260 — Olympics mingle
[ It is a gorgeous day down here at the bottom of the sea and what better day to have an Olympics! The obstacle course is set up, the towels are fluffed, the medals have been polished to a high sheen and every orange within sight has been sliced.

Okay. Maybe not every orange. A lot of them. Enough to fuel a whole prison full of athletes, so athlete away! We can't waste all these oranges! ]

((ooc: Event information can be found here! There will be no individual threads for the separate events, but you are encouraged and welcome to detail in your headers or starter tags what your characters are up to! ))

Ah, indeed? [ with a measure of languid fluidity, he moves into a loose, casual en garde. it's no threat— not a serious one, at least. ]

Your pretensions to familiarity do not impress me. [ that's piter for "you don't know my life!" ] You think Piter a predictable man?

I just didn't take you for someone to fall in line when the wardens pass out toys.

How delightfully condescending! Very bold; I would applaud were I not occupied. [ he actually laughs and flips the grip of the foil in his grasp— but there's a delicate, cold edge to his laugh, like chipped glass. ] You evidently did not take me as one interested in examining the resources our wardens choose to put on display. "Toys," as you say, have their purposes.

[You would make such a good demon. Try calling him a moose.]

Maybe their purpose is testing you while you're testing it.

Tests within tests within tests. How waggish! [ it's almost difficult to restrain himself from adding, "you brute." (not quite moose, but still.) by now the chill has crept a bit further into his voice, despite his jocundity: a desert-night sort of cold. ]

[He hears the cold and he should probably back off. That's what they do here, right? Everyone plays nicely more or less? Just threats, bravado, and then the very occasional body. The rate of dropping is much lower than he's used to after all. It's a good system or at least it's the system, but he finds it growing old and grating on him. He wants to keep pushing.]

What? You don't think think they would?

[ piter can feel the push more and more with every question. being questioned at all is taxing for him; it naturally annoys a mentat to feel that his intellect is being undermined. but there's something intriguing about this, about the way sam poses questions— piter finds it demanding, almost amusingly so. it hasn't pushed enough that he must push back yet. ] I wouldn't put such inane scheming past them— but is it not rich? If that's the case, they truly think themselves clever.

[Sam has had a life of interviewing people, mining for facts and details they don't want to give. Awkward, odd, embarrassing and often from the recently bereaved. Experience didn't always translate into skill. There aren't a lot of great ways of asking if you've noticed cold spots or flickering lights without getting looks. But this had taught him that when there is no tactful wording or pleasant lie you still have to charge forward because it's important.]

You don't think much of them, do you?
