[ day 253 ] action :: open
[ Option One ]

First thing in the morning, Jean-Luc stops by the Defense Force headquarters to check in. He makes a habit of this every other day or so, just to see if he's needed in any manner but his usual patrol duties. So he can be found here with a fresh cup of steaming tea. He probably won't remain for long though, so catch him while you can if you need him.

[ Option Two ]

As often as he frequents the library, he should probably set up residence there. A home away from home, sort of thing. But nevertheless, he is at the library again. He's perusing the bookshelves, for the rare novelty of a book from another world that Earth. He frequently finds them in this place, as the prison does pull people in from everywhere. And this is his own personal way to continue his exploration of the Universe. Books, after all, are one of the most obvious founts of knowledge. And we know what people say of idle minds...

[ Closed to Helen Magnus ]

Jean-Luc has packed a dinner for both himself and Helen. He had sent her a message to meet at the stables later in the afternoon. He's in the stables, saddling up two horses, one for himself and one for Helen. A bag settles on the ground at his feet. He's in full riding attire. But yes, he has accepted that this meeting of theirs is an actual date. And he's okay with that.

Good to know he wasn't an alien! Huh. He also scrunched his face a little. Only seventy days?

"Longer than I've been here. Almost ten days maybe? I haven't kept count." And because this is a life sentence, he's only scratched the surface of it. It was going to be a long haul, wasn't it?

"I'm Shadow." At least he was more comfortable going by. This old timer had a much fancier name, but it sort of reminded him of his own true name, as it was also french in origin.

"Well met, Shadow." He pauses, curiosity winning out over the relative newness of this indebted. "And what are your initial feelings on our accommodations?"

"It's okay... Nothing like Paragon, but a lot better than being in Port Oakes." He wrinkles his nose at that.

"Aside from them sending monsters out to try and eat us in the dark, it's kind of boring." No hunting and he doesn't really have any place to play anywhere worth mentioning, hence his bookcase surfing here at the library.

Apparently Shadow has not ventured into Sector Six where there is a whole jungle like area to play in. But Picard only patrols that sector rather than plays in it given the occupants.

"Oh, I've found that anyplace is what you make of it." He pauses. "What are your interests. I take it you read." He offers, which would explain his being in the library, at least to Jean-Luc.

He was convinced he wasn't allowed in, and he wasn't so sure about contending with those robots again for a little while, hence his not wanting to venture forth.

"Suppose so." Does he read? Yes, but it's too hard to read on a hard copy.

"I read on an Ipad and I don't have one here. And comic books are more fun anyway." He shrugs.

"And cartoons--" He snorts. "It's hard to have hobbies when you don't have thumbs."

"An iPad?" Jean-Luc is unfamiliar with the term, so he pauses to question it. Although he is assuming that it is a reading device similar to the ones he has aboard his starship. He merely seeks clarification.

"It's a flat screen that you can touch to control, watch movies and read, play games, that stuff." He nods.

"I have no idea what the 'i' stands for though."

"I see. As I thought." He nods, understanding. "And you read comic books?" He remembers said still cartoons from when he was much younger. But it had been some time since he had encountered any.

"It's easier to read with pictures. Otherwise audio books." Which made life so much easier when he could just listen instead of having to use his eyes which were not made for squinting at tiny text. He needed something that moved.

It occurred to him then that this was a library, but he also didn't have his preferred reading method, being his pad. Which meant he'd have to read a hard copy.

The word audiobooks captures his attention. "Have you asked the Wardens for a device to play such audiobooks. Perhaps something can be engineered to give you access to downloads here within the library."
