day 245 [ video | backdated | open ]
While many who knew her are already aware, it nonetheless seems prudent to inform the populace at large that Seven of Nine is no longer present in the facility. It is likely that she had a number of acquaintances, outside those with which I am familiar, for whom this information would be relevant.

[ And if you happen to be acquainted with Data as he is in the facility, you may notice something missing in his words. Those from the Enterprise crew could likely tell you exactly what it is, as his speech has reverted to the perfectly even, controlled tones they knew well for so many years. ]

I am sorry that I must bear this news. Her absence will be noted.

[ ooc: hey marinades, I'm on hiatus this month so forgive the lateness of this post and any slowtagging that may ensue ]

[The change is instant and, though expected, jarring to Geordi. Not because he's caught off-guard; seeing Data in pain simply affects him like a sudden, sharp cut. A clean one, even as its made he can tell it won't fester, but the sting is very real.]

[His coffee cup already down in anticipation, Geordi reaches up to grip Data's shoulder and hold it. Steady in the face of the proverbial vertigo he knows Data must have.]
Yeah. [There's a lot in that one word. Sympathy, understanding, the implicit offer of anything and everything that Data might need now. Data would likely recognize the tone even without his emotion chip -- with it active, it should be unmistakeable.]

[And Geordi is, distantly, glad. Proud of his friend for loving someone this much, such a very human feeling that had been his fondest dream for so long. Data had never been lacking or incomplete, but nonetheless, now he is more.]

[Thanks Seven, he thinks, wherever you are, thanks. I hope you know what you've done for him, and I hope he did it for you too.]

[ The tone is immediately identified; it's interesting how the combination of that and the simple feeling of his friend's hand on his shoulder affects the onslaught of emotion. Through the incessant hyperactivity of his neural transmitters, the blur of information in his matrix, there is something to ground him. It's remarkable how effective it is, and for a moment Data wonders what that sort of comforting grasp would feel like if he were able to process tactile information as a human would. It's hard not to, after his experience with the Borg - something Geordi, of course, doesn't yet know about.

It is not surprising when he finds himself producing tears - not unlike a human crying, it does provide a release for emotion beyond a certain threshold. ]

I... miss her.

[ He shakes his head, a small motion, and pauses. ]

There are other individuals whose absence I feel, retrospectively, however... processing a loss in the immediate aftermath is a distinctly separate experience.
