[Have one Jack Harkness, looking rather grim and very unlike the lighthearted flirt most of you will have come to know him as. This is the former leader of Torchwood, the people's protector.]

Something's happened to Spike. I think he may pose a danger to the people here. He attacked me a while back but I didn't think anything of it until a couple of days ago when he told me he killed someone else, too – someone who may or may not have got up again like I did.

[A beat] I think we need to be prepared to try and contain him, if necessary.

No. Something has definitely changed. He’d taunted me with the idea of it before, but it was definitely just in fun then, and it would have been consensual. This… wasn’t wholly non-consensual, to be frank, but I didn’t actually get a choice about it either.

[Which is the part that’s making him finally actually take this seriously. Well, that and:]

He also kind of threatened Ianto. I don’t know how much weight to put into that, but, well. I’m a little uneasy, let’s put it that way.

I said 'would' not 'could'. Obviously, he could hurt Ianto if he really wanted to. It's just that up till now, I assumed the threat of us lot coming down on him was what was making him behave. Until I threw that at him and he laughed in my face.

[A beat.] What can we actually do, though? Apart from alerting people to be vigilent, is there anything we can actually do to stop him? Or will the wardens just come down on us just as much as on him?

You gave him a challenge? [She doesn't know Spike that well, but he does seem like the kind of guy you tell him he can't do something and he'll go out of his way to do it.]

[She clears her throat at his question though. It's something she's thought about, but never had a firm solution to.] If you mean stop him as in death then, yeah, the wardens will come down on whoever does that. [Which is not to say it is necessarily the wrong thing to do if it's needed, but...] I'm also not ready for that here.

...There was a jail cell in the last prison for holding other inmates. [But Kitty didn't like that. Didn't like enforcing justice on people sans government and representation and all that. But where's the middle ground? Talk people out of it? How well has that worked with Tyki? She can't be that naive about it.]

Maybe something's wrong with Spike. Making him act this way. [She wishes Buffy were still here.]

Uh, yeah? [He gives her a slightly shamefaced look.] It's posturing, okay? It's what people like Spike and me do!

[A long time ago, it used to be something he did for kicks with a man who looked very much like Spike. Old habits die hard.]

Yeah, Penelope reckons it could just be a temporary thing that's affecting him, too. I say we give it a day or two and see what happens. If nothing happens, then perhaps we're okay.

[Because yes, he can read between the lines and into those little silences she's dropping, which say that in fact, apart from killing Spike as a last resort, the Defence Force is, actually, pretty defenceless.]

Well, I don’t think I exactly lost that round. [Though he’ll realise later that he did.] We just both withdrew to regroup. I think.

[And moving swiftly on, hoping Kitty will be able to put her personal differences with Garcia aside for this.]

She’s his friend. I saw them drinking together the other day – that’s why I stopped to snoop and make sure he didn’t do anything nasty – but he was fine with her. She doesn’t think he’ll hurt her. I have to say, I’m tempted to ask her to talk to him, but the other part of me doesn’t want her anywhere near him. I told her to be careful.

	Good. Definitely no asking her to talk to him. She's dispatch, not combat. If she wants to put herself in danger on her own time [then Kitty will still worry about her because of Reid] then that's her call, but anyone not specifically on a combat team is not meant to be handling potentially physically dangerous situations. [His eyebrows go up briefly, because putting this in terms of people's official positions is not something that's occurred to him. He tends to just use whatever resources he has available to solve a problem and if that means putting civilians into a dangerous situation - especially if they volunteer for it - then protocol be damned.

But he knows Kitty's been here longer and knows what works here, so he's happy to defer. Hell, it's kind of nice not to have to take this one on his own! So he quirks her a small, lopsided smile as he nods slightly.] Yes, Ma'am! I'm going to be out patrolling myself. Make sure that if he does get up to anything - if this starts to escalate - then we'll know about it ASAP.
