day 245 [ video | backdated | open ]
While many who knew her are already aware, it nonetheless seems prudent to inform the populace at large that Seven of Nine is no longer present in the facility. It is likely that she had a number of acquaintances, outside those with which I am familiar, for whom this information would be relevant.

[ And if you happen to be acquainted with Data as he is in the facility, you may notice something missing in his words. Those from the Enterprise crew could likely tell you exactly what it is, as his speech has reverted to the perfectly even, controlled tones they knew well for so many years. ]

I am sorry that I must bear this news. Her absence will be noted.

[ ooc: hey marinades, I'm on hiatus this month so forgive the lateness of this post and any slowtagging that may ensue ]

So there’s a chance she will, as well. I certainly hope so. I enjoyed our conversations, few though they were.

While I would hope for her to return to the facility, the ideal outcome would be that she were returned to her rightful place.

Either, clearly, would be far preferable to being lost in the dimensional stabilizer.

Then let us hope that she is returned somewhere other than the stabilizer. No one deserves that fate.

Are you all right?

No, I do not believe that anyone does.

[ He knows he's not all right, even if he can't actually feel the emotional distress right now, he knows that it will be there when he allows himself to experience emotion again. ]

I am at present, yes.

[ That's true, at least. ]

[ she pauses for a moment, uncertain what to offer now. ]

I do hope if there's anything I can do to help [ this situation or anything in the future ] you will let me know. I should also thank you for your help regarding Jean-Luc. I don't know what I would've done without all of you.

[ and thus she opens up a can of worms. ]

The offer is most appreciated, though I am uncertain as to what can be done.

[ And his head tilts slightly, a small nod punctuating the motion. ]

No thanks are necessary - it is our duty to safeguard the wellbeing of the Captain. I also consider him to be a friend and mentor in addition to my commanding officer.

[ The can of is open. Just you wait. ]

It is gratifying to know that he has someone who cares for him here beyond the crewmembers present.

[ she nods, understanding that sentiment. ]

How fortunate that you all have such a tight-knit group here. [ what she wouldn't do for a member of her sanctuary family. she misses them all so desperately. ] And what a good one of each he would make.

[ she's ignoring that can. probably won't last long, will it? especially as she isn't entirely certain how to answer that last statement. ]

I've had the pleasure of getting to know him and I would certainly doubt anyone who does know him would be willing to let something happen.

[ or that could just be her. she has a stigma against losing people she's close to, after all. ]

The Captain is indeed generally well-respected and well-liked by those who are given the opportunity to know him personally. Any of the crew here, or back on the Enterprise, would willingly place themselves in danger to assist him if needed. Regardless of personal motivation, it is our duty as Starfleet officers.

[ Which is why this is so curious to him; not that he doesn't understand it, really, but because the way humans act based on their relationships with one another is fascinating. ]

Your actions most certainly placed you in danger for the sake of ensuring his safety, which is considered to be one of the most notable and noble choices a person can make.

[ the phrase given the opportunity to know him personally really drives home the realization that what she shares with jean-luc is special and rare. whatever they are to each other, it should not be ignored. it's his observation about her actions that beings a slight reddish tint to her cheeks. she'd known she wouldn't be able to keep her feelings for jean-luc secret much longer after what she'd been willing to do to get him back, so she isn't particularly surprised that data picked up on it. she is surprised, however, by his observation and the words he chooses to put to that observation. ]

He is an important person and I would rather see him happy than controlled by another as he was. [ people in love do crazy things. not that she wants to admit to that just yet. ] It's far from the most dangerous thing I've ever had to do for someone.

[ just because she was brushing off her role in everything didn't mean she took it any less seriously. she knows what she'd done, what she'd been willing to do had it come down to it, and she's only glad that they managed to bring jean-luc back to himself. at this point, that's all that matter. ]

[ He nods, taking that in. It would seem to indicate that she her actions are generally noble and self-sacrificing, though the regularity her reference seems to carry is somewhat concerning. Of course, as a Starfleet officer - and as one who's in the line of danger perhaps (certainly, actually) more often than most, there is little he can say on that. ]

I do not believe that other actions you have previously taken detract from the admirability of any others.

[ noble and self-sacrificing, oh yes. helen has had to sacrifice so much for the lives of the many and it's taken a huge toll on her. those 113 years of seclusion that she'd spent living another person's life and watching all of her actions and mistakes play out a second time had changed her, turned her into a lonely and bitter old woman. jean-luc is only just scratching the surface of who she is and he arguably knows her best.

data's comment brings the smallest of smiles to her face. it's a nice compliment, especially given the circumstances. ]
In this case, I could hardly stand by while a friend was in need of my help.

[ a "friend," yes. a friend whom she's kissed and with whom she shares a romantic attraction. ]

[ Data just nods there; anything he's picked up on doesn't need to be shared explicitly. He does at least have some sense of that, these days. And as to the sentiment, well - ]

That is a feeling which I believe I find most understandable.

[ she has no idea how obvious she's been regarding her feelings towards jean-luc. or rather, she's been ignoring how obvious she's been, though she really doesn't know how obvious or not he has been regarding whatever he may or may not be feeling towards her. ]

It seems you and I have quite a lot in common. [ including certain friends. ]

[ He manages a small smile there - polite, despite the lack of emotion behind it, the kind of smile that used to help him through interaction when he lacked such understanding. ]

I believe I will consider that to be a compliment; Thank you.

As it was intended.

[ but if there's nothing else he needs of her, she has little else to say. she does hope if he does have need of her help in the future, he will say something and allow her to try. ]
