[ He's sure of it now. Not that it matters — not that he cares — but the Dome does seem particularly Scoobie free. Buffy's gone and she took the lit'le bit and that mangy mutt with her. Sam's been missing even longer and with that he's plum out of moral influence. It's a relief in a way. It allows him to not think so hard about that sad flicker of a soul he's got somewhere out there in the world. It's freedom but just as much abandonment. Angel's come and gone and now the last sliver of familiarity disappeared. The last man standing from Sunnydale and he has to wonder... did they find a way home?

Did he get left behind?

It's not something to dwell on in any case. Not when there's hunting to be done and without a Slayer in the dome, who's to stop him? Eric, the great big hypocrite? The Wardens? He'd love to see them try. But first... a few stiff drinks at the Rusty Spoon, formerly known as Merlotte's. For old times sake. ]

((ooc: Available at the bar or skulking around outside somewhere, if you want a meeting that doesn't involve ridiculous amounts of alcohol! ))

[Jack had only popped out to the Rusty Spoon for a bottle of wine to bring home and share with Ianto, but the sight of Spike in there chatting to Garcia pulls him up short. He's vaguely aware that they're friends, but he's also acutely aware that Spike is no longer the harmless puppy he once was. He feels a pang of guilt that he's been too caught up in this new thing he's got with Ianto to do anything about Spike after Spike downed him and killed him, and decides he's not going to make that mistake again. Spike's not harming anyone else, not on his watch.

He calls Ianto to warn him he won't be home for a while after all (without divulging the reason, because he doesn't want Ianto to worry) and then he hangs around outside the Rusty Spoon, watching Spike through the window, ready to dive in if things get ugly.

He only leaves once, and that's to find a nice firm stick he can use as a stake. He whittles the end into a point while he resumes his post in the shadows outside the window.

When Spike finally leaves the bar – assuming he hasn't already tried to eat anyone within Jack's view – Jack will be silently waiting in the deep shadows not far from the door, stake in hand. He's not planning on a confrontation, not unless Spike forces one on him, but he has forgotten just how sharp Spike's senses are and that Spike will realise he's there far more easily than a human would.]

((OOC: Let me know if anything here doesn't work for you!))

[ Jack may have been the first, but he's not the only one and certainly not the last. It's thrilling, being able to do his thing in a place this confined and not catch any punishment for it. Not from the wardens, not from the blessed Defence Force, not from any of the renegade warriors of justice — and with the Scoobies gone there's no one around who knows just what he's capable of.

Both the good and the bad. He can be whoever he wants to be.

There's been no blatant eating in the open tonight. Not yet in any case and the casual swagger he falls into as he exits the bar for a late night smoke doesn't exactly exude predatorial desire. He takes a few steps out into the street as he lights up, one more, two... and then he turns his head in the general direction of where Jack is waiting. ]

You want something, why don't you come out and get it...?

[ A familiar smell in the air, coupled with near-perfect night vision. You'll have to hide a lot better than that, Jackie-boy. ]

[His hand clenches around the makeshift stake as he sees Spike finally come out of the bar. Not so much because he's planning on using it, because he's not, but more because seeing Spike again at close quarters rouses all sorts of unwanted feelings in him. Theirs is certainly a complicated relationship, that's for sure.

And then Spike's looking right at him and he curses under his breath for letting Spike find him here. He was only hanging around to make sure Spike didn't start chomping on Garcia, or any of the other people he's seen him chatting to inside. He wasn't planning on actually tackling him out here.

Or was he?

Whatever the case, it's too late now. Spike knows he's here, so he takes a breath and then ambles out of the shadows, as cool and laid-back as he can, with the stake plainly in view in his lowered hand.]

Behaving yourself tonight, then, Spike? Or is it just than none of them were appetizing enough?

[ If only Jack knew that Garcia had already offered her sweet, rich blood back in the other prison where he was even more harmless than when he was chipped. Slit her own wrist and everything. Maybe it's not the hunter that is the cause for concern here, but rather the prey.

His eyes drop to the stake briefly before darting up to Jack's face, a smug smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. Not too concerned here. Life would be all too dull without some stake-happy adversary around... or whatever he could call the man. It's difficult to define. ]

Why Jack... you wound me. [ An overly dramatic gesture, hand placed over his un-beating heart as if he's about to get the vapours. ] You really think I'm that kind of monster?

[ Of course he is. Exactly that kind. ]

[Yeah, Jack has no idea about that, though if he thought about it, knowing Garcia and her wonderful warm heart, he wouldn't be that surprised. Still wouldn't stop him wanting to protect her, though.

He gives Spike a dark look.]
I know you are, Spike. I have first hand experience of it, remember?

As I recall... [ He starts with an arrogant drawl, body slung in the swagger of someone who believes himself to hold an ace or two on hand as he steps in a little bit closer. Bad life decisions could be his middle-name, but isn't. ]

...you sure seemed to enjoy yourself that night. [ A very pointed glance downwards. ]

[He refuses to give ground to Spike, so that little manouevre ends with them far too close for Jack's comfort and a very definite stirring down where Spike's directing his gaze (not that he'll be able to see it past the shadow of his coat - he hopes). He sets his jaw a little more firmly.]

I enjoy a lot of things I shouldn't, Spike. But that's not the point. That doesn't make it okay for you to go round chowing down on people against their will! Or was it just me, because you knew I'd get up again?

</small>[And - perhaps - because he'd already made it very clear he wasn't entirely against the idea. He doesn't say that part out loud, though. He knows he doesn't have to.]</small>

[ Tilting his head back up, Spike smirks in Jack's face. Draws out on the response, because he can. He's always enjoyed adding a little flair to the tension — nothing like Angelus of course, the great big theatrical poof, but there's a lot to say about a dramatic entrance or keeping up appearances. Psychological warfare of sorts and without the Slayer to goad on he'll just have to take the second best thing. ]

Don't flatter yourself... you're not the only one I've sunk my fangs into. [ There was that Mystic Falls jock too, the night after their rendevouz. Whether he stayed dead or not, Spike doesn't know. He sure hasn't seen him since. ]

If you're here to kill me, you better know just where to hit.

[Jack smirks, looking him over with a lazy eye. Spike’s not the only one fond of a bit of dramatic flair. He has the coat, after all, and he’s certainly not above laying things on a bit thick just for the fun of it.]

Oh, I know where to hit, Spike. [Though whether he could bring himself to do it is another matter. Posturing with Spike is far too much fun to give up easily, plus there’s the looking-like-John thing, even if he’s mostly got used to Spike as a separate entity than John now.]

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to, though. [Shifting his grip on the stake, and cocking an eyebrow.] Why don’t you tell me who else you’ve been getting fangy with? Most importantly, did they get up again?

Now, now... isn't that a bit personal? I'm not prodding around in your private life, after all... although I could.

[ Yes, he knows about Ianto. Yes, this is a subtle threat. Maybe he hasn't spoken to the man yet but recon is one of the things Spike values highly, surprising as that can be. He's seen them around. He knows enough to know just where to press, should the need arise. ]

But alright, I suppose I can indulge... it was some bloke. Didn't exactly stop to ask for his name. [ Matt Donovan of Mystic Falls. ] I'll tell you this, though... I haven't seen him around since that night.

[Jack’s chin goes up and his eyes narrow, gaze tightening on Spike’s in response to what is definitely a threat. It’s… not a threat he’s thought to be wary of, really. This thing with Ianto – or at least the intensity of it – is so new he hasn’t really thought of it in terms of something he might lose here, as well as in the outside world.

It’s a bit of an eye-opener, to be honest, and it makes him stiffen up discernibly.]
Oh, let’s not go round making threats, Spike. [Voice low, tone warning.] I’m not the only one with a significant other these days, after all. And I can get very defensive when the people I care about are threatened.

So… only one other, then? And you didn’t get called up for murder by the wardens either time?

[He had wondered if that would happen after Spike killed him, but apparently the fact that he got back up again good as new meant they somehow didn’t see it as a crime, but this other ‘bloke’… Maybe he just happened to ‘get lost in the dimensional stabilizer’ at a convenient time.]

Sure... but my girl can take care of herself. She'd probably snap your neck before you even have time to blink. Can you say the same about yours..?

[ No, he's not worried about Rose. He's more worried about what Rose might do to him should she find out what kind of trouble he's causing. Always the humanitarian, that one. ]

Maybe they don't care as much as you think. [ Little shrug. ] Maybe they think I had the right to a proper meal.

[He's not actually that sure that Ianto could take Spike, of course, and he's definitely going to be warning Ianto to keep a careful watch out – well, except he's actually going to have to tell Ianto what happened with Spike first, because he hasn't yet. Surprisingly, that didn't come rushing out along with all the other revelations that day at the therapy session.

But that's a thought for later. Right now, he's focussed on Spike, and on trying to work out how to take care of the problem he represents. He doesn't know Rose well enough, unfortunately, to sense that he might have an ally there in bringing Spike into line, so he decides on a different angle.

He steps right back in again, using his height and bulk to physically crowd Spike back.]

Maybe you do have the right to an occasional meal, Spike. But only from the willing – and no killing anyone else who won't get back up again! I'm going to assume the wardens have a decent reason for not hauling you over the coals for this one random guy, but I hear you've been killing again and I am going to bring the whole fucking Defence Force down on your ass. Understand?

((OOC: Gah, so sorry for the long absence! I did expect to tag at least a bit last week, but my brain just wouldn't give me anything here! Still, I'm back now!))

The Defense Force, huh... I'm shaking. [ More like rolling his eyes before locking them on Jack again. ] Bring it on. The nazis couldn't keep me down, I'm pretty sure your group of boy scouts wouldn't fare much better.

[ He'd welcome the challenge, to be honest. Even more so now with Buffy gone. ]

[Jack meets both gaze and taunt head on, one eyebrow lifting lazily.]

I think you’re forgetting, though, Spike, that the Nazis didn’t have the advantage of already having you trapped in a prison you absolutely can’t escape. And there’s quite a few of us in the DF. How long do you think you can hide from all of us?

Ah, Jackie-boy... that's where you're mistaken. [ He lets his voice drop to a low predatorial purr. Way to say just the right thing. He's been playing nice so far but with Buffy's departure he has little reason to and Jack just hit the buttons needed to bring him back to how it's supposed to be. Blood and fire, death and ruin. That's what he is, with or without Dru by his side.

He's a monster. Not a man. Buffy was wrong. ]

The question is how long you lot can hide from me.

[Okaaay. He’d honestly thought they were just playing here. He wasn’t, after all, particularly bothered by Spike killing him because it wasn’t permanent and, frankly, didn’t rate at all high on his list of ‘worst ways to die’, and besides, he figured better him than almost anyone else here. He didn’t actually think Spike really posed a real threat to anyone else.

But apparently he was wrong. What Spike’s just said has a definite ring of very real threat to it.

He goes still, eyes searching Spike’s face for evidence that he really means it, that this isn’t just one more jibe, another attempt to get a reaction out of him.

He’s fairly sure it’s not.

He folds his arms across his chest, regarding Spike coolly. In a way, this is easier than trading barbs for fun. Playing the leader of the good guys facing down a threat is a role far simpler and less open to confusion.]

And why, exactly, would we be hiding from you, Spike?

[ This may have escalated further and faster than he intended for it to do, but it's no joke. He's sick and tired of not being taken seriously, even more so with being lumped in with the sorry, be-souled excuses for vampires they've got in this joint. He's tired of being seen as a non-threat, as the puppy who doesn't chase cars anymore, the Big Bad that lost his edge. Whether it's the chip or his future self or the current reputation he's got around here, it's leaving a bad taste in his mouth.

It's about time they find out what he's really about. William the Bloody. The Slayer of Slayers. The Big Bad.

He meets that cool look with a smirk, head cocked playfully to the side as he reaches out to pat Jack on the arm. Deceptively friendly. ]

Why don't you give that a good think? I'm sure you can work it out. [ And with that he takes a step to the side, just about ready to leave. ]

[Jack lets him go. It's hard – it's incredibly hard – but it's the only way to play this. He needs time to think, to do some reconnaissance, to work out what's going on with Spike, what's sparked this odd little rebellion (as he sees it). He needs to determine whether Spike really is a serious threat here or not. And that'll be easier to do out of sight, watching Spike with others who aren't him, to find out if this is just a show put on for him or whether it's actually real.

So, uncharacteristically, he reigns himself in and clenches his jaw tight shut as he moves aside to let Spike pass. He watches him till he's out of sight, and then he sets off for home. He's kept Ianto waiting quite long enough.]
