Evening 241 } Action } Open Mingle
[ As mentioned by the wardens yesterday, Eric is hosting a costume party. The Blood Shack is lit by candles for the evening (he remembers the last party he had being interrupted by a power outage) and a small buffet of sorts has been erected. It furnishes mostly hors d'oeuvre and finer foods, things that Caroline picked out as Eric hasn't a clue about human food.

There is blood on tap (naturally) as well as a full bar. Eric has made certain to include water, sodas, tea and various non-alcoholic drinks.

The jukebox is playing a variety of music, but patrons are always invited to pick out their own music. The dance floor has a disco ball and there's the ever present 'dancing' pole on stage if someone gets brave. Tables are scattered about as are sofas and chairs so that people have a choice where they sit.

Enjoy yourself, mix, mingle and admire everyone's costume and everyone is required to have a costume in order to be here. ]

I would imagine those in your world enjoyed it as much as the ones here seem to be.

It's difficult, you know, being old for a human and knowing someday you'll outlive everyone. [ has she had the longevity discussion with him yet? she doesn't recall it. whoops. here, have a bombshell, eric. ]

I should like to think so. They seem to anyway.

[ Eric listens, one eyebrow raising. He didn't know that Helen was 'old' for a human. He had realized there was something different about her though. He'd gathered that much from the way she spoke. ]

I can imagine. [ He struggles with this with Sookie. He knows that he will outlive her by hundreds of years. He does have some hope that eventually she'll come around and allow him to change her, but for the moment, he's content to let her make that decision and he knows that her decision is to stay human. It bothers him more than he'd like.]

[ there are days where she acts like she carries the world on her shoulders alone. today is definitely one of those days. at least eric has the option of changing the one he loves. helen doesn't even have that. in time, she knows she will lose the people she cares for and if she hasn't already lost jean-luc, she will someday anyway to death or the whims of the prison. she hates that, hates the idea that she's become so dependent on his presence that she doesn't know what to do with him not being around. perhaps it's because the whole situation smells so strongly of john or perhaps it's because of that one little word she refuses to acknowledge yet, is too afraid to admit might exist between them.

or once had. she has no idea if it does now or not. ]

When you grow used to lose everyone around you to age or circumstance, you become accustomed to living life alone.

[ or at least she has. rebekah is apparently different and she wonders if eric is different as well. she's giving him a chance to pry a little more information out of her if he wants. while she doesn't want to bore him, she also isn't in the habit of spilling her emotions to everyone, even people she's very close to. ]

I know what it's like to look at a stretch of eternity and fear spending it alone. [ It was one of the reasons he created Pam. ] You might find this rude, and the moment may not be opportune, but might I ask what are you?

[ Eric really isn't that different from Helen. The only person he allowed in his life, the only person he allowed close was Pam until Sookie came along and Sookie hadn't given him a choice. Once he had seen her, her light--not the vampire killing one--her smile, he couldn't not have her in his life. Falling in love with Sookie hadn't been a choice. If it had, he wouldn't have chosen it. ]

[ at this point, questions might actually get her closer to the actual issue than she would normally go herself. she had a habit of dancing around difficult topics and this was proving no different than anything else.

his question actually brings a bit of interest to her expression. she's hardly offended. at this point, her longevity is hardly a secret. she just has to decide if she wants to give eric the age she should be or her true age. ]

Human. Entirely human. I have a genetic Abnormality, a mutation in my DNA that gives me longevity, extended life. We've no idea how long it will last but so far it's given me nearly 300 years. I'm hardly invincible, though, and my world seems to love reminding me of that.

[ but it also means that she can't turn anyone. the only person left who will live anywhere near as long as she will is nikola and he's no longer in the dome, so that option is gone. here she's fallen for jean-luc, a human and very mortal man, someone who isn't himself now and whom she fears she might already have lost. ]

I've no idea. I would imagine so, but it's extremely slow. For all I know, I might never age fully or it could be tomorrow.

I did. For a time. [ she's focusing on her hands and the interesting faces and costumes around them, everywhere but the person she's speaking to so she doesn't have to see his reactions. it's easier for her. ] But somehow there's always that one person who sneaks under your guard.

[ his agreement and understanding are what finally draw her attention to him again. it's as though he understands her, even more than rebekah does, as though eric views the world more in line with the way helen does and that the idea of an eternity alone is both expected and feared. her eyes search his for a moment as she debates how much to open up to him. ]

He's here. But as far as I can tell we're from completely different worlds. [ and time periods. that will be the big test factor. ] We haven't even discussed a relationship of any sort and yet something's changed between the last few times I saw him.

[ she lapses into silence after that, returning her gaze to the crowd below, though not really seeing anyone, her mind too focused on jean-luc and the ever-present debate of whether or not she's lost him and whether or not she can handle losing him. ]

Perhaps both. I've been giving him space so he can come to terms with... whatever it is [ fight off locutus, deal with being a walking drone again until seven can come up with a way to save jean-luc again. ], but it's been difficult.

[ she gives a short, derisive laugh at herself. ] Listen to me, prattling on like a love-sick adolescent.
