DAY 303 ☠ VIDEO
[Oh what a weird day of curiosity and... maybe... talking about things? He has a hankering for it, anyway, oddly enough. And hey, why not? He could go to Deanna, especially since she has offered numerous times, but he felt the need to broadcast this.]

Is there anybody who is really good at life stuff? Maybe... I dunno. We don't got any grandmas or grandpas around, I don't think.

[Yes if there were any around he would assume they would know all sorts of life stuff.]

I know you don't wanna hear from an asshole like me, but hear me out. Somebody good at figuring out how to do life stuff, I got some questions.

Well, I'd say being stuck here is probably the exception to the rule. Then again, being stuck here doesn't require a person to be useful, either.

Being stuck here or not really don't matter much, to tell you the truth. It's all the same.

Maybe. But that hasn't seemed to change your desire to be useful, has it?

[She definitely has a point.]

Well... no. I guess it's a lot more complicated than just being useful.

Okay. Well, I can't really offer more than I have without knowing more as to why it might be more complicated.

[He crosses his arms.]

I don't wanna bore you with a lame sob story.

Well, I can appreciate that. Why not give me the summarized version?

[Summarized version, he can do that, so he nods.]

Uselessness in a more serious, complicated matter such as when you give your older sister money for all of her medical expenses, but you still lose her because of your uselessness. Or when you finally make your first best friend and it's the greatest thing in the world, until someone better and cooler than you comes along and then you're only second best. Like that.

[That was definitely more complicated in some ways, yet less complicated in others.]

I see.

[She gave him a soft smile.]

Those are the kinds of things you can't really blame yourself for. It's not because you're useless. It was just that other forces at work at other plans.

I lost a sister, too. It's the hardest thing in the world to deal with. But we can't blame ourselves for it. Sometimes, we just have to accept that we're powerless to stop something from happening because that's life. It doesn't mean we're useless. It just means we're human.

I refuse to accept it. [He almost cuts her off, because he didn't like where she went with that.] Not when other people get to have everything.

[She took a deep breath. She'd gone through that stage...]

Trust me. I know how you feel. But that doesn't change anything. Refusing to accept it won't bring her back.

[He shrugs.]

Accepting it's not gonna make anything better either.

It makes it easier to grieve.

What's the point of that if I'm always gonna be losing people?

Because that's part of living. [She pressed her hands to her face on either side of her nose for a moment, steepling her fingers.] There's always loss. I have lost my mom, my grandmother who raised me, and one of my sisters. But dealing with that in a healthy manner is what gets me through. Denying the truth, no matter how much you want to, doesn't help you keep living.

It's not fair. I don't have a lot of people. I need everyone I have. [He puts a hand on his forehead.] I know I'm a pain in the ass, but it's just not fair.

No. It never feels fair. I never thought any of it was, either.

[A deep, long sigh.]

Sorry to bother you with all this. We can go back to strictly Defense Force acquaintances now.
