[ Jean-Luc, normally a very vibrant individual, normally a man with a mission and a purpose, no matter what that purpose might be, is standing very still in the middle of the dome. He’s in sector zero. Near the kiosk. Studying it with intense scrutiny, too still for any normal human being. ]

Doctor Magnus, I’m afraid I find it necessary to postpone tea. Perhaps we can meet tomorrow?

[ private to Trek crew ]

Is anyone…? [ There’s a moment of hesitation here, abnormal for this Captain on a normal day. He clears his throat and seems to come into himself, more stern and self-assured. ] Report.

ooc: Part 2 of the Locutus plot. The Trek muns know that Locutus is peeking into Picard’s consciousness. But anyone else who runs into him, he won’t be acting quite like himself!

her frown increases, not that he can see. ]

All the more reason I should come see how you're doing. [ she can't imagine what might be causing such a difference in him or why he wouldn't want to see her after their recent conversations and the happenings between them. ]

Unacceptable. [ A word said in so mechanical and detached a fashion that it couldn't have been Jean-Luc. Could it? ]

I mean... [ He pauses, hesitating. He's properly out of sorts, he can tell. And he isn't quite certain what is causing it. But what if Helen thought less of him? What if he somehow hurt her? His own stubborn pride had him attempting to thwart her efforts in spite of the fact that he knew something was very, very wrong. ] I'm certain it will pass.

[Mal was heading to sector 2 for his morning ride. As he walked through sector 0, he noticed a man standing by the kiosk. Something was off. Best to keep on walking in Mal's experience. Don't bother the person standing still...]

[But he was curious gorrammit. With a grumble, Mal changed his direction to the kiosk instead.]

It don't move no matter how much you stare at it.

[ Jean-Luc blinked, as if snapping out of a trance. He inhaled a deep breath as if in standing still he had forgotten to breathe. And then he realized what had pulled him out of whatever had been happening just now.

He doesn't quite have himself completely together when he looks to the other man and nods half-heartedly. ] Yes, I suppose you're correct.

[ He looks down to his arm, stretching his fingers out as if looking for an appendage that isn't there, something that could have connected with the kiosk to acquire all the information about the prison, something from his nightmares. ]

[ It's probably good that Mal steps out of arms reach. Jean-Luc's mind flashes with an image of him reeling around and grabbing him by the throat. Immediately, he shakes his head and comes out of that image. It's as if he's fractured, two different people jockeying for control. Because Jean-Luc himself would never do that unless provoked and fighting in self-defense. ]

No. [ That first 'no' is strained, almost mechanical. He clears his throat and tugs tightly on the top of his uniform to work out any wrinkles. And the second no has more of himself to it. ] No, I... deep in thought. I'm afraid I'm not feeling quite like myself right now. But I do understand that introductions are an order. Of course he hasn't said anything - not yet - but there is still the concern that had been expressed to him previously. It may become necessary to breach that order soon - under one of the only circumstances that protocol would allow him to do so. ]

[She hasn't known Picard long, but something in the way he pauses concerns her. Call it intuition; or perhaps, merely experience in listening to what is not said.]

Sir, [she answers simply, briskly. She might be vaguely, uncertainly concerned, but she's not voicing it.] Nothing of note to report.

[There's an answering pause, but she's not sure what she wants to ask much less how to phrase it, so she leaves it at that.]

[ seven feels... off somehow. it's a strange sort of off-kilter, as whatever it is -- she can't quite put her finger on it -- feels both familiar, yet not. like there's something lingering somewhere... it's difficult to put words to what she's feeling, but captain picard's pause and request for a report unaccompanied by specifications isn't helping to put her at ease. ]

The affect would be something Seven would feel more than anyone else and vice versa, were he to realize it, he can feel her too. He hasn't quite put it all together yet. And he's fighting whatever it is, two mentalities jockeying for dominance. ]

	[ the prison's two ex-drones feeling off in any way was never a good thing, but seven was reluctant to assume it was anything borg related until she had more proof. the prison could very well be malfunctioning. the dimensional stabilizer has been known to glitch, after all. ] I am.
