{ day 295 }
[ video ]

[ Getting tased was not fun -- it actually made him feel some strange, crushing emotion that he had been heretofore completely unfamiliar with -- so he might as well get this "craft supplies" thing out of the way. Of course, it would help if he actually knew how to make these things... So in this video post, Raito/Philip/whoever he is can be seen sitting at a table in the library, looking through a book as he makes some extremely lousy-looking dreamcatchers out of construction paper. ]

As "punishment" for leaving the beach area yesterday, I am required to share a "secret about myself". I was unsure of what exactly this entailed, as there's nothing I particularly cared to hide to begin with, but a perusal of a dictionary provided me with the definition beyond human understanding. Thus, the secret that I am going to share is this: I am the smartest human being in the world.

[ Absolutely no irony here.

He scowls down briefly at his terrible dreamcatcher, which looks more like a web spun by a drunken spider. ]

Then it's... entertaining?

I guess so.

You really don't know people like that?

Such unprofessional behavior would never be tolerated in the syndicate's labs.

Well, it's tolerated pretty much everywhere else. You'll have to get used to it.

I think I'm beginning to understand why some people may have been imprisoned here.

No one gets put in prison for being a jerk.

Perhaps they should.

Then there'd be more people in prison than out. I don't want it to get that crowded here.

It would certainly be a better criterion for arrest than what the wardens use now.

Does that mean you don't think you did any of the things they said you're here for?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]noosphere

I did some of them. Others, I'm told, I would have committed in the future, but I have no proof of that.

Seriously? I didn't know they could keep us here for stuff we haven't done yet.

[Nathan's list of crimes probably would have been far more impressive if his future misdeeds had been included.]

Those crimes are probably fabricated, anyway.

Shouldn't you be able to tell if they are or not? You are the smartest person in the world.

That doesn't mean I can see the future. The probability is very low that I would ever be in a position to commit many of these crimes, though.

Whatever. I guess it doesn't matter, since the wardens'll punish people for whatever they want.

What's your name?

If you must have a name to address me by, Conscienti insists that mine is "Raito Sonozaki".

Prior to being incarcerated here, I never seemed to need one.

That's really weird.

I'm Nathan Harris.

I've gathered that it's uncommon.

[ No reaction to the introduction -- no "nice to meet you" or anything. Rude, Raito. ]

[Skipping the small talk isn't that bad. Maybe Raito is exceptionally honest and doesn't say that it's nice to meet someone when it really isn't?]

Well, yeah. It'd be hard to talk about people or tell what belongs to who or whatever without names. Don't you ever have to be around people where you're from?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

People generally referred to me as you in the second person [ the rude version, since Japanese has that distinction ] and the kid in the third person.

[ It all seemed perfectly natural at the time, but... most people do have names, don't they? Why did he never realize this? ]

Where I'm from, we usually only talk like that to people we hate.

They couldn't have hated me. I'm necessary to them.
