Day 375 | Action | Closed
[Closed to Spike]

[Funny how he wakes up feelings tired after so much sleep but maybe all the dreams have left him exhausted. He remembers some of them, some are more fuzzy, just impressions of rapidly fading feelings and images. He does remember the one with Spike though, and for awhile he's happy just to lay here curled up together, watching him sleep until he wakes up.]

[Closes to Jack]

[A little while later and he makes his way back upstairs to their flat, feeling a little guilty even if it wasn't his fault he stayed away longer than he planned to. And there's the fact that even though the scratches on his back and bruise on his leg are hidden under his jeans and t-shirt there's no disguising the raw red marks on his wrists from the handcuffs. There's not much point in hoping Jack won't remark on those so he just decides to hope for the best as he lets himself in.]

"Have you ever even been bowling?" All he can picture is Jack rolling a ball in that dramatic coat of his and he grins a little at the mental picture. Also at the way he seems to be taking Kanji and Nico and half the other kids here under his wing. It's cute, and he wonders how much of it has to do with his past, with all the children he must have had over the years and how few of them would have been any part of his life.

As for Kitty calling is probably a good idea. "I'll get in touch with her as well, make sure she doesn't think I'm upset about it or something like that. I'm assuming she's the only sex dream you had, model of restraint that you are."

"Of course I have! Actually, didn't I take you bowling that day I took you out for a day-long date, a while back?" He took the coat off, though. It really would get in the way.

As for the kids here, he's always been all about helping people. It's just that the ways of doing that tend to be a little smaller and less dramatic than the almost daily Earth-saving that used to go on back in Cardiff.

He gives Ianto a grateful look for being so cool about the whole Kitty thing (even if he would be rather hypocritrical if he did get upset, considering the whole Spike thing) and then gives him a rather limpid look. "Oh, no, there were more. Martha, for one. Which was very weird, considering the current state of our relationship!"

"You did, didnt you? I must have forgotten about it in the midst of the fantastic sex." That day will always be a mixed bag of emotions for him because on the one hand it's one of the best days he and Jack have ever spent together, but on the other he knows what caused it, that they were only there because of the emotional mess he was after finding out he was going to die. It seems so much longer ago than a few months, and that fear seems so unimportant in the face of everything that happened after it.

"That does sound uncomfortable. Do you think it will do anything to improve her attitude towards the situation?" Frankly he doesn't think she'll come around any time soon, which makes him feel sad and stubborn all at once.

Jack laughs at the sex comment, even though he too knows it's not the only thing Ianto remembers about that day. He knows it always has to remind of what came before, what prompted it.

The Martha thing, though... "It was great at the time!" he admits, with a wry little shrug. "But I'm kind of worried she'll hate the idea of it now we're back in the 'real' world and feel she's been taken advantage of or something. I think it may hurt things rather than improve them."

"I think I had a dream with her," He struggles to remember, since while some dreams remain clear others as starting to fade and become more fuzzy. He has an image of Martha smiling in the Hub but the rest is becoming harder to hold onto. "I think we just talked, but I don't remember is being about here." So neither of them will have done much to help the situation.

"I think the only other dreams I had were one with Sam, but it was similar, just taking. And one with Spike." Unsurprising.

"I had another one with her too, I think," he says, frowning slightly. "We were at the Blessing - she killed me to save the world - no, that was Chuck, or... no. Chuck didn't kill me, but she was there as well, I think." In general, he seems to be holding onto his memories of his dreams better than Ianto, perhaps as a result of his psychic training, or simply his fifty-first century physique, but even so some are starting to go a little fuzzy around the edges.

One, though, is still crystal clear in his mind. His lips twitch as Ianto finally brings up the subject of Spike, which he had of course somewhat deliberately been leaving as long as he could to see if Ianto would cave first. "You had a dream with Spike?" he asks, eyebrows arching innocently. "How jealous should I be?"

It's tempting to tease but he's the one who just came home from a night in another man's bed. He doesn't think he should push it. "If you're jealous of talking and lots of handholding then you should be. He saw the Hub, which I hope was a good thing. Might give him a better idea of how Torchwood operates." He had almost seemed relieved to resize they're not the squeaky clean heroes he seems convinced of.

"Otherwise there's not much worth reporting. I saw a bit of Sunnydale but mostly we just taked a lot." And kissed. There was a lot of kissing, but that's pretty standard for them lately.

He might, perhaps, be a tiny bit jealous of talking, except they're talking now and it seems to be going pretty well so, okay, not jealous. Not really jealous of kissing either, which he's taking for granted even though Ianto didn't actually say that bit out loud. He knows how new relationships go, and anyway, he did some kissing with Spike too.

"All right, I don't think I'll be too jealous of that," he grins. "Anyway, I saw a bit of Sunnydale too."

They are indeed talking. In fact he's felt closer to Jack these past few days than he has in a long time. It's as if this whole thing with Spike somehow drove them closer together rather than pulling them apart like he'd been afraid of. He's spent a lot of time feeling guilty over his feelings for Spike, over the kisses and closeness and now that he doesn't have to hide that anymore it's like he can stop worrying so much about it all and they can go back to the way things were before.

"Did you now?" Beyond smug. He's sworn to secrecy about Spike's dream memory but that doesn't mean he can't be glad they both remember. Also he got no details for him so hopefully Jack will be more willing to share.

Nothing like a bit of healthy competition to make you realise what you've got, and what you've got to lose, and work to keep it! Jack feels like he's done more talking (real talking, soul-searching type talking) to all sorts of people the last few days than he has done in years, but it definitely seems to be worth it.

"Just a little bit of it, yeah," he shrugs, not really expecting Spike to have told Ianto much but not bothered about sharing it himself, even if he is sadistically enjoying stringing it out. "Spike's lair he had with Drusilla." He smirks a bit. "I only really saw the bedroom, though."

Healthy competition is a good way of putting it. After this dream maybe he'll find himself having to compete a bit, too. Right now he's of the opinion that's a good thing

He always loves that smirking expression of Jack's because it invariably means trouble or sex or both. "I assume this was just an innocent look around?"

Ianto might well find himself with some competition now things have finally got going between Jack and Spike, but to Jack's mind, Ianto's still the one he's going to be coming home to and that's what matters.

His smirk widens into a truly lascivious grin. "Well, I'm not sure what you'd call innocent but let's put it this way: it was a very nice bed. Big. Comfortable. Very accommodating."

That is what matters and it feels good to lean closer to him so their shoulders bump as he sips from his mug of coffee, enjoying the innocent contact. They've got a pretty damn good thing going right now

"And what did you do in said bed?" Because he wasn't able to get anything out of Spike about it and frankly if he's going to imagine things he'd like a few specifics.

Jack chuckles, thoroughly enjoying himself. If they can just manage to work this right, sparking the two of them off against each other is going to be so much fun.

"He didn't tell you?" he asks, his eyes twinkling, knowing full well Spike didn't because a) he's Spike and b) if he had, Ianto wouldn't be asking.

It is fun, and it highlights how good this thing has the potential to be once everyone is fully involved. He gives an innocent look at the question. "No idea. You'll have to ask him."

It's as good as a yes, but it's also enough to let Jack know he's at least trying to take his promise of secrecy seriously.

"...Riiight," he drawls, dragging it out deliberately. "He's that embarrassed about it, he can't stand to talk about it?"

Which he would be worried about, except it's Spike, so unwillingness to talk about it seems completely expected.

He grins, and relents. "There was some toppling onto the bed, and then there was some heavy making out, and then some equally heavy frotting and a couple of rather nice orgasms."

He looks smug, in the way that only Jack Harkness can. He's been waiting for this for a long time.

"Like I said, you'll have to ask him." Embarrassed might not be the word for it. Personally Ianto thinks nervous might be a better description for how Spike might be feeling. He doesn't think Jack always realizes how overwhelming he can be.

He makes an intrigued, pleased noise at Jack's description. It sounds a bit like their first time together after getting the blue bands. It's reassuring in a way to know that Spike likes to take things slow no matter who he's with. "And? What happens now between you two?"

Jack has no idea how overwhelming he can be - and he certainly wouldn't expect it to be a problem in the case of Spike, who gives off a pretty strong persona of his own. He hasn't really got through to the fact that the person underneath the tough exterior is a very different man. He's starting to get there, but he's nowhere near as far as Ianto is, yet.

He smirks a bit at Ianto's reaction, pleased that Ianto apparently approves. "Heaven knows," he laughs, spreading his hands. "This is one of the most complicated relationships I've ever been in!"

Frankly Ianto thinks it will be awhile before Spike or Jack properly get to know each other. They both care so much about their images, admittedly in different ways, and they never seem to be able to let go of that around each other. This is a start, but not much more and it's not something he thinks would be wise to try and involve himself in too much.

"Are you still happy with things?" He can't help but asking because they are complicated and he still feels like he forced Jack's hand where this is concerned. Up until now it's been very much about the fact that he wants Spike and until the two of them get things settled he's still going to feel that way, still have this nagging sense of unfairness that he gets to enjoy them both but they both have to make due with a compromise.

Jack grins round at him, eyebrows going up. "I'm a hell of a lot happier than I was!" he declares, feeling that that ought to be pretty obvious. "Just having finally got somewhere with him after all this time feels pretty damn amazing, even if it was in a dream. It feels like we've finally broken the ice now, you know? I know we've still got a long way to go, but - god, Ianto, there's so much potential there. So much for all of us!"

"Hurry up and seduce him, then, so we can explore that potential." He quips back, as excited as Jack is even if he doesn't show it in quite the same way. Of course he's given plenty of thought to the things they can do when they get to that point. Given how many dreams he's had about it he's surprised it didn't come into play last night.

Slightly more seriously though, he adds, "You'd tell me, wouldn't you? If I'm not here enough or I don't make you feel like a priority." It's more or less the same thing he said to Spike half an hour ago but Jack deserves it, too. "I don't want you to feel like I'm chasing off after this thing with him without any consideration for you."

"I'm doing my best!" he protests lightheartedly. "I just don't think my usual brand of charm is what's needed here. It seems like what Spike and I need is a good helping of honesty and being ourselves and neither of us is very good at that!"

He reaches out to lay a hand over Ianto's where it lies on the counter. "And... well. No, I probably wouldn't tell you if you weren't here enough because, again - not that good at open and honest." He gives Ianto a wry smile. "I was starting to feel a little left out, but a lot of that is just to do with the fact that until now you've generally been around, because you didn't have anywhere else to be. I guess I've actually got used to us being a couple. So of course it's an adjustment, but it's one I'm happy to make, okay?"

"I think honesty might do the trick. He's not a big fan of the hero thing." Even if that is one of Ianto's favorite things about Jack. It's funny, seeing how alike they are in some ways and how utterly different they are in others.

He looks down at their hands and smiles. "I'll try and be here more. It has been a chaotic week, hasn't it?" He feels like he and Jack have done more real taking and seen more of each other in it than the have in a long time, but there has been some distance, too. "And I still want to be a couple, if that makes sense. I like what we have, even if it's going to be different now."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Oh goodness knows he's been clear enough about that!" he chuckles. It's probably the one area where they really might fall out, and since it's not an area either of them is likely to compromise their ideals on he doesn't see any way round it either. So he's mostly just trying not to worry about that problem until it actually crops up.

Jack feels like he's done more real talking in the last week than he's done in his life, although it's probably actually only since the last time he was opening up a relationship like this to a third person. That was a good while ago, though - it's mostly been just casual relationships on the side, mostly just about the sex - so it's fair that it feels like a long, long time.

He turns to face Ianto, because he knows how important this is. "Thank you," he says straightly. "I like what we have too. However skeptical I might have been at the start, it's worked for us, and I don't want to lose it. And yeah, it's going to be different, but different doesn't have to be bad. You don't have to try and be here more. I think we've got the balance about right so far." He grins drolly, clasping his other hand over both of their joined ones. "I think it's more that I need to remind myself how to let go again."

"It has worked, hasn't it?" Who knew removing the stress of ever present alien invasions and end of the world crisises could actually be good for a relationship? If they'd never come here he doubts they would have been able to get to where they are now, even if their time hadn't been cut short.

"Team effort, then." He gives Jack's hand a squeeze, smiling. When the outcome is this good they really do have every incentive to make it succeed.
