day 245 [ video | backdated | open ]
While many who knew her are already aware, it nonetheless seems prudent to inform the populace at large that Seven of Nine is no longer present in the facility. It is likely that she had a number of acquaintances, outside those with which I am familiar, for whom this information would be relevant.

[ And if you happen to be acquainted with Data as he is in the facility, you may notice something missing in his words. Those from the Enterprise crew could likely tell you exactly what it is, as his speech has reverted to the perfectly even, controlled tones they knew well for so many years. ]

I am sorry that I must bear this news. Her absence will be noted.

[ ooc: hey marinades, I'm on hiatus this month so forgive the lateness of this post and any slowtagging that may ensue ]

[ It is a good thing someone's emotion chip is not on right now - though, of course, he's really just delaying his responses instead of actually avoiding them. ]

I have been given the impression that hope is not dependent on likelihood. Many seem to believe that the act of 'hoping' should be sustained in spite of a relatively small chance of those hopes being realized.

[ But he does arch a brow. ]

However, may I ask you to elaborate?

It's not in any official records... yet. [ So the fact that he's even mentioning this means he trusts you to keep it on the low, low down. ]

I have a theory that the prison is actually a form of virtual reality.

[ The implication is clear. Needless to say, he won't be filing that with the rest of the information he's setting up in the database. ]

An intriguing theory. It would have the potential to explain a number of curious occurrences which I have observed during my time in the facility.

That's what I'm thinking... it hadn't really occurred to me before the transfer to Squall, but now I can't think of any other explanation for what's been happening here. Even more so taking the events of the previous prison into account.

Though I am only familiar with the previous prison through reports rather than firsthand experience, it would account for the discrepancies noted among the population as we were transferred.

[ He pauses, considering it. It's a troubling prospect in its own right, something he can recognize intellectually even without the emotions to go with it. At the same time, it gives an alternate theory to investigate. ]

I would be curious to explore this theory further.

Rebecca has some experience with advanced virtual reality... we had some ideas we'd like to test, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Mainly we'd like to set up a virtual reality session to see if there's any way to break it from within... if that's possible, then maybe we can do something similar with this system.

I'm sure your help would be invaluable.

It is a most challenging prospect, and a daunting theory to test in that a lack of success would not necessarily be indicative of a flawed theory.

[ That might sound defeatist otherwise, except it's coming from Data. ]

I would be pleased to assist in any way which is possible.

[ Pointing out the challenge is never a bad thing in Reid's book. You need to lay out the facts or you'll never be able to see a solution. ]

Great. I'll talk to Rebecca and see if we can't set something up... it's a start, at least.
