{ 393 } video ♦ action
[The video is short and to the point, but he thought he would alert anyone who might want to know.]

I've recently taken over the maintenance work of the stables. If anyone ever needs something in those regards, just let me know. My name is Zero.

[He pauses before deciding to add in something else- ]

You may have already seen him on the network today, but my son is here. His name is Ren, and looks very similar to me- [ah. maybe he should also mention the more elusive family member who's much less sociable and polite] -as well as Ichiru, my twin who's also here. Although it's fairly easy to tell us apart.

shopping;
[As it is, the Kiryuu-Kuran residence - now with its fifth member - consumes a rather lot of food. Meaning, even though Zero stops by both the convenience store and Bull's Eye often enough, there's always a reason to go. Maybe even more so when they have Mika and Yuu over. He doesn't mind it, though; cooking for others is something he's come to like. He looks forward to doing so with both Ai and Ren.

. . .and speaking of the two, they're both with Yuuki at the moment. Of course he would've liked to join them, but he'll take on the task of preparing for the big dinner they'll be having tonight, as suggested by his son.

Feel free to find him among any of the aisles, his cart steadily filling up.]

shooting range;
[It's a bit after he dropped the groceries off at the apartment. No matter how frequent he comes here, he'll never like how the "ammunition" are made of foam, of all things. Granted, he's adapted fairly well to it. So much so that he hits the target more often than not. . . a major difference compared to how flawless he is with real bullets (or arrows, at any given time). Every now and again the trajectory ends up veering off. It's nothing new, but still irksome.

Maybe he could try and add more weight to them somehow. There has to be some kind of way, while still leaving them as harmless as they already are. Regardless, he'll continue.]

ice rink;
[Zero has only more recently come to the rink; within maybe the past week. For whatever the reason he hadn't thought much about it. Opposed to the other sports he engages in, this is more relaxing. He glides around easily. It's been years since he last was able to, yet it seems he's a regular at it, effortless.]

Yuuki;
[At some point he got a call from Yuuki, asking what he was up to. Seemingly Ai had abducted Ren for the rest of the afternoon. Zero continues to skate until she shows up. She's more than welcome to put a pair on to come join him, but it's up to her.]

So they ran off without you, huh?

[Teasing.]

[Haruka wouldn’t believe for a moment there was nothing beneath that calm surface, resentment, well-deserved, for the wrongs committed to him. He’s an overprotective father, who looks at most things with a reserved stance, and while he’s concerned, it’s what he’s seen and what he can’t see whenever he watches them, that has convinced him to, at the very least, not protest Zero’s presence among his family. They adore him, besides, and just as much as he wants them safe, he wants them happy, too.

So when it comes to his children, his grandchildren, no matter who sired them, he won’t dance around an issue that is becoming harder and harder to ignore. He’s heard them both, how they feel, and though there aren’t any definitions, he knows they mean so much more to each other than he ever anticipated.

‘Far into the future’ could mean a lot of things, and that it’s Zero who fathers Yuuki’s second child leaves him to wonder just why. Kaname, who never liked to leave Yuuki’s side. Yuuki, who clung to her brother so tightly, they seemed inseparable. What...]

What has happened to Kaname in that future? Where is my son?

[His tone, at least, isn’t accusatory. Yuuki told him that Kaname and Zero don’t get along, and he assumes it’s because Kaname’s jealous that Yuuki would look at anyone else and call them ‘important’, but that doesn’t mean it’s fair or appropriate to assume when he can just get the answers he wants by asking.]

[Even if he was incriminating Zero would have understood. Yet, more so, he's frustrated with Yuuki. Despite being able to acknowledge where she's coming from. To a degree.

(She really hasn't told you anything at all, has she), he's tempted to say; so much so that he almost needs to bite his tongue to keep from doing so. Presently it would only bring about more questions. Ones that don't necessarily involve Kaname.

As for that stated future. . . it's so very soon compared to what he can only imagine Haruka is assuming.]

They were going to walk along the same path together. [Even he had truly believed this.]

But there came a point where he had decided upon something. He had set out to kill every pureblood that he could. [Zero doesn't need to explicitly state that it never included Yuuki.] In terms of the hunters. . . there was a small group of us who had no issue with him doing this.

[That doesn't completely answer the question. However, before continuing, he does have to ask- ]

I'm not sure if I even need to ask you, but. . . are you familiar with the origins of the metal with which all hunters' weapons are forged from?

[It’s his first instinct, as Kaname’s father, to deny the possibility of such a thing. Kaname is a kind child. He’s serious, sometimes distant, but he’s kind and he cares for Yuuki above all. His precious son would not go against the teachings of his parents to start a war. He would not break Yuuki’s heart like that.

Even though the life Kaname led before Haruka took him in his arms that day was not one he knew well at all, Haruka believed that person was a good soul.

It isn’t surprising to hear there would be hunters all for that plan. Why would it, when he felt that very sentiment in their stares whenever they would exist in the same room? That is a story as old as time, just as the answer to the final question is.]

I am.

[It’s a history lesson from long ago, one he has mixed feelings about.]

The Lady Ancestor sacrificed herself to grant you the power and tools to overcome the pureblood vampires.

What does that have to do with Kaname?

[He can piece together the weapons in such a plan, if he were to entertain the idea, but the source of the hunters’ power…

Haruka tenses, then.]

Yuuki said that the Hunter’s Association was destroyed and most of your weapons were lost.

[The fact that he's aware of it means Zero won't have to reply with a foreword to explain the entire story behind it. Thankfully so. However that doesn't mean the response to follow will be a relaxed one.]

He had decided on abiding by what the Ancestress had wished for. Killing them all wasn't originally his idea.

[But that isn't really the answer.]

It was. And the parent metal went awry during that time; our weapons, including both Artemis and Bloody Rose, which had been the very first to be produced, were reabsorbed.

But Kaname, he. . . Before it would be lost forever, he succeeded in that woman's actions, and gave his heart to the furnace. Regardless, he had planned to take her place even before things fell apart. Before his body could waste away, as hers had, Aidou encased him in a tomb of ice.

[He lets out a breath. It doesn't matter how Haruka chooses to react; Zero is expecting anything.]

The last thing I remember before waking here was about a month after those events.

I know you may not want to trust me, nor do I feel you'll believe me. However, both your daughter and granddaughter will tell you the same thing.

[Haruka came to Zero hoping to clear up something, anything, about the future he has yet to see. The questions that he originally thought would hurt Yuuki, things she was not ready to tell him, the things she wasn’t sure how to tell him, that morning. So far, he only has more questions, a disbelief for what’s been said. That is not the boy he remembers. The boy he remembers would do whatever it took to keep Yuuki happy and safe, would show her the world she had not been able to see.

Zero isn’t foolish enough to lie, though, he doesn’t think. It’s easy enough to confirm his story, if he truly wished to go to such lengths, and in the end, would he risk the ire of Yuuki’s father to convince him of the alleged path Kaname has taken? Lying or not, it’s not any easier to accept. In itself, making sure the continuance of the furnace isn’t a terrible thing. It’s… necessary, even if he doesn’t care for most hunters or their weapons in general. It’s the pureblood hunt that unnerves him. Kaname wouldn’t…

What does he know about his children? Yuuki has grown, she’s stronger and taller and though she may be just as sweet and kind, she has a world of experiences and memories Haruka doesn’t share with her, has done things and met people he’d never imagine. Kaname, too, is probably miles away. He loves them both, regardless, but he can’t admit that he knows what’s gone on in the time he hasn’t been there.

It’s another bitter reminder that he’s utterly alone and the only ones who can tell him, reassure him, aren’t here.]

I didn’t want to ask her, but I don’t think I have much choice. That’s not the Kaname I remember.

[Not the one he would have raised.]

But since you’re telling me this, anyway, what reason would he have had to set himself on that mission? Why would he have sacrificed himself, instead of someone else taking his place?

[Why is it always the youth in these stories he hears taking care of things?]

[Zero can only imagine all of it. Albeit not to a great degree. Imagine, but not at all relate. There's no what he could.]

It's not the Kaname she would have ever expected, either. But this is why she was holding back, as you now realize.

[Although there are so many more things which he isn't going to - can't, won't - tell Haruka. Those things which only Yuuki can bring to the surface. He doesn't know he's long dead. He doesn't know that Juri gave her life for Yuuki to live in the sun and free of any burdens.]

I don't know every last detail. But he was tired. He set out on that path, and wouldn't let anyone stop him. Not even Yuuki, though she desperately tried.

[Although it reached a point where the hunters accepted it— they even aided him by preparing the furnace.]

He even attempted to have Isaya Shouto turn her into a human [again] so that she wouldn't have any memories of him.

[Something within Zero tenses the more he speaks on this matter.]

That man. . . Everything that went wrong in my life was because of him. All of it.

[It's only because it led him to Yuuki does Zero feel he wouldn't change things if he could do it all over again.]

But I know that's not the Kaname you remember, either.
