wasn't actually planning on finishing the game!]

[ Maybe he is planning on finishing the game, he just changed the rules of it. This is more fun in any case, especially with all the heat and breath and scent coming off Jack like a punch to the gut. He's always been mesmerized by that, the scent especially, wrecking havoc on his heightened senses and leaving him hopelessly enthralled. He situates himself on top of Jack, straddling a thigh in some subconscious effort to keep this on equal playing grounds. Not taking, not being taken — not yet.

Pulling back a little, he wrestles out of his coat, freeing himself for whatever this will turn out to be. ]

[Jack would certainly agree with him that this is more fun. More familiar and a lot easier. He groans as Spike moves, feeling that knee come down between his legs and parting them a little more to give him space, whining a bit when Spike takes the time to get out of his coat instead of getting down on top of him and carrying on with the kissing.]

You're a tease, you know that? [Growled out as he reaches for Spike, trying to pull him down on top of him.]

[ If he wasn't restricted to lyrics alone he'd have a lot to say right now, about how Jack is so impatient and if he really wants to see a tease they could stop this right now, no problem. Luckily for both of them, perhaps, there's no time for that. Instead Spike merely grins and goes down with the pull. He'll slide out of game face sooner or later, not wanting the demon to have too much of a field day, but this is fine for now. He resumes the kiss with great lust, both regular and blood, leg nesting in between Jack's to put some much needed pressure against his crotch. ]

[Yeah, he's not above using Spike's temporary speech problem to his advantage today. Though right now, he's really not interested in talking. They've done a lot of talking and this, here, right now, feels like they're communicating so much more clearly.

His current way of communicating is to arch breathlessly against that knee Spike brings up between his legs, groaning at the pressure that brings him, and bite into the kiss, tasting blood for the first time that's not his own.]

[info]chipswiththat

[ They really should focus more on physical communication. As poetic as he can be, this is when he's at his clearest, during a fight or a fuck and with Jack he's never quite sure which is which. That's the part that works with them, the one thing that's easy to get swept up in and that's exactly what he does right now, gets lost in the heat and blood and pulsating life that is Jack Harkness.

There's only one problem, the very reason why he's tried to keep himself on such a short leash lately and between the bites and the blood he can feel the demon burn and rage in his chest, overwhelmingly so. He doesn't trust himself, can feel control slip through his fingers and so he pulls back where he wants to dig in, eyes screwed shut as he tries to reel it back in. Fuck. ]

[Well, this whole thing started with physical communication - way, way back on their first in-person, mistletoe bot-enhanced encounter - and if Jack had had his way it would probably have remained their main method of communication! Though it's almost certainly a good thing that Spike didn't go along with that. They did need a fair bit of actual talking, after all, to get to where they are now.

And where they are now is fantastic, all the more so for being relatively unexpected. So much so that it's a moment before he realises Spike has frozen in place, his eyes squeezed shut and a look of fierce concentration on his demon-featured face.

He sinks back gently onto the table and peers up at Spike, the hand that had been wrapped around his head relaxing to just stroke a bit, soothingly.]</small>

Hey. Everything all right?
