392 - Kite Mingle

[If you're outside today it will be hard to miss all the whimsical, high-flying kites. Might as well get some of your own or spend some time getting them out of trees.]

[The Doctor is flying a simple royal blue box kite, enjoying the breeze and not having to think about anything serious at the moment when he noticed a large shark crossing the sky. Glancing backwards, he's trying to trace where it might be coming from, but he couldn't place it right away.

Moving a little further away, he hopes maybe he'll be left unharmed as the shark seemed to be living up to its terrorizing stereotype within the sky.]

[No such luck. This is a shark on a mission. A mission of death. And if that mission calls for a suicide course straight for the nearest, brightest, bluest kite then so be it. Admittedly collisions aren't too dramatic or explosive when they involve kites but hey, a cyborg can dream.]

[ooc: Really sorry about the delay!]

[...Well... He saw that coming. It still made him have a frown on his face as he desperately tried to pull his precious kite away from the battle. No such luck, apparently.]

Oi!

[He shouts this out as if it'd make the culprit reveal him/herself, though the Doctor is quick to trace where the string lead to.]

((No worries! I had a crazy week myself!))

[It won't be hard to spot the cyborg responsible for the attack. He's not exactly trying to hide and the giggling sort of gives him away, too. The kites are hopelessly tangled up together now and a few tugs on his string ends in a spectacular crash.]

I can't imagine why they don't give us these things every day.

Hah!

[OK, upon seeing Ton being absolutely charming lightened the Doctor's mood and he offers the cyborg a smile.]

It would be nice, huh?

[The Doctor offers an introduction.]

I'm the Doctor and I believe that's your kite around mine?

Ton Phanan, resident trouble-maker. Nice to meet you. And yes it is. I'm thinking about trying to attach sharp objects or projectiles to it but so far the crashing into things plan is working out pretty well.

[He doesn't seem all that worried about the tangled kites. In fact based on the knots and snarls in other sections of the string this isn't the first time he's had this happen today.]

Nah, all that would weigh it down, unless you find...

[Wait, why was he feeding into this? The Doctor shrugs and offers a laugh.]

I can tell you've cut a few down already.

Something lightweight, I agree. Don't worry, I plan to put entirely too much thought and effort into it.

[He starts untangling the string, ready to get his shark back up in the air and attacking helpless kites once more.]

I'm thinking of painting little kite silhouettes on its wings for each kill it's made to really have it look impressive and strike fear into the hearts of all who see it.

How many have you taken down so far?

[These were kites they were talking about, but should the Doctor be afraid of what else he might be capable of doing?

The Doctor glances around them, trying to gauge how many forlorn faces there are around him.]

Probably more than I should have for such a festive activity. [He finishes with the snarls in his kite's sting and launches it again, keeping it hovering in a holding pattern for now I seats of going on the offensive.]

So, you're a doctor? Ever consider helping out at the clinic? I'll warn you, I run a very tight ship over there. [Those words are absolutely not an accurate description of the state of the clinic.]

Oh no, not a medical doctor. [The Doctor's hands are raised, offering defeat.] A Doctor of... science and the related.

Martha, Martha Jones, do you know her? She's a doctor and a brilliant one at that! She's a very good friend of mine.

I won't hold that against you; I'm only sort of a doctor anyway. What sort of science? [Fun exploding science?]

And yes. I do know Martha. She is by far the most responsible and least weird member of the clinic staff. And pretty handy in a paper airplane fight.

[Surprisingly, the Doctor's face didn't flinch at the mentioning of Martha being 'the least weird'. It was certainly an odd comment to make.]

Oh, physics, astrology, chemistry, some botany... A little bit of everything, really. [And certainly the fun exploding science, but he tried to keep that to a minimum.]

How are you 'sort of' a doctor?

[Most responsible might have been a better description.] Sounds like you keep yourself busy.

[The question gets a shrug from him.] Career change. I'm a starfighter pilot back home, although admittedly I am our squadron's medical officer so I do occasionally get to cut people open or weld them shut as needed.

Oh just a little bit. You're always in need of a sense of adventure!

Brilliant! I have a ship too, called the TARDIS! I've been looking for her since arriving here. [Well, he had. But there's a good chance it's not here.]

How long have you been stuck here?

Really? What class of ship? And why the silly name? [And also potentially yay someone else from outer space from a planet that is not Earth. Sort of a rarity here.]

About a hundred and fifty days. I take it you're a newer arrival?

Time and Relative Dimension in Space, specifically TT Type 40, Mark 3! [It was outdated, but the Doctor wasn't complaining about that.]

Relatively, yes. Haven't been here very long, only a couple weeks, really. Tell me, have you figured out how to leave at all?

I'm pretty sure you're making that up. [Although at this point he'll believe just about anything.]

Yes and no. There was a glitch or something awhile ago. It's when we all figured out this was all a virtual simulation in our heads. Some of us woke up in real life. They have our real bodies stored in these pods. [A slightly chagrined pause.] Mine may or may not have been comically stuck closed for awhile.

Nnnnope!

Any chance we're stored somewhere in here? Or completely offsite? [Did anyone get that far in their discovery of the news?]

I don't think so. They had us back in our real bodies a few weeks ago for a beach trip when the systems here started failing. It looked different than the place with the pods so I think they're able to physically move us around pretty easily. I could be wrong though. I do enjoy wild and crazy speculation.

[There's an amused grin.]

I have a fondness for it as well.

[This was really interesting. It's leading the Doctor to think of many possibilities.]

Well I suppose I'll have to keep searching for answers.
