[Day 237] Relationship Issues Group Therapy mingle
[The relationships group therapy attendees will all get a message telling them to report to The Winery in Sector 2. Sadly for them the alcohol is locked away, but there is an assortment of food and non-alcoholic beverages along the bar for consumption. Many of the tables have been cleared out and the chairs rearranged into a circle with booths along the edges for more intimate therapeutic discussions.

And don't forget the party favors! The wardens have left some helpful games and activity ideas to get them started. There's a bowl full of folded slips of papers with various questions.]

How many people have you slept with? Do you regret any of them? Why?

How many relationships have you been in? Why do you think that is?

What was your longest relationship? Most serious? Shortest? Most casual?

Why did your last relationship end?

What do you look for in another person?

Are you happy?

Who is your ideal mate?

What was the biggest problem/complication in your previous or current relationship?

What do you need out of a relationship? Sexual experience?

How long have you been single between relationships? Why do you think it was so long/short?

What is the best way to break up with someone?

Do you believe in soul mates? Do you think you have or will meet yours?

Would you rather spend your life with one important person or several acquaintances? Why?

Are there any similarities between the people you've been with? If so, what are they?

Do you have trouble making choices? Give examples.

Do you think with your heart, your head, or your genitalia? Are you satisfied with this behavior?

Do you have trouble relating to people? If so, in what way?

[In addition to the questions there are cards with various prompts. One explains the game, I Never. Another suggests people pair off and roleplay they are in a relationship and then deal with various scenarios like what do to if one partner flirts with someone else or comes home late without calling.]

Who should do the dishes?

When is it appropriate to discuss getting blue bands/having sex?

When should you move in together if ever?

What do you do if you suspect the other is keeping secrets?

What do you say if your partner comes home with a haircut you don't like?

How do you respond if you find your partner crying?

How do you decide how to spend your time together?

Your partner's family doesn't like you. What do you do?

One of you is critically hurt. How does the other respond?

Your friends don't like the person you're with. What do you say to them? What do you say to your partner?

One of you wants sexual relations and the other does not. How do you balance your needs?

How do you communicate your desire for a particular sexual desire to your partner?

It is your partner's birthday. How do you prepare?

At a party your partner leaves you to socialize with others. How does this make you feel and how do you respond?

How do you show your affection?

(OOC: Mingle style. You are not limited to the questions, scenarios, or games listed above. Assume there are more! I recycled a lot of this from last time so if someone was in this group twice they can feel free to notice, but assume there are lots of questions and prompts, so they probably didn't see them all.)

You know, you deserve more, someone you can grow old with, have a family with, walk in the sunlight with, have picnics with. All of the etceteras.

[ So sorry. ]

Except, you know, it's not like your life destined for that or anything. I mean family? Seriously? I kill my goldfish. Still. Maybe, just maybe, the people you push away have thought of those things before and maybe, just maybe they STILL want to have a relationship with you.

Not that I do. Anymore, but I did for years. I pined and made the worst choices when it came to boys. It's not that I realize the wisdom in all of that now, 'cause if it weren't for the fact that things go literally apocolyptic when we have sex I probably wouldn't have admitted defeat and would still be willing to do the not walking in the sunlight, not family, not growing old, not deserving more thing.

Maybe. The point is, I'm not a little girl and I haven't been for a long time. I would like to have a say in the matter. You know? And I bet the people you push away would too.

[ so so sorry ]

[ oh. ouch. for a moment, helen sits there, stunned at what she's hearing. that hadn't been what she was going for, but it is, in essence, what she'd said. she'd meant that it was far too difficult for her to lose people over and over, but from the way buffy is speaking -- and assuming the tv show of the same name goes the way this young girl's life did -- then she would understand.

sort of. it's complicated for helen, but this conversation is making her realize something she's never before allowed herself to think of: she's being selfish. incredibly selfish, if she's to think about it. pushing people away for her own good without thought to how they might feel. she did it to james, has done it to countless others before their relationship got anywhere near what she wants, what she had with james once and now has with jean-luc.

she pauses, her eyes wide, for a moment before she sneaks a glance towards a man across the room, jean-luc picard. what would he think of all this? is he even listening to them? can he hear the track their conversation is taking? does he actually want more with her or will that kiss they shared a few days ago be the farthest things go with them?

she isn't aware that she's still watching him when she answers, her expression sorrowful and voice soft. ]

That wasn't exactly what I meant, but I can see your point. [ and because she's had far too much tea here, she adds: ] It isn't that he deserves better than I can give, though that is true as well... I suppose it's that I'm afraid.

[ Buffy notices how Helen sneaks looks at Jean-Luc and she watches them both with furrowed brow. ]

Yeah, well...he deserves for you to...get over being afraid. And you owe it to yourself, I think. I mean...I'm sort of just being all learn-y about this myself, but yeah..

[ soon, she returns her full attention back to buffy, oblivious of anything out of the ordinary. ]

I suppose so. You've certainly given me something to think about. [ a lot to think about and consider, especially in the wake of that kiss. ]

Good. I'm glad my pain can help someone else maybe avoid it.

I should hope someday you'll find your peace with it as well.

[ she means that. she doesn't like profiting on someone else's pain, nor does she like the idea of someone else being in pain at all. ]

Oh. I'm peaceful-ish with it? I mean it is what it is, but even I wanted to lie, I don't see the point in it. Because of that relationship, all future relationships are pretty messed up.

That's usually how it goes. One tends to taint all the others.

[ sometimes in both good and bad ways. she really gets that, buffy. that's why she has so many issues with the possibility of being with anyone, why she tends to push people away if they get too close. experience, as they say, is both a great teacher and motivator. ]

I guess I haven't decided if that really makes up for it or not.
