[ day 239 ] action / voice :: open
[ In the dome in the morning ]

[ Jean-Luc, normally a very vibrant individual, normally a man with a mission and a purpose, no matter what that purpose might be, is standing very still in the middle of the dome. He’s in sector zero. Near the kiosk. Studying it with intense scrutiny, too still for any normal human being. ]

[ private to Helen ]

Doctor Magnus, I’m afraid I find it necessary to postpone tea. Perhaps we can meet tomorrow?

[ private to Trek crew ]

Is anyone…? [ There’s a moment of hesitation here, abnormal for this Captain on a normal day. He clears his throat and seems to come into himself, more stern and self-assured. ] Report.

ooc: Part 2 of the Locutus plot. The Trek muns know that Locutus is peeking into Picard’s consciousness. But anyone else who runs into him, he won’t be acting quite like himself!

That hasn't been tried yet. I'll admit to having been somewhat stubborn in this instance.

It feels as if... [ He tries to find a way of saying what he wants to say without admitting to the truth of what's happening. His voice even lowers in volume just a hair. ] Something turned on. I feel it... ticking inside. Geordi, it's as if --... [ Again, he goes silent, trailing off without completing his thought. ]

[Despite his rising alarm, Geordi's training lets him remain calm. It would be better if they had access to any number of things on the Enterprise, namely Sick Bay and about fifteen kinds of scanners and sensors, but that's not going to stop them from handling whatever this is.]

Okay, Captain. Why don't we get you set up somewhere and we can run some tests? Find out what's going on. Between all of us we'll figure out whatever's turned on and how to turn it back off again.

Is there anything else? Is it a familiar sensation at all? [He's probably just being paranoid, but it seems like a question he has to ask.]

[ Geordi can't see it. But he shook his head in answer to those last questions. He can feel himself slipping away. And much of his attention is diverted toward fighting it. ]

Somewhere safe. [ Just two words, but they sound distant, as if he isn't completely alert or paying attention. ] Such as?

Of course, somewhere safe. Maybe either our apartment, or the clinic? [Geordi knows very little about Helen's relationship with Picard, other than they know each other, still it's enough to suggest it as a possible safe haven.]

We'll figure this out, Captain. [Yes he's already said that, but it feels like reassurance can only be a good thing.]

[ There's a moment where Jean-Luc sighs, not out of frustration, but perhaps in response to Geordi's reassurances. There's a moment where he does indeed feel those reassurances full force.

That moment doesn't last.
] Irrelevant. Resistance is futile.

[Definitely not the thing he wanted to hear. It would be easy to react viscerally to hearing a very much Borg comment coming from the Captain, but Geordi has another idea.]

[He can't -- at least, not yet -- change what's happening to Captain Picard. But maybe he can appeal to the part of him that's still himself? It's worth a shot.]

...Hey Captain, you know what I was thinking about the other day? Commander Riker's poker games and how we should maybe start one here, once you're feeling better. I bet everyone will be amazed at how good a bluff you have.
