[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

[If the other therapy group was bad, this would clearly prove to be worse.

Someone just stake him and put him out of his misery. He reads the card with clear unhappiness.]

It says, Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

[He really, really, really doesn't want to talk about this, but he's going to end up having to, now isn't he.]

[ Damon takes a seat next to his brother and offers him a bear claw from his plate. The pastries are yummy. It's hard to resist eating just one. ]

Switch on or switch off? Any preferences?

[Stefan's been sticking to coffee for the most part. Damon likes to eat his human food more than Stefan ever has, but he idly takes the pastry from him anyway, ripping off a piece with his fingers and putting it in his mouth. As if chewing on it will allow him to indefinitely delay the inevitable.]

Switching it off is easier, but that isn't the point.

[Seriously, why can't he just keep his mouth shut today.]

You're right. It's so much more... interesting to be able to feel everything. All that pain, guilt, sadness... [ He can't keep his mouth shut either, but it's like he doesn't even care. ]

When's the last time you held a Kleenex to your nose, brother?

You know perfectly well what happens when I go down that path, Damon.

[And all the blood and the death...it never lasted forever, and when it all came back it was just that much worse. Damon should know that just as well as anyone.]

I'm not sure, I guess I stopped counting the days at some point.

[So much sarcasm, as evidenced by the glare.]

[She's talked to Stefan before about why she wanted to be human, but this Stefan's never gone through that. Still, she's feelings more honest than usual after some coffee and pastries.]

The advantages would be marrying, being able to have children, a real life. The things I never had a chance to do.

[Because it's something he wants, even if it's probably impossible.]

Advantages-humans don't devour and seek out prey normally. Disadvantages-they are fragile and die easily.

[Now that your brother pulled the secret out of the bag, it's difficult to stop.]

I agree. Not that I was given a choice but the bad parts of this situation outweigh the good by way too much.

[The hunger. That alone is enough to drive someone insane.]

Very few of use that I know were given a choice, but that doesn't matter so much anymore.

[She's not even mildly surprised to see Stefan there, considering just about everyone else from Mystic Falls is at this prison. And of course he'd be in this group, too. She's tense, her arms folded across her chest.]

It's normal. Expected. [She pauses, looking down at the ring on her finger.] You can be happy, and enjoy life, even if technically you're dead. Things can make you laugh. [Her voice drops even more.] You can fall in love.

Without it you're just a shell. Empty. Hollow.

[Stefan, on the other hand, is a little surprised to see her, because he hadn't heard about her arrival. Still, seeing people from Mystic Falls show up, dead or not, isn't particularly new for him.

Still, she'd be able to tell by his expression that he hadn't expected this, but eventually he nods.]

That's why we do it, though, because sometimes being empty is better than dealing with the reality of what you've been doing.

Humans are small minded, flawed, imperfect beings. They fear what they don't understand, and think in one dimensional terms. Their emotions make them weak, vulnerable, and irrational. They are inefficient and impulsive, often abandoning logic and reason in favor of catering to their selfish whims and desires.

[ such a borg answer. ]

But they are also individuals who think freely and for themselves. They are one, not one of many.
