[video/action] 253 - & devil's compass mingle
[The Devil's Compass is no longer littered with candles, save perhaps a few on the bar that add a little something to the dim lighting that recreates the old-world style of tavern the place is modeled after. It's actually quite clean otherwise, with Tyki lounging in one of the booths with a bent knee up on the seat and the camera looking at him sitting there with a cigarette drooping out of the corner of his mouth.]

If you haven't been to the Devil's Compass yet for the drink or my company, I'll give you two further incentives.

[Sidelong he reaches to crush out the cigarette, a plume of smoke coiling upward.]

One, there's fresh pie thanks to the lovely Charlotte.

[His eyes flick up to the camera with a dangerous glint while his lips curl.] Second, this week we've also got a barmaid. She doesn't bite but she might scratch.

[And so Tyki's bar is open as always but with a mingle! And for the next week Kitty Pryde (the elder) will be roped into being the Compass' barmaid due to a bet gone wrong. Tyki will be exceptionally cheerful about this, more often behind the bar than usual (which in itself is fairly often) at least while she's on the job. This means he'll be rather friendly and talkative. Best time to meet him, really. He'll have a thread right here.]

[She gave him a curious look, but wasn't going to pry if he didn't want to share.]

Must be weird having a twin.

[She laughed a little nervously.]

Well, I mean... you're probably used to it.

Yeah, it's not weird for me. I'm used to it. Though generally twins have much different things to fight about than regular siblings. It doesn't quite make as much sense for them.

I would imagine. Well, yeah. As much as I could, anyway. I fought with my sisters... still do. [She sighed.] But that's just normal with siblings in general.

Yeah, it is. I fought with my brother before. But we also had fights of who was the favorite, which makes less sense when you are identical twins.

[Yes, he had always felt bitter and though that his parents had favored Neil]

[She tilted her head a little, listening to more than just what he was saying.]

Yeah. I guess so. I would hope there weren't favorites.

Honestly when I was younger, I always thought my parents favored my brother. He was more of a people person than I was. In general, it was easier for people to like him.

I can't imagine that you'd be horribly unlikable. [She offered him a small smile.] But, hey... to each their own, right? I mean, Phoebe was always the outgoing one. Prue was the overachiever. I was the responsible homebody. Each of us was different.

Maybe, though, because of the whole twin thing, people might have expected you two to be the same? [She shrugged.]

Thanks. I suppose you are right, but I generally harder time if he met them first. I was more of the bookwork I guess. Neil was the 'going to ignoring classwork as much as possible' guy.

I know they expected us to be the same. I heard it a lot. Comments how I wasn't like Neil. Well... yeah.

People tend to expect that of siblings in general, I think, but probably more so for twins... and identical ones on top of that. I got it a bit, being the second one in the family. Teachers were always comparing me to my sister if they had her in class before me.

But, I doubt it was the same.

A little bit different. I'm sure my sister had it the worst. Neil was outgoing and sporty, I was more intellectual. No matter which way she went, one of us was there to be compared to.

Oh wow, yeah. I can't imagine being the youngest. Phoebe probably had it the worst with two of us going through school ahead of her.

How much younger is your sister?

I can't imagine either. I was technically the middle... by like an hour or less.

She was five years younger.

I'm sorry.

It's something that can't be changed unfortunately. Our family was caught in the middle of a explosion. Only my brother and I lived, me because I was away at school.

No... it can't be, but...

[Piper wasn't past her own family tragedy completely, yet, so she'll just stare at the table for a bit.]

[She closed her eyes at the touch.]

I've lost a sibling as well. And my mother. So... I just... Well, I've had time to overcome my mother's death, but Prue was... it was only a year ago, so I guess it's still really new for me.

No. I guess it doesn't.

[Her mom. Grams. And now Prue. It was a lot to take sometimes. She had a lot more time between her mother and Grams, but it felt like she had finally started to accept Grams was gone when Prue was killed. It almost wasn't fair.

But she'd gone through that part of her grief already. She understood. It didn't make it hurt less, just a little easier to deal with.

She turned her hand, clasping his in return.]

Hey... I guess the next time they have mandatory counseling, maybe we'll be in the same group.

[She gave him a mirthless smile. Sarcasm and sharp wit... one of her few defenses against emotional turmoil.]

Yeah, it sounds like we will be.

Here’s hoping.

May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live.

[Given what they were talking about, kind of morbid, but a good sentiment]

Is that a proverb or something?

An Irish toast. There are a lot of them, but not all appropriate for the situation.
