[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

[The bots had to deliver this one by force. The Blood Shack is not a place that Zero typically willingly stepped into because he refused to accept everything that had happened to him. Accepting others had gotten easier during the past year, but accepting himself isn't something he'd quite reached yet.

This whole battle within himself was still being waged with no signs of ending anytime soon.

Stubborn beyond belief when it came to this subject, Zero was still unwilling to do this therapy session. He was steering clear of the food and questions. Instead he took a seat in the very back as far away from everyone else as he could get and just glared at everyone in the room.

The problem is--this is his third therapy session and he's long ago broken into he refreshments at those.

So the bot delivers him a question before leaving. With a sigh, Zero can't help but to open it and read it outloud.]

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?

[Fuck you and your stupid therapy Marina.]

[Rebekah's eaten a few pastries at this point which is why she gives this honest answer:]

Yes, though it was over a thousand years ago. My parents made me and my siblings into our world's first vampires.

[Interest piqued. Maybe he can keep the topic off himself and onto someone else--particularly when it's a subject he's interested in.]

You're an ancestor in your home world? How did your parents do it if there weren't any others at the time? The oldest known vampire in our world is over ten thousand years old.

It was a spell they created to try to make us stronger, more able to protect ourselves from the wolves.

They had already killed my youngest brother, Henrik. My mother was a powerful witch, she didn't want to lose any more of her children.

[But those kind of spells always have consequences.]

Did any of your siblings or you inherit her abilities or talents for magic? I can't see any parent willingly giving any of their children this sort of life, though I know it happens.

We might have, but once we were turned it didn't matter. You cannot be both a vampire and a witch. They regretted it later, of course, which they tried to fix by trying to kill us.

[Family problems: she's got 'em.]

[He can't say he blames them. It's common for a hunter to commit suicide after being bit. Not always but often.]

Really? I wouldn't think those would have much to do with the other. We only have hunters or vampires back home. You can be both though.

It's a balance of nature sort of thing. Witches are connected to nature, to life -- vampires are dead.

We've had one case of a hunter-vampire. One of my mothers attempts to fix her crimes, I suppose. He's dead now though. [Rebekah saw to that herself.]

[And he'd probably belong there too.]

Yes, I've done a lot of things I'm not proud of because of it. Was I ever human? Yes and no. Hunters in my world are descendants of humans who devoured one of the original pureblood vampires. They contain a substantial amount of pureblood in their system that enables them to hunt vampires. I was also a twin--something that wasn't supposed to happen. My brother had no hunting ability--I stole all his as well. I was two times more powerful than the typical adult hunter as a child.

The purebloods wanted a toy to turn against each other that would have the ability to do what they couldn't. Kill each other.

I was twelve when I was turned.

[Happy now?]

Hold up. [ He's got plenty of questions now. ] When you say... devoured an original pureblood vamp, are we talking cannibalism here? [ Because that's what it sounds like. ]

No, her heart could not heal her injuries as she'd thrown it in the fire. She shattered into pieces after all her blood had been drunk by my ancestors.

[In other words.]

She was completely drained of blood.

She burned her own heart and then shattered into pieces? [ That sounds entirely too dramatic. Almost like a few someones exaggerated the story through the decades or centuries or whatever. ]

I know of a vampire who was a hunter too. Of course he started hunting down his vampire children. He was quite the guy.

That's how purebloods die. They don't turn to dust like most other vampires in my world. Their skin begins to crack like glass until they suddenly just shatter.

[Not dramatizing at all. He's seen more than his fair share of purebloods die. Most haven't seen any.]

It's not exactly a life you'd wish for others if you didn't begin that way. ...I know my world is fairly unique in that you can begin that way though. They breed and have children with each other.

[ turning into dust? good thing that doesn't happen to the vampires back in mystic falls. the amount of dusting and vacuuming he'd have to do... then again, he wouldn't have had to look for burial spots for all the vamps he'd killed. pros and cons. ]

You said you were turned at twelve. You don't look twelve. [ damon here was turned at twenty four and he's totally fine with being an eternal stud. ]

[ she doesn't want to answer, but having eaten this morning means she is compelled to whether she likes it or not. (someone is going to abstain from oral consumption later and stick with regenerating for energy and nourishment. yep.) ]

Yes. I was born human, but was assimilated by the Borg at the age of six. Although liberated from the Collective, my body still relies on the Borg technology implanted throughout it. I am-- [ she swallows, her discomfort and reluctance palpable. ] I am not human. Not anymore. It is impossible to return to being fully human. I will always be Borg.

The Borg are a cybernetic race of beings that assimilate members of other species into their Collective. Drones rely on both organic and technological components, neither able to survive without the other. I am Borg.

[ she stares down at her hand, the one still heavily augmented with a drone's most lethal instrument: assimilation tubules. to remove this part of her would mean to lose an arm, to risk jeopardizing nanoprobe production that was vital to other components implanted throughout her respiratory system and brain. she cannot survive without being borg, cannot be restored to life as a human. ]

You are correct; I do not belong. [ seven has been painfully aware of this from the start, from the moment the voices of the collective went silent in her head. no matter how hard captain janeway and the doctor try, she will never belong. ]

[It sort of hits him in the gut, the impact of her words actually causing a physical reaction within him. He can relate to what she's saying probably more than she could ever realize.]

...you're the only one of your kind.

[It isn't a question but a statement of fact. Zero knows without a shadow of a doubt that from her words alone, that this is the case. As a child, he always had his twin Ichiru to share that title of something different that wasn't 'normal'. And then he'd been turned and fitting in anywhere became more and more difficult. Desired and used by each side--but never really 'one' of them even if he was supposed to be in charge of one of them.]

Do you at least have somewhere you're accepted?
