Well, you all got what you wanted. I suppose 'force' is a rather fitting word now that I think about it.

[Her tone is icy and directed at a few people in particular. They'd know who they were.]

Is this how it's going to be? Step out of line and you get punished? I thought the wardens doling out punishments out was bad enough, but I guess not.

[ He barely remembers how he got home. When it hit, it hit so hard and everything since then has just been one steady stream of torment, easing up just enough so he can keep himself functional and barely that. Feeding is out of the question, the burn of his soul filling him with nauseous guilt that not even the demon can beat and so he just wanders, squirms, smokes when he can but not much more than that.

The communicator has been mostly left alone since last night and it's the desire to see if Jack is gloating yet that makes him catch her message in stereo. He pushes himself up to stand, pulling himself together enough to wander out to her. ]

[ She was too late. Rose only realised what had happened to him when Spike came back to their apartment in a terrible state, so completely unlike himself. While Rose had felt guilty about the people she hurt in her rampage, the guilt would be tenfold for Spike, maybe even much more than that. She's worried because he hasn't eaten but he seemed to show no interest in it so Rose let it be for the time being.

Rose hears footsteps coming from behind her, turning to see Spike approaching her. The communicator is still connected but she ignores it in favour of speaking with him. ]

I'm trying to. [ It hurts, seeing Spike like this. ] I doubt that they will actually listen or even give a damn, but I had to make my voice heard.

[ She wants to gather him into her arms but Rose doesn't know if he wants her to. ]

[ He doesn't blame her for not being there when they had him trapped like a rat in the library, but with the soul comes paranoia and it's difficult to not lash out. The turmoil itself of having two separate entities fighting for dominance in his chest is disorienting enough, making his tone tense and sharp. ]

They don't care. They never cared... think we're the monsters and then turn around and condemn a man to an eternity of torture. [ He spits out the words, the heel of his hand pressed firmly against his forehead as if he can somehow push his thoughts back in order. ]

They have their own agenda and part of that was to make you suffer. Planning it for a long time, using whatever resources they had.

[ She walks over to Spike, stopping a few feet away to give him the space he needs. Rose wants to punch something and let out her frustration but she has been reigning herself in ever since he came back- he didn't need that. ]

When I tried to explain what this would do to you, it didn't matter. Like you said, they don't care.

Buffy would never stand for it... never.

[ She knew the man he became with the soul willingly retrieved. She knew and she told him and never ever encouraged him to go after it or threatened to shove it in his chest because she understood. She knew what that would do to a person. She'd seen it up close, knew about the decades of agony it took for Angelus to settle in to Angel and even there it was a daily struggle, a daily torture. For all the shit he's said about Angel, there was always a deep-seated sense of sorrow at the very base. His grandsire. His mentor. His Yoda and they had the fucking gall to do that to him.

And now Spike is in the same position, soul thrashing against the inside of his ribcage, burning so brightly it feels like his innards may just drip out of him like molten lead. His hand slips from his brow to his chest, fingers curling in the fabric of his shirt, digging into the muscle hard enough to whiten his knuckles. ]

Get it out.

	How many people does a person have to kill and attack without provocation before they move from "step out of line" to something with a little stronger language? It's going to be over two deaths and four attacks. So seven? Eight? Twenty? Sixty-three and a third? Am I getting warm? It wasn't a punishment. It was a way of trying to keep people here safe.
