Day 363 | Action + Video
[As of the morning of the day, there is a menace in Quatro Park. Maybe not a terrible menace but Zeno is most definitely trudging through the foliage to find each and every single one of the pieces of artwork before then proceeding to crawl all over them. Literally. Each one becomes a jungle gym to him as he attempts to use the height of the statues to see a longer distance.

Mostly he's doing it to spot another sculpture but if he happens to see someone else then that's fine too. Good luck trying to get this grinning fool down from where he's at.

Eventually Zeno does turn his attention back to the weird looking device where he heard the voice. Poking at it until it suddenly turns on.

Have a teen blinking at it in confusion.]

Hello? Is this how Zeno talks to other people? [He seems to decide that it is.] Heeeelllllloooooo other people! [Cue him waving at the device though he isn't entirely sure that anyone can even see him.

Seriously, what a cheery guy he is.]

Zeno's name is Zeno and Zeno is new to this place. Hmm, what did the voice call it again?

[He wasn't really paying that much attention to it.]

If Zeno's here then maybe Zeno's friends are here too! Everyone should keep an eye out for Miss - she's short with red hair and Mister is tall with dark hair, then there's Hakuryuu, Ryokuryuu and Seiryuu. Don't forget mom! Mom makes the best food ever!

[Those descriptions are not helpful in the least.]

[It's a voice he's forgotten. That's how long it's been. Any time he thinks of her, Zeno can't recall what she sounded like - what her touch felt like and sometimes he thinks he'll forget what she looks like.

None of those are his biggest fear though.

What he fears is that he'll forget how she made him feel. So far he hasn't but if he lives long enough (like Zeno suspects he will) he will forget more and more. More about the people he's cared about, more about the things that are important to him.

Even though some details have been lost to the years, the moment he hears her voice it all comes rushing back. It's as if the sky above has opened up and a downpour of salty sea water has cascaded over him like the rain never could. His heart pounds in his chest because while Zeno remembers the good times he spent with Kaya, remembers the happiness that had come into his life when she did - he also remembers the grief.

He remembers holding her hand as it grew colder, as it grew thinner, as it lost its softness until there was nothing left but bone. Zeno recalls calling to the heavens in a plea to a dragon that never granted his wish. There's a feeling of dirt beneath his fingernails as he dug a grave for the earthly remains of his wife and Zeno clenches his hands now as though it will shake it.

Tears threaten to overtake him but Zeno can't show her that face. He just can't. He has to smile and yet it seems an impossible task to do. So he takes a brief second though it feels like a lifetime. Only then does he turn around. It's not the smile he's shown to others in more recent times, it's a sad one that only those who know him will be able to tell is sad.

She isn't looking at him and every fiber of his being is screaming at him for her to glance his way.]

Why is Kaya here?

	[The voice again. And just as though it was next to her instead of inside her head. She looks down and... There he is. His golden hair. His pretty eyes. His heartbreaking, sad smile. It was Zeno, right there. She feels a knot in her throat and a stone sinking in her stomach. [But... Zeno's wearing the same orange clothes they had put on her. If he was a hallucination, he'd be wearing his usual robe shirt and pants, not that outfit. Did that mean...?

Did he also die...?

But she wanted him to live so much it hurt her, daily! And there he was. True that she was going to wait for him, but she hadn't expected him to appear immediately. That's wrong! Had he passed away from her disease, it should've taken him a long time to get that sick. Did time move slower on Earth or maybe...?

No, he couldn't. Oh gods, she didn't even want to think about him, rushing to come to her side like that. But no matter how he died, it was still her fault, wasn't it?]

No, why... why is Zeno in Heaven?! You should be... You couldn't...!

[And just like that, she breaks down and sobs.]

[Now that she's looking at him, Zeno almost feels... uncertain. How she came to be here is unknown and what she remembered last even more so.

Though it doesn't take long for him to figure it out when she starts speaking. Even worse are the tears that follow.

Every part of him wants to close the distance but his body is frozen in place. These aren't happy tears and of course she believes him to be dead because that what she last recalls. The last thing she probably remembers is lying in bed with her hand in his. Nearly two thousand years later and it comes to his mind so easily now.

So why can't the rest of it?

Swallowing the sudden lump in his throat, Zeno takes a step towards her hesitantly. Then it becomes easier and he's suddenly standing right in front of her.

He lays a hand upon her head gently before pulling her in so that her tears soak into his jumpsuit. Being so close he can easily breath in her scent - of flowers and herbs and clean fresh air. Everything that had once been his home.]

It isn't heaven. Kaya's not dead and neither am I.

[Since her death he's taken on several of her mannerisms - speaking of himself in the third person is one but he drops it for now. He can't be exactly the same Zeno that she remembers but he can be close.]

[After the contact with his arms, so solid they definitely cannot be a vision, it just feels real. Until then, it all had been a state of strange calm, with no pain, with easiness to breathe, so all had looked dreamlike because of that. But those were his arms, and he smells differently -more like earth and forest than before- and he acts careful and hesitant around her, but there's no mistake. She buries her head on his shoulder.

His words make no sense. She waits until the sobs have calmed down enough to articulate words.]

...B-but it has to be Heaven. Kaya just got here, just when my soul was about to... leave my body. This place is all sea and metal, and where else could it be? It's not... You know?

[Now that he's touched her, with that barrier crossed, there is nothing holding him back. A hand rubs and down her back to soothe her but Zeno just lets her cry it out. It feels surreal to hold her like this again and it was something that he never expected to happen. He can remember her words about meeting in the after life and recalled the despair he hid back then about living forever.

So it only makes sense that she believes this to be that place. That they're reunited because they're both dead but it couldn't be further from the truth. Zeno can't die and if he's not dead then neither is she.]

I'm not sure where it is but I know that it's not heaven. Kaya's not dead and neither am I.

[His hands and his warmth comfort her, but what he's saying can't be right. If she was alive, then wouldn't she feel ill right now? Instead... He's probably confused or he forgot his death. She breaks the hug and looks down, avoiding his pained eyes.]

But Zeno, look. I can breathe well. My lungs don't hurt anymore. I haven't coughed once since I got here. It's been such a long time since I've felt this well. Isn't that the proof Kaya's dead?

[She's not great at debating, not being the most articulate person, but she does her best to prove her point. Why is he so set on being alive?]

[He's so set on being alive because it's impossible for him. While Zeno is absolutely sure that Kaya came from her death, he can't say for sure that she didn't die as far as her timeline is concerned.

Even so, Zeno has no explanation as to why she's alive here now except that it can't possibly heaven.]

I don't know the answers to that but I'm sure that Kaya isn't dead and this isn't heaven. But it's a good place to be if Kaya is feeling better.

[That's not entirely true. They are in prison so not everything can be nice but it has given him a gift that he never thought he'd get.]

...We'll figure it out. Someone here has to know, right? There should be someone we can ask that can explain it to us with easier words.

Do you think it's a miracle? That the gods did something?

[She wants to be happy. Zeno's there! She's not in pain! Everything is large and clean and pretty! But... he's off. He's so immensely sad he has her worried for him.

And Kaya really wants to know if she's still sick. She's seen people around, and she doesn't want anyone to catch it and be through those coughs and that aching chest.]

We can ask around and maybe someone will know why Kaya isn't sick. Who knows? Maybe the gods did do it.

[Though he doesn't think any gods have anything to do with Kaya's health or her resurrection. If they couldn't be bothered to answer Zeno all that time ago, why would they do this now.

He seriously hopes that someone wouldn't imprison her just so that she could get other people sick - that would make her upset.]

Okay. I'll ask around.

[He doesn't sound too convinced. Or too happy. It's true that he has always a secret sadness she always respected and left alone, and she just focused on making him smile the way he made her smile. But now... they should be glad, right? There's a problem, right? Is he upset by the place or did she do something?

She put her hand on his arm, and she searches for the right words to say. She won't tell him to leave her alone now that she's probably healthy, as tempting as it is, since she'd be lost alone in a big place. But she wants to make things better for him.]

Zeno... I don't know why you're upset, but if there's any way I can help, please tell me. I haven't felt this healthy in years and I should feel happier, yet I can't smile if you're sad. Let me help, please.

[Hopefully she's not being a burden to him again.]

[Ah, she could always see through him. Not surprising really considering their first encounter. He hadn't been at his best when he first arrived to Kaya's house. Not really wanting to live, snapping at her upon the discovery that his medallion had been missing.

After a while Zeno had tried to hide those negative emotions from her. He wanted to give her smiles and happiness for the rest of her life. Instead Zeno had let himself get emotional in private but Kaya had probably been able to realize most of them when they were reunited again.

Now he's worrying her just like he had all of those years ago.

Zeno places a hand on her head gently and gives her his best smile. This one should be convincing enough. After all, he's had a long time to perfect it.]

It's okay. It's nothing Kaya did and things will get better. [What will she think when she learns that he's picked up some of her habits?] So Kaya should try not to worry so much and enjoy how good Kaya feels!

[That's the smile she knows and loves. It feels a bit forced, perhaps, but it's familiar and warm and lovely, just like the fingers on her head. It is an improvement to the uncomfortable face he had before, so she gently smiles back and lets aside the fact he's keeping upsetting things from her and quiet once again.

After all, isn't that what she does as well to him when she's afraid or in pain? Just smile to get a smile back?]

Okay, Kaya will try. But we should check with a doctor first. The people who brought us here said a lot of stuff I didn't understand, but they mentioned a way to talk to people with the thing in the ear, right? I should ask around. It's safer than approaching strangers in the road!

[Nevermind that they're still strangers and they could say anything to her.]
