It's a beautiful morning. Good morning, to old friends and to new. One more day will complete our first week here, Deanna and I. A lot seems to have happened in that short time; losses that some of us have felt very strongly, and we've made new friends, people that I hope to get to know better in the coming weeks.

I'd very much like to use this opportunity to meet more of the inmates here, and perhaps to speak more frankly with some of you those that I've already met, now that I've had the opportunity to get a better understanding of my surroundings. If anyone would like to speak in person, or join me on the ice, I'll be spending the next few hours at the ice rink in Sector 3. From what I hear the sparkly costumes are obligatory. [ There's a distinct sparkle to Riker's eyes as he speaks. ]

We should talk about your progress--and perhaps you'd like to watch me flounder? It's been a while since I put on skates, and some of these costumes are...very daring. You wouldn't want to miss out.

Do you skate? [ He doesn't say 'Do the Borg ice skate?' It's a subtle but important difference. ]

[ Riker can be found watching as the day's events begin to take shape on the ice rink, pawing thoughtfully through the selection of sparkly outfits and watching the others who come to show their interest. He seems to be very invested in everything, intensely curious and very good natured considering - as he said - that he's been here less than a week. ]

	[ A Riker knows the size of his wife's feet, so while he's waiting for Deanna he picks her out a pair of elegant white boots, testing the laces with his hands. [ deanna arrives soon afterwards, making her way through the area to where her husband is. once in the building, they're close enough that she can sense him, however faintly, and she knows she's found him when she can feel the strength of their connection. when she reaches his side, she's brought a bright smile, just as she said she would. ]

Are you planning on spending all day here?

[ not that she really minds. they could use some manner of fun like this, after all. ]

	They seem to be doing well for the most part. Any in particular you want to discuss? I think you know where I'd like to start: how are you coping with having a Borg crewmember around?

[ Out of the two of them, Riker was probably positioned to have a harder time of it, but only barely. The Borg were their enemy; an enemy on the scale of which they hadn't known how to face, and then unexpectedly the threat had seemed to subside--Janeway's return had given them that reprieve. But there was still that impossible fear that no Jem'Hadar clone warrior could replace; cold, resilient, and without compromise, the Borg would always hold a special frozen place of fear in the heart of any that faced them. ]

When we had contact with Borg cubes before, you could feel them, feel the hive mind. Do you feel that same connection with her?

[ with her skates on tightly, she moves to stand up, reaching out to her husband with a hand to steady herself. it gives her a chance to evaluate her answer. she understands his hesitation, felt it herself when she first heard they had a former drone here, but all of her interactions with seven have been relatively positive, even with the harsh reminders of her borg past. despite attempts to the contrary, the crew of the enterprise would always be scarred by prejudice where the borg was concerned. the trick is how to overcome that prejudice to understand the individual presented to them. ]

No, I don't. I don't sense much of anything from her. My abilities are limited compared to what they normally would be, but I haven't sensed the Collective since we arrived here. She speaks as an individual who grew up as one of them, but I sense none of their hostility in her. If I had to explain it further, I would say that she is experiencing culture shock. She's been thrust into a human environment and is expected to be one of them as though she had grown up human.

[ that is the difficulty for seven, as far as deanna can tell. as for the rest of them... honestly, deanna feels that seven's situation is like captain picard's, only on a much larger scale. both were assimilated against their will. the difference is in time spent with the collective. and as far as deanna is concerned, how can they not offer to seven's situation the same respect and understanding that they automatically give their captain's? ]

How are you dealing with her?
