day 245 [ video | backdated | open ]
While many who knew her are already aware, it nonetheless seems prudent to inform the populace at large that Seven of Nine is no longer present in the facility. It is likely that she had a number of acquaintances, outside those with which I am familiar, for whom this information would be relevant.

[ And if you happen to be acquainted with Data as he is in the facility, you may notice something missing in his words. Those from the Enterprise crew could likely tell you exactly what it is, as his speech has reverted to the perfectly even, controlled tones they knew well for so many years. ]

I am sorry that I must bear this news. Her absence will be noted.

[ ooc: hey marinades, I'm on hiatus this month so forgive the lateness of this post and any slowtagging that may ensue ]

Yes, sir... she is.

[ The chip may be off, but he knows how he felt before he turned it off - how he'll undoubtedly feel when he turns it back on. But it was off for good reason, initially - he couldn't be distracted. ]

I need to thank you, Data, for what you did. It would seem that you have... rescued me yet again.

[ And thankfully this time he's alive in the aftermath. ]

Sir, I am certain that you are aware that it is not necessary for you to thank me.

However, I am... pleased that you are well.

[ It's genuine - the hesitation is due only to the lack of actual emotion in his current state of being "pleased". ]

I am fully aware, Mr. Data. Nevertheless.

I must say that now I've cause to be concerned over your well-being.

[ There is a small nod there - if somewhat slow, hesitant. ]

I had initially deactivated my emotion chip to prevent distraction. Though I do intend to reactivate it, I must admit that I am somewhat concerned about my ability to process and successfully integrate the particularly intense emotional responses which it had been producing.

Perhaps you should reactivate the chip while among friends. That way we can help you to work through these emotions of which we're... quite familiar with.

A wise suggestion, sir. I do not believe that the emotional intensity is likely to overload my neural net at this point, but I am not certain of how to successfully cope with such emotion - to move past it.

Of course it will take some time. And I'm afraid that there are some absences that stay with us no matter how much time we put between them and us. [ He doesn't expect to get over Data's absence back home anytime soon. ] But we continue to move forward because we must. Because it is what those we love and consider family would wish for us to do. You will mourn her loss, Data. But you must not remain stagnate in it. Seven would not wish that for you. None of us would.

I believe I understand, sir.

[ A small nod, there. If only he knew what was on the Captain's mind with regards to loss... though he's no shortage of his own ]

There are certainly others whose absence I feel, retrospectively, however... I did not have my emotion chip at the time of any initial loss. It would seem that experiencing it as it occurs produces a considerably different emotional response than that produced by m accessing my memories.
