day 241 | voice/action
[Arriving at a strange place isn't new to Catherine Halsey. Her life has been full of odd occurrences and this shouldn't be any different. But it is, more mysterious than anything else she's been through. Prison? Again. Not rightfully so; hasn't she served her time? Hasn't she suffered enough, properly atoned without being put in a jumpsuit?]

This isn't the chain gang...

[It's muttered as she fumbles with the device, starting up a voice communication.]

To anyone who is listening: An explanation would be helpful, something more relevant than what I've received, a detailing of events and the essence of this situation. Additionally... [She pauses.] ...if anyone is near gardens and a series of greenhouses, I require physical assistance as well.

[Because newly arrived, stolen away only minutes after her life-saving amputation, she is now stuck in a greenhouse with a rather stubborn door.

At least the view is nice...?]

[...She will be surprised that she's one of the oldest inmates, then.]

There sectors... are they themed, districts of the larger whole? I'll avoid the dinosaurs altogether until I have my feet, assuming they're contained.

[She has a million questions, but she'll ask one at a time.]

[It should make the next dating auction interesting. If there is a next dating auction.]

Themed? Well, kind of maybe. Sector 6 is like action, adventure safari jungle land! And...sector 2 kind of has the more learny, [yes, learny] modern stuff I guess. [The fall in his voice may accurately depict how he feels about the awesome of sector 6 versus the learny of sector 2.]

Mm, but the dinosaurs and everything should be contained in sector 6. They only got out once in this prison! [Which as far as he is concerned is a great track record.] And that wasn't even them. It was this thing that was like a hyena and a wasp and another big rolly thing. [No, really, it was big and it rolled and kind of defied explanation.]

[Children. She's... just so bad with children. She failed at raising her own, and the Spartans? She refused to coddle them despite feeling deep and abiding affection for all of the above. Just... so difficult to deal with, even as teenagers.]

Incidents involving large creatures attacking us. I thought this was a rehabilitation facility, not a zoo. It seems our captors have a sense of humor, or irony at the very least.

Veri does. I'm not sure about Conni. [Someone likes nicknames, especially for complicated names like Veridical and Conscienti.] He sounds more like a computer. Or more like how you think a computer would sound. They're both computers.

This place is pretty surprising all of the time, but it isn't always dangerous like that. Don't worry! [It's okay, he'll reassure you!]

[Oh holy night this can't end too well. Nicknames.]

Those are the ones holding us here? I'd thought... [Well, maybe she heard wrong. Still, she's interested in those computers, and she'll realize that once she's settled in.]

I'd like more information on past occurrences, in that case.

All of them? At once? [Voice lowering, but not so much it can't be heard.] But you barely believed the dinosaurs.

The first prison we were in was just called Marina without the Nova part. And then this was the second and fourth prisons I guess because we were also in Squall Asylum for two days when the giant octosquid cracked the dome. [It wasn't an octosquid. He just never figured out if it was an octopus or a squid.]

I'm a scientist. I like to know precisely what a situation is in as great detail as possible.

[But she listens to his explanation with growing distaste.] Multiple iterations? How did prisoners move from one to the next?

Well... [What a good question.] We just did. I mean, we didn't pack or actually leave on submarines or anything. We just fell asleep or something and when we woke up we were somewhere else.

Not that I always remember going to sleep first...

Kind of like how you just got here now. It's weird, isn't it?

I imagined it was some sort of teleportation, but with that evidence, I can't be sure. It sounds as though it's something supernatural. [Which she does not approve of.]

Very unusual.

You mean like magic? It would take a lot of magic to do something like this.

Not precisely magic, but definitely something beyond our understanding.

Magic would probably be easier to figure out.

Because there are lot of people here who know about magic. Or some at least. There used to be more.

[WELL. THAT'S NICE. Not.]

And they've gone? Do people comne and go frequently?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Things happen!

Oh, well, sometimes. It isn't like we get to choose to go or anything, but then sometimes you wake up and the people you expect to be around...aren't.
