[ day 253 ] action :: open
[ Option One ]

First thing in the morning, Jean-Luc stops by the Defense Force headquarters to check in. He makes a habit of this every other day or so, just to see if he's needed in any manner but his usual patrol duties. So he can be found here with a fresh cup of steaming tea. He probably won't remain for long though, so catch him while you can if you need him.

[ Option Two ]

As often as he frequents the library, he should probably set up residence there. A home away from home, sort of thing. But nevertheless, he is at the library again. He's perusing the bookshelves, for the rare novelty of a book from another world that Earth. He frequently finds them in this place, as the prison does pull people in from everywhere. And this is his own personal way to continue his exploration of the Universe. Books, after all, are one of the most obvious founts of knowledge. And we know what people say of idle minds...

[ Closed to Helen Magnus ]

Jean-Luc has packed a dinner for both himself and Helen. He had sent her a message to meet at the stables later in the afternoon. He's in the stables, saddling up two horses, one for himself and one for Helen. A bag settles on the ground at his feet. He's in full riding attire. But yes, he has accepted that this meeting of theirs is an actual date. And he's okay with that.

Helen had been a touch surprised at the request she'd received from Jean-Luc. It wasn't too much of a surprise, considering their last talk had begun with him asking her to go riding with him, but it was enough of one so soon after that deep talk. A few days have passed since that talk, but what they spoke of and the situation surrounding that talk have been ringing in her mind ever since. They finally admitted to things between them, to that certain tension she had been aware of since before she first kissed him, and somehow it's as though a weight has been lifted off her shoulders. She doesn't have to worry about how she feels towards him any longer, nor does she need feel the need to hide it. They can just be themselves around each other and enjoy their stay together in this prison as best they can.

She arrives at the proper time, not early but certainly not late. It had taken her some time to find proper attire for this, as she hadn't gone riding in many years and certainly not like this, but she'd managed. Her hair is pulled up into a ponytail, though strands have already come loose to frame her face. She's given up trying to tame her hair. And she's perfectly content to consider this a date. With everything between them out in the open, she isn't worrying as much about whether or not he would approve of being so close to her.

There is a slight touch of sadness to her, though it's very small and she's working to hide it. The musical efforts yesterday had reminded her of her upbringing and her mother's attempts to get her to be musical herself. It's been a very long time since she'd considered the ides, but ever since yesterday morning, she's been wondering about playing something. Perhaps later.

For now, her attention is fully on Jean-Luc as she arrives, stopping to wait for him to finish before she takes his attention. Once he's through and she has the space and opportunity to do so, she approaches him with a bright smile. Leaning in just enough, she presses her cheek to his and kisses the air beside him, first on one side and then the other.

"Nice of you to invite me out," she murmurs, half teasing and half completely honest. She has a feeling they will both enjoy this outing and she is very much looking forward to it.

So intent as he was upon saddling the horses that he hadn't realized she had arrived for several minutes. His hands move as if they are accustomed to such endeavors, ensuring that the buckles are good at tight, reigns properly placed so as to cause the creatures minimal discomfort. Yes, he has done this many times over as they had had several horses in Lebarre. His mother had loved to ride and had taught her sons well.

He's paused to smooth his gloved palm over the side of one of the horses head when he notices that she's there. His eyes smile first, filling with a certain spark that occurs when she's near. And his lips quickly follow suit to mimic the emotion with a small grin as she approaches him. Her kisses are mirrored and Jean-Luc revels in the propriety of it all. He does enjoy such things as he is a sentimental man by nature and his mother had taken great pains to make sure that he and Robert knew of and maintained a certain amount of etiquette while still allowing them to be young boys.

"I did promise you that I would. And I am nothing if not a man of my word." He replies. "As it is, my invitation could be considered purely selfish on my part given the manner of company I'm in."

Helen can tell by his movements that this is an action he has grown quite accustomed to. She might be more than a touch out of practice, but she can hope she won't disappoint him with her abilities. For a few moments after she pulls back, as he is speaking, her attention is fully on him, her smile and the light in her eyes only for him. For the first time in a very, very long time, she is content to allow her personal feelings to cloud everything else. No work she has here is more important than this and as she has no idea how long her time here will be, she is taking advantage of the time offered to her. Nearly two centuries have passed since she last allowed this of herself.

"I don't see any problem with a little indulgence if my company is as good as yours." Her response is warm, genuine and yet with a slight hint of teasing. "Besides, I do believe I would enjoy taking as much time to get to know you as you will allow."

Unlike him, she isn't wearing gloves at the moment, as she wishes to introduce herself to the horse she'll be riding properly before they head out. She holds Jean-Luc's gaze for a moment longer before she turns to the horses. "You seem to know your way around a barn. Shall we?"

If and when he discovered that it had been nearly two centuries since she had allowed herself a relationship of the sort that they were developing, he would feel very lucky. And he might question why, why in any number ways that the question why could be asked in this instance. Nevertheless, he is very pleased that she agreed to meet him here and spend her time with him. Even without knowing that he is her first in some time, he feels the enormity of her decision to be here with him.

"Yes, I... my mother had several horses on the Vineyard. She taught us to ride, my brother and me." After picking up his bag he brought with him and looping it over a hook on the saddle, he turns to one horse to rub his palm down her neck. "This one seems fairly tame. I thought perhaps you might ride her."

Library

Really, Eric ought to be in bed. The sun is up and he is a nocturnal creature. However, lately, he's been pushing that daylight limit. He's ceased to give a fuck whether people see him walking around with blood coming out of his ears, eyes and nose. In truth, there's a much more psychological reason at work for him to be wandering around in the early morning hours, one that he won't admit to; if he can bleed a little more, loose a little more blood then maybe whatever bond he had with Sookie, whatever bits of her blood are still left in him, will bleed out and he will miss her less, as if his emotions for her had everything to do with her blood and their bond instead of everything to do with the girl that was bottled sunshine and freedom. It's ridiculous really, and he knows it, but it's a subconscious sort of thing that eats at him anyway.

Which has everything and nothing to do with why he's at the library this morning. The truth is, he's been here a while, as evidenced by the stack of books at the table he's sitting at. He's sprawled in a chair, long legs stretched out, head tilted back over the back of the chair, book in the air as he flips through it. After a moment, he tosses that book to the side in disgust then snatches up another. That's the moment the bleeds choose to make an appearance. Rather than be surprised or shocked or concerned about it, he plucks up a handkerchief and starts dabbing at the various bleeding orifices while he flips through another book.

Being an observant sort of man, it's honestly the blood that catches his attention first. Normally he would have taken note of what particular book a person is reading first. But at this moment, the blood reigns supreme and takes precedence over anything else. And really, why wouldn't it? It certainly isn't everyday that one comes upon a man bleeding out of several places at once.

Concern mingled with curiosity is etched into his features as he moves to stand on the opposite side of the table with a heavy volume of the complete works of Shakespeare in his arm. It's his go-to book here in the library and he picks it up whenever possible for fear that it might be one of the volumes the library takes away as he has noticed that they do seem to cycle through their inventory often enough.

"Excuse me. Are you ill? Do you require medical assistance?"

The books stacked on Eric's table all happen to be related to travel between dimensions or escapes from various kinds of prisons. He hasn't been picky about fiction or nonfiction as he's found that fiction often has it's basis in real life. He looks up at Jean-Luc's question, expression blank for a moment until he feels a fresh trickle of blood from his ear. He reaches up with the handkerchief, wipes at the blood, smearing some of it onto his cheek and shakes his head.

"Actually, I'm quite fine. Believe it or not."

He's not being a smart ass. For once.

"All evidence would point toward the contrary." It's said softly, gently, as if worrying over someone that he isn't entirely sure would know whether he was alright or not. Needless to say, given the amount of blood, he's reading lightly.

"Are you certain?"

And he offers her the same respect that he would anyone in that position as she hasn't given him any reason to treat her otherwise. That means he deals with her with a certain amount of decorum. ]

Thanks. [Kitty's been a leader for awhile—longer than one might expect for her young age. Of course back home it was more of a dual leadership in a training facility. Things are different here in more ways than one and some days she's still surprised she's at the top of the Defense Force ladder, but here she is leading people with way more experience back to her office. She gestures to a seat and takes one herself once their in.]

I don't get the feeling either of us are much for small talk, so I'm going to jump right into something. Data told me about the issues you were having. Are they still occurring or was it resolved?

[ He sits carefully in the chair she indicated, relaxed to begin with. But he bristles a bit with her question that seems quite personal to him. And his brow furrows with the fact that Data had discussed his problems with this woman he hardly knows. Not that it had been a huge secret, but it certainly didn't need to be discussed with someone who didn't understand what had happened or why. He'll have to speak to his officer about that. ]

I assure you that all is quite well. The matter has been resolved.

This cat has found a new playground, and not a thought was passed onto whether or not it was right or wrong. Books were knocked onto the floor, claw marks trailing up to the top of a book shelf where he had climbed up to the top to stand and prowl around on the jungle of shelves. From there, hopping from one shelf to another, and occasionally slipping due to not being as graceful as a house cat and weighing them by over ten times.

Picard probably noticed the evidence of his adventures, but did he think to look up to see the big cat poised to jump to another shelf and missing it by about a yard. It's a moment in which you wonder how a creature so athletic could miss by that far of a margin and fall straight down.

Thankfully, he doesn't seem hurt when he gets up and shakes himself off as if nothing had happened.

He does indeed look up, and wonder at the sight of the over-sized cat in a library as he seems so out of place. Not to mention the harm he's doing to the bookshelves with his claws. But then he's always loathed destruction for destruction's sake. It seemed so thoughtless and Jean-Luc was ever a proponent of thought and consideration.

However, when the creature falls, his curiosity turns to concern. Even as the creature shakes off the fall, he's certain that it had to have hurt. So he's compelled to inquire after him and possibly alert the Wardens to the cat's presence. He inches closer. "That was quite a fall. Are you alright?"

He'd noticed Jean-Luc briefly before but didn't really pay him mind. As far as he knew there were no rules against what he was doing, right? As far as his physical condition goes, he did feel the shock of the fall, and he was aching for it, but it wouldn't last long.

"Ohh, that's nothing." He said, puffing out his chest as he projected his thoughts to Picard from his voice chip.

"I've jumped from buildings before."

Tieria had been helping out with dispatch, taking additional shifts there on top of his normal patrol shifts. He was going through some paperwork as he monitored the network, more than capable of multitasking with such activities, as Jean-Luc arrived. He looked up at feeling someone enter.

"Good day, Captain," he said.

Upon the greeting, Jean-Luc offered a small grin and a nod, pausing at the desk where Tieria was working. "Mr. Erde. You look as if you're keeping busy. I trust you're well?"

"Well enough," he replied. "They were short on dispatch personnel, so I am assisting with additional shifts until such time as we are able to recruit additional people." It did keep him busy, and kept his mind from going into places he might not want it to. "Are you finishing a patrol yourself?"

[ It isn't surprising that Data knows to seek out the Captain in the library, of course; and after having a visit with Veridical in the morning, it's the next item on his agenda. After all, he has just had a suspicion confirmed that certainly concerns his commanding officer as well. So he approaches and stops a few feet away, tentative before he just walks right up - ]

Captain?

[ Jean-Luc doesn't have to look to know it's Data. He pauses his perusal of the shelves. He also knows his officer well enough to know that he wouldn't seek him out unless he had a report or a question. ]

Yes, Data. Report.

[ And he does indeed have a report; no hesitation, though he's clearly not happy to bear the news. ]

I have just spoken with the warden Veridical, sir. Geordi is no longer present in the facility.
