Evening 241 } Action } Open Mingle
[ As mentioned by the wardens yesterday, Eric is hosting a costume party. The Blood Shack is lit by candles for the evening (he remembers the last party he had being interrupted by a power outage) and a small buffet of sorts has been erected. It furnishes mostly hors d'oeuvre and finer foods, things that Caroline picked out as Eric hasn't a clue about human food.

There is blood on tap (naturally) as well as a full bar. Eric has made certain to include water, sodas, tea and various non-alcoholic drinks.

The jukebox is playing a variety of music, but patrons are always invited to pick out their own music. The dance floor has a disco ball and there's the ever present 'dancing' pole on stage if someone gets brave. Tables are scattered about as are sofas and chairs so that people have a choice where they sit.

Enjoy yourself, mix, mingle and admire everyone's costume and everyone is required to have a costume in order to be here. ]

[ totally normal and particularly sam-like response. also a relief for elena too. still, she watches his expression a moment longer for any sign -- any sign of him hating her, hating what she is. she relaxes, exhales inaudibly, her features softening when it doesn't come. it doesn't, and it's sam.

right. her outfit. she glances down at it and almost smiles. ] Caroline insisted on it. [ she takes in his suit, the badge. (he does look dapper.) ] FBI agent?

[ "people." for a moment she thinks he's worried about them because of her. she's not sure if she's relieved or not when he asks. her fingers trail around the drink in her hands, collecting the condensation. it's part of how she holds it together, or how caroline thinks they do: the drinking. ] Good. [ wouldn't it? elena says nothing at first, because she's not entirely sure herself. some days she's thought she's not so different at all past the hunger, past the emotions threatening to explode out of her. not so different because the girl she is and was is still present, still here, strained and struggling but here. not so different because these urges, these feelings; they've been here all along, buried and tempered and now brought to life.

the added bloodlust is just a reflection of that.

she says nothing, tucks hair behind her ear, and looks to the ground. ] More. [ her desires, her grief, frustration and anger -- it's all more. she places her cup down and moves closer, licks her lips; this conversation is a bit private. she looks up at sam. ] I want... more, I feel more. Everything can be so vivid and intense. Overwhelming. I can feel... out of control and powerful all at once and there's a part of me that wants not to care. [ to take what she wants. blood. it's all she thinks about. ]

["More" is something he can understand. There was something in his own blood drinking that felt that way. Everything was heightened. And there was power. So much power.]

The other part is stronger. The part that will always care. [He says it in part because he believes it, but maybe in larger part because he wants her to believe it and fight for it. Caring maybe the only thing that keeps her Elena.]

It's not by choice. [ she thinks of stefan, how lexi had to keep him locked for decades... sam's right; objectively no one would want to invite all that in again. but elena believes there are reasons, exceptions. love. ] Not always. Emotions are... heightened when you're a vampire. Sometimes you can't help but feel them, if they're strong enough. Important enough.
