video;
It's a beautiful morning. Good morning, to old friends and to new. One more day will complete our first week here, Deanna and I. A lot seems to have happened in that short time; losses that some of us have felt very strongly, and we've made new friends, people that I hope to get to know better in the coming weeks.

I'd very much like to use this opportunity to meet more of the inmates here, and perhaps to speak more frankly with some of you those that I've already met, now that I've had the opportunity to get a better understanding of my surroundings. If anyone would like to speak in person, or join me on the ice, I'll be spending the next few hours at the ice rink in Sector 3. From what I hear the sparkly costumes are obligatory. [ There's a distinct sparkle to Riker's eyes as he speaks. ]

Private to Helen Magnus

I'd like to speak to you, or perhaps schedule a meeting for later if you're busy.

Private to Deanna

We should talk about your progress--and perhaps you'd like to watch me flounder? It's been a while since I put on skates, and some of these costumes are...very daring. You wouldn't want to miss out.

Private to Seven

Do you skate? [ He doesn't say 'Do the Borg ice skate?' It's a subtle but important difference. ]

Action:

[ Riker can be found watching as the day's events begin to take shape on the ice rink, pawing thoughtfully through the selection of sparkly outfits and watching the others who come to show their interest. He seems to be very invested in everything, intensely curious and very good natured considering - as he said - that he's been here less than a week. ]

[ if only the writers of the post series novels had the ability to remember that, but remembering details of the franchise you're writing for is hard ]

Captain Janeway felt my full designation was too Borg. We agreed upon Seven of Nine after I declined to return to using my name. [ data uses it, but that's different. new and different, something she had to adapt to and is still adapting to. ] Seven is an informality made commonplace by members of my crew who felt it necessary to shorten my designation out of fondness and a desire to make me feel like I belonged.

As for my dislike of informalities, I am Borg. Was Borg. I do not enjoy the chaos that informalities bring, the uncertain ground that one finds themselves standing on when interacting with others in an informal setting. It is... unsettling.

[ she tries, but there's always going to be bits and pieces of her personality that are too borg to ever be human. it's an unfortunate consequence of her unconventional, horrific upbringing. ]

Because it is unpredictable. Where if one Borg asked another how they felt, they might reply with the temperature constant of the room, the air pressure, and its chemical composition. But among individuals, 'How do you feel?' is infinitely more complicated. It isn't good enough, and the logical answer is no longer the right one.

[ He's making an effort to understand, and he smiles at her again, reciting from memory. ]

Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero-One. [ He inclines his head. ] It sounds important. In Federation records, the system which includes Earth is Sector Zero-Zero-One, nevermind that both the Federation and Starfleet often defer to galactic records of starfaring races that had been exploring the stars hundreds, sometimes thousands of years before humankind.

So I suppose my question is: Is it? Important, I mean.

The question is irrelevant; Borg do not feel.

[ she had no tangible concept of the word while she was still a drone. seven remembers being in pain after they severed her connection to the collective, disoriented and frighteningly alone, but having no proper definition of words that used to be so familiar to her in childhood to apply to what she was "feeling" at the time, because she didn't know how to feel any more. it took her months to grow accustomed to the concept in the wake of her liberation.

a slow nod, the tightening of her lips. it is, but not in ways he will enjoy hearing. there is only one federation vessel other than voyager that is familiar with any sort of notion of the focal point of the hive mind, and that's the enterprise-e. a queen was aboard their ship for some time during the attempt to unravel history, after all. ]

Drones in my subunit worked in close contact with the Collective's central nexus.
