[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

A spell? [That's a new one he hadn't heard before.] What sort of threat were the wolves at the time?

They had already killed my youngest brother, Henrik. My mother was a powerful witch, she didn't want to lose any more of her children.

[But those kind of spells always have consequences.]

Did any of your siblings or you inherit her abilities or talents for magic? I can't see any parent willingly giving any of their children this sort of life, though I know it happens.

We might have, but once we were turned it didn't matter. You cannot be both a vampire and a witch. They regretted it later, of course, which they tried to fix by trying to kill us.

[Family problems: she's got 'em.]

[He can't say he blames them. It's common for a hunter to commit suicide after being bit. Not always but often.]

Really? I wouldn't think those would have much to do with the other. We only have hunters or vampires back home. You can be both though.

It's a balance of nature sort of thing. Witches are connected to nature, to life -- vampires are dead.

We've had one case of a hunter-vampire. One of my mothers attempts to fix her crimes, I suppose. He's dead now though. [Rebekah saw to that herself.]

That makes sense. I don't have witches in my world so I didn't know that.

[But the talk of hunters piques his interest.]

I wasn't aware that your world had hunters too. Or is it just the one? [Like Buffy's world...]

We have some that were just regular humans who decided to hunter, and then some who were more supernaturally influenced. [Like the order of the Five -- but that's a sore subject for Rebekah.]

[Sore subject you say? He'll just poke at that a little since that's where his interest rests.]

Humans are usually too weak to go head to head with vampires. They end up dead or worse, but that depends on the world and what other influences their world can provide.

What sort of supernatural influence? Are these humans who were granted or obtained some power or did they aquire them through other means of their own desire? There are worlds where it is a choice someone makes and others where it is something bestowed on them as a gift or their destiny.

Spells, usually. Some sort of magic influencing them. There was a special order of them, the Five, who were gifted with the strength and skills to go against vampires.

[Which is where the sore subject comes in for Rebekah -- she dated one of them.]

Was. As in past tense? [Meaning, they aren't around anymore?] A witch granted that power, I assume. What sort of skills did it grant?

As far as I know, they aren't around anymore. [Not after Silas got revived.]

Strength, speed, the ability to sense vampires.

[You've unlocked his favorite topic. They'll be here all day...] All fairly standard abilities of hunters from worlds where they aren't your average human from what I've discovered during my time here. No special weapons or tools? Do they have the ability to utilize or manipulate the spell to assist them?

Other than the origin, your world actually has a number of similarities to mine. What's the difference between the powers and abilities between your siblings and the rest of the vampire population? Increased power, lack of weaknesses, immortality--those kind of things?

No special weapons outside of stakes, wooden bullets, the fairly standard equipment. Some got creative, though.

All vampires are immortal, but my brothers and I can only be killed by a special sort of stake [something she would not be normally sharing]

We can also compel other vampires. We're faster, stronger, and we heal that much faster.

So nothing any human couldn't get their hands on? Seems strange that the spell, though granting the very things your parents were trying to achieve by creating vampires in the first place--protection from a being more powerful that threatened them--was limited to only these five people. They didn't die and remained human, right? Were they immortal as well? The spell didn't pass on to their children? Why these five? Did they want this life? Were they looking for revenge? Why hasn't it happened again since they are all gone now?

You have to be creative as a hunter. You're both the hunter and the hunted-you're a threat so you're also turned into a target. Especially if you have the power to go up against them. Your only advantage is your ability to find them, they can't hide.

[There's a lot of questions he hasn't asked, but he tries to refocus a little.]

A special stake? What, is it carved from the bone of the witch who created you? [Just only half joking. It's probably not very funny...]

They were not immortal. They could be killed, but when one died another awoken. How particular people were chosen to be a part of the Five, I don't know. Their true purpose was to prevent the revival of a creature much older than me -- once that happened they became irrelevant.

One of the ones we ran into would use werewolf venom to poison vampires -- deadly to regular vampires.

[But for her it had just made her sick for a while.]

No. From one of the trees used in the ritual.

They had the urge to kill vampires-even if that wasn't their purpose. What sort of creature were they trying to prevent? It couldn't have been a vampire if they were older than you, so why target vampires?

[He's trying to follow you here.]

In 'irrelevant' do you mean the spell just ended once their mission was completed. Or they failed in their mission?

[He doesn't mention them, but he does file those two tidbits away. Werewolf venom works on regular vampires such as Damon and Stephen and the stake from a tree that was used in their ritual works on more powerful such as Rebekah.]

Because along with the creature was something any vampire would have risked anything to have -- the cure. One dose.

[It still doesn't totally make sense.]

As far as I know, all of them ended up dead one way or another, but as the mission failed, no new ones awoken.

[He's startled a little at that. Not just that there was a cure, but that any vampire would risk anything to have it. He's content about the information about the Five but his interest is switched back to the actual vampires again. Frankly, he's sort of irritated, but not at you. This isn't the first time he's hearing from someone from Mystic Falls hating this life and wishing they were human.]

Why are there so many vampires in your world if becoming one is something they don't want? I guess I just don't understand that mindset. Why curse others into this life against their will but want a way out of it yourself? Isn't that the most monsterous part of it all?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[Not all vampires risked for it, not all wanted it for themselves. Rebekah did though. She had been forced into this, this is never the life she wanted.]

People don't get turned on purpose. For instance, someone could be dying, I could heal them with my blood but then if something else happened while that blood was in their system? Something that killed them? They would turn.

[That's interesting and something he hadn't figured out from your world yet.]

So you have to have the blood of a vampire in your system when you die to be turned? How long does the blood last in the body of a human if they drink?
