[Day 359] Poker Mingle/Closed
[Poker night at Kitty's place in sector 4! She has them set up at the kitchen table with cards and poker chips. There's a variety of snacks set up along the counters—pretzels, chips, dips, pizza rolls, meatballs with toothpicks, etc. There's also some pie because Chuck is here! Ice cream in the freezer since Kitty lives here. You'll also find water, sodas, wine, and beer. Stay hydrated!

There's also a living room with comfortable seating for taking breaks or relaxing after the game. If you're going to snoop you might find a Nathan hiding out in his room or peek through a partially opened door to see Kitty's room. It's very utilitarian—no decorations, generally clean though there are stacks of books, tech, and clothes here and there. For anyone who visited other apartments she's had they were a little warmer and included more personal touches. Nothing too exciting to find in the bathroom, you perv!]

(OOC: Invitees tag in mingle style.)

No, it makes no sense that it would have changed my appearance as dramatically as it did. I assume that Nero is only a single point of divergence; there are differences between the universes that his interference cannot account for. Many things remain mysterious. [And, without a proper pause to indicate that he's shifting mental gears:] Do you know everyone here?

[He is nodding along and then suddenly a conversation offramp appears!]

Uh, some better than others, but yeah I know everyone. Actually, it's kind of hard not to know everyone when you've been here as long as I have. What about you?

Ah. I know everyone here by reputation, at least. [He keeps tabs on what everyone posts. Is that creepy?] How long have you been here? Longer than Kitty?

[Do you have a journal where you write about them? Because Sam does.] No, she's one of the only people I know who has been here longer. I showed up on day 74.

[No, but that would be an idea. Then they could compare notes!] Two-hundred eighty-five days? You have been here for longer than most. You were in the prison before this one?

[He doesn't bring it up a lot because...it's creepy to spy on your neighbors, but it's useful for the investigative team.] I was. It was structured a little differently, but there were a lot of similarities.

But it was a real prison, correct? There was evidence to suggest that it wasn't a virtual reality?

No, actually, the first sign that it wasn't real happened there. It seems like it's been virtual from the start.

I didn't know this, thank you.

I will want to ask you more questions, Sam, but I think that they can wait. You should be trying to win my money right now.

Sure, we could compare notes sometime for the team. [But do you really think he's going to have to try and win your money?]

I would also like to tell you about my ideas for escaping, if you're willing to listen. [Later. Right now, he's reaching for the cards. Sam isn't even ready for his new and improved poker face.]

I am always willing to listen to ideas for escape. [He kind of wants to do it right now since it was brought up, but he'll do this card thing and...]

What are you doing? [With your face. There is something wrong with your face.]

This is my poker face. [Still doing it. Yes, he knows it's ridiculous and no, he doesn't really care.] Is it effective?

Thank you. [Now he's smiling too much to maintain it. This will take practice.] Do you think that what happens in the virtual prison can have an effect on the actual prison?

[No, Sam, you didn't miss a transition.]

[Lips parted for a response, but he's having a hard time with it. Facey McFacerson and you're lack of segues.]

I don't know. The doors that opened led us there, so I guess there's a connection at least.

Yes, okay, but do you believe that the connections are specific to certain actions, or would an unexpected physical phenomenon have results, also? I don't expect you to know, I only want your opinion.

I'm not sure it's two-way. I would think they'd have it guarded against that, but maybe that's why they put limitations in. Maybe getting past a secured building would produce some kind of result.

[info]candothat

With a localized electromagnetic pulse. Of the three people I have told this to, two thought that it had a chance of disrupting the virtual prison and one was skeptical. What are your thoughts?

[Hopefully Sam hasn't been expecting things like explanations or lead-up or this could feel very abrupt.]

I think it's worth a shot, but we should probably know what we're doing next if it does work.

[info]tallerthanthou
2016-01-27 01:49 am UTC (link)
Well, if it lets us wake up we're going to be scattered around a large room without any weapons and a little groggy. [Is he enough of a downer yet?] If it doesn't wake us up there might be something we can do by attacking the system with hacking while it's compromised.

[He nods. These are things that he has thought about, but his focus has been getting to the real prison, not doing anything useful once they're there.]

How would you attack it? I have no experience hacking anything in this prison. [Can you feel yourself being volunteered for this project?]
