Day 375 | Action | Closed
[Closed to Spike]

[Funny how he wakes up feelings tired after so much sleep but maybe all the dreams have left him exhausted. He remembers some of them, some are more fuzzy, just impressions of rapidly fading feelings and images. He does remember the one with Spike though, and for awhile he's happy just to lay here curled up together, watching him sleep until he wakes up.]

[Closes to Jack]

[A little while later and he makes his way back upstairs to their flat, feeling a little guilty even if it wasn't his fault he stayed away longer than he planned to. And there's the fact that even though the scratches on his back and bruise on his leg are hidden under his jeans and t-shirt there's no disguising the raw red marks on his wrists from the handcuffs. There's not much point in hoping Jack won't remark on those so he just decides to hope for the best as he lets himself in.]

Jack has no idea how overwhelming he can be - and he certainly wouldn't expect it to be a problem in the case of Spike, who gives off a pretty strong persona of his own. He hasn't really got through to the fact that the person underneath the tough exterior is a very different man. He's starting to get there, but he's nowhere near as far as Ianto is, yet.

He smirks a bit at Ianto's reaction, pleased that Ianto apparently approves. "Heaven knows," he laughs, spreading his hands. "This is one of the most complicated relationships I've ever been in!"

Frankly Ianto thinks it will be awhile before Spike or Jack properly get to know each other. They both care so much about their images, admittedly in different ways, and they never seem to be able to let go of that around each other. This is a start, but not much more and it's not something he thinks would be wise to try and involve himself in too much.

"Are you still happy with things?" He can't help but asking because they are complicated and he still feels like he forced Jack's hand where this is concerned. Up until now it's been very much about the fact that he wants Spike and until the two of them get things settled he's still going to feel that way, still have this nagging sense of unfairness that he gets to enjoy them both but they both have to make due with a compromise.

Jack grins round at him, eyebrows going up. "I'm a hell of a lot happier than I was!" he declares, feeling that that ought to be pretty obvious. "Just having finally got somewhere with him after all this time feels pretty damn amazing, even if it was in a dream. It feels like we've finally broken the ice now, you know? I know we've still got a long way to go, but - god, Ianto, there's so much potential there. So much for all of us!"

"Hurry up and seduce him, then, so we can explore that potential." He quips back, as excited as Jack is even if he doesn't show it in quite the same way. Of course he's given plenty of thought to the things they can do when they get to that point. Given how many dreams he's had about it he's surprised it didn't come into play last night.

Slightly more seriously though, he adds, "You'd tell me, wouldn't you? If I'm not here enough or I don't make you feel like a priority." It's more or less the same thing he said to Spike half an hour ago but Jack deserves it, too. "I don't want you to feel like I'm chasing off after this thing with him without any consideration for you."

"I'm doing my best!" he protests lightheartedly. "I just don't think my usual brand of charm is what's needed here. It seems like what Spike and I need is a good helping of honesty and being ourselves and neither of us is very good at that!"

He reaches out to lay a hand over Ianto's where it lies on the counter. "And... well. No, I probably wouldn't tell you if you weren't here enough because, again - not that good at open and honest." He gives Ianto a wry smile. "I was starting to feel a little left out, but a lot of that is just to do with the fact that until now you've generally been around, because you didn't have anywhere else to be. I guess I've actually got used to us being a couple. So of course it's an adjustment, but it's one I'm happy to make, okay?"

"I think honesty might do the trick. He's not a big fan of the hero thing." Even if that is one of Ianto's favorite things about Jack. It's funny, seeing how alike they are in some ways and how utterly different they are in others.

He looks down at their hands and smiles. "I'll try and be here more. It has been a chaotic week, hasn't it?" He feels like he and Jack have done more real taking and seen more of each other in it than the have in a long time, but there has been some distance, too. "And I still want to be a couple, if that makes sense. I like what we have, even if it's going to be different now."

"Oh goodness knows he's been clear enough about that!" he chuckles. It's probably the one area where they really might fall out, and since it's not an area either of them is likely to compromise their ideals on he doesn't see any way round it either. So he's mostly just trying not to worry about that problem until it actually crops up.

Jack feels like he's done more real talking in the last week than he's done in his life, although it's probably actually only since the last time he was opening up a relationship like this to a third person. That was a good while ago, though - it's mostly been just casual relationships on the side, mostly just about the sex - so it's fair that it feels like a long, long time.

He turns to face Ianto, because he knows how important this is. "Thank you," he says straightly. "I like what we have too. However skeptical I might have been at the start, it's worked for us, and I don't want to lose it. And yeah, it's going to be different, but different doesn't have to be bad. You don't have to try and be here more. I think we've got the balance about right so far." He grins drolly, clasping his other hand over both of their joined ones. "I think it's more that I need to remind myself how to let go again."

"It has worked, hasn't it?" Who knew removing the stress of ever present alien invasions and end of the world crisises could actually be good for a relationship? If they'd never come here he doubts they would have been able to get to where they are now, even if their time hadn't been cut short.

"Team effort, then." He gives Jack's hand a squeeze, smiling. When the outcome is this good they really do have every incentive to make it succeed.

"Well, team effort is pretty much what this is all about, isn't it? Everyone willing to give a bit, meet halfway and all that. And communicate, which I think we're all pretty bad at so that's going to take some work."

He leans against the counter and, in an attempt to continue said communication, rather than skirting around anything that might potentially be a sensitive topic like they usually do, he asks, "What did you do in your dream with him? Where did he take you?"

He likes the directness. They don't always talk when they need to, they never have. Having someone to talk to was the reason he became so close to Spike in the first place. It might not be a bad thing to change.

"The Bronze, which is a club I felt much too old for, and a graveyard. Plus the Hib, of course. Like I said, we really did just talk." Which was nice. Like he said, it's what they do.

Jack hasn't quite got as far as realising that this is the very thing Ianto meant when he said he could talk to Spike, but he knows he's enjoying it and maybe that's enough to get them there?

He chuckles, equally happy to hear about the two of them 'just talking' as to hear the juicy details of kinky handcuff sex. Well, almost.

"If you felt too old for this club, what the hell was Spike doing there?" he asks ironically.

"Apparently he used to hunt people there," Very dryly and said with humor even if it is true. Still, he's never pretended not to know about his past, and even experienced it a bit when he was attacked all that time ago. Now he just appreciates being trusted with information like this. "Considering the dream started out with him in the cells at the Hub I'd say we were on roughly equal footing, morality-wise."

"Right." Equally dry, because it's not like Spike's past is something they can just ignore, but then they've all done questionable things so it's nothing something he wants to make a big thing about either.

His eyebrows go up at the last part though. "He was in the cells? Ouch!"

They've both done things they aren't proud of, which is probably the only reason they can make this thing with Spike work. And after seeing the Hub he thinks the vampire has a better understanding of what Torchwood actually is. They do the right thing there and keep people safe, but they do it at any cost, which is the important part.

"He said he'd been in a place like that before, the Initiative. The ones that put that chip in his head." It feels like so long ago that the chip was even in play. Getting it removed was what started all this. "I think it gave him some perspective on Torchwood, though. He was actually relieved to hear we'd have killed him for the things he did, like he was glad to know we weren't quite as heroic as he thought we were."

Jack's quiet for a moment, letting that sink in. Then he looks up at Ianto and says, "That actually explains quite a lot. Why he's so strongly against the DF and people acting like 'heroes'. Why he was so strongly against us re-souling him."

It makes him feel bad, because he knows how things would have gone if Spike had showed up in Cardiff on a killing spree, just another monster threatening the citizens of his city.

"I'd have killed him without a second thought, back then," he agrees ruefully. "I know he's said he wishes we'd killed him here, rather than shoving the soul back into him, but it's not so simple here. I hope between us we can convince him what we've got is worth not dying!"

Ianto could have told him as much from their conversations together. He didn't need the Hub to clarify that point. He and Spike have been back and forth over the resouling process too many times already. He wishes it could have happened differently, but he's glad Spike has his soul even if the process was the wrong one.

"I think he'll always be angry we forced it on him rather than giving him the chance to regain it himself. There aren't any real right answers to it, but I'm glad he has a soul. I like him better this way." Obviously.

"Well, none of this would have been possible without it!" Also obviously. "I still don't really what else we could have done, but I do know I wasn't thinking as clearly as I might have been at the time." He was still getting over Ianto's first death, still hurting and grieving and over-protective as hell.

"I don't suppose there's much point in trying to apologise to him about it, is there? Considering we're all much happier he's still alive, or undead, or whatever?"

"If it comes up an apology might not hurt, or at least a discussion. But I don't know that it would be good for you to simply bring it up out of the blue." He genuinly has no idea how that conversation between the two of them would go. Maybe it would help start to make amends or maybe it would just reopen old wounds.

"Well, yeah, I wasn't planning on just coming out with it!" he grins, because he can't see that ever going well. "I guess I'll just leave it unless he brings it up himself."

He finishes his coffee and crosses to the sink to rinse his cup out. "Any other interesting - or useful - revelations from your dream? Or from the day before? Anything I ought to know about?"

"Is that your way of trying to find out about what we got up to the night before last?" He shoots back slyly. He doesn't mind answering questions if Jack asks directly, especially after getting details about the dream the two of them had. He's not going to make it some sort of competition or comparison between the two of them but if Jack wants details he thinks he has the right to know some of them. Some things are going to stay private, but a genera overview seems reasonable.

He chuckles. "Little bit, perhaps. Mostly just wanting to know if there's anything else you think I ought to know - but of course I'm curious, too!" He shrugs. "Of course, I'm sure I can make some assumptions simply from undressing you and discovering what other marks he's left on you for me to find..."

"Alright then, why don't you see what assumptions you can make then?" A playful expression crosses his face as he sets aside his own mug. There's the love bite on his thigh and the scratches on his back, which should be the most obvious in addition to the handcuffs but Jack can extrapolate from there.

Jack looks at him for a moment, his lips twitching, and then he bursts out grinning because this is the best part of having other lovers. Well, one of them. Possibly not as good as a threesome, but certainly a lot of fun.

"You are on!" he declares, moving in and pulling Ianto's t-shirt out of his jeans and then up and over his head. "Mmm," he muses, looking over Ianto's chest with an appraising eye, but unable to spot anything particularly untoward. The make he left on Ianto's neck is still there, though - faded now, but very definitely still there - and he traces a light finger over it, smirking. "Well, this one certainly wasn't him!"

Ianto beams. This right here is exactly why he fell for Jack in the first place, what he still loves about him. His enthusiasm and creativity and ability to make anything sexy and fun without it being forced. He wriggles out of the shirt, shivering as his finger ghosts along his neck.

"No, it want, but he certainly noticed it. I think it made him feel a little competitive." Which was a very good thing in his opinion.

"Mm-hm, why does that not surprise me?" he murmurs, smiling.

He likes that shiver, so he does it again, to see if he can get a similar response.

"Maybe I should see about making it a bit more noticeable again," he suggests, watching Ianto curiously to see if he'll like this idea. "Keep on renewing it, like a permanent reminder."
