[video | open] Defense Force... announcement thing.
Good day, Marina-- or, I suppose, Marina Nova. I hope everyone is adjusting as well as can be expected. We've suffered some tremendous losses [herself very much included,] but I am certain we will be able to manage things as well as possible.

With regards to the Defense Force -- with Suzaku Kururugi among those lost, and the Wardens confirming for me that weapons and life sign monitoring are no longer available -- I would like to make a proposal. [and she's going to make it openly, so anyone can weigh in... trolls she can handle, and it's worth the risk to give everyone a chance to speak.]

Although I believed strongly in Suzaku and what he did with the Force, there was something troubling me. In some cases, members' primary motivation for joining was to obtain a weapon. And while I know for a fact that Suzaku would not admit anyone who was not suitable, it nonetheless seems as though such a team should have members whose primary reason for joining is belief in its purpose. And further, I believe that the invasion of privacy that the former Defense Force utilized for monitoring life signs made inmates uneasy. I know I had my own questions about such methodology, but it was not my team and thus not my place to debate what was in place.

However, now that many things have begun anew, I am wondering if there are those among us who believe strongly enough in protecting others that they would agree to do so without the promise of a weapon, or any such personal gain. A new leader would need to be elected, and I would be happy to oversee the process if the potential members would like. Any and all proposals will be considered.

With regards to weaponry and special abilities for those who would use them in defense of themselves or others, that is a battle that I will continue to fight with the Wardens, regardless of whether there is a formal Defense Force. I believe in our members, and all of you will have my full support regardless of the status of the organization as a whole.

Hopefully, it'll work out one way or another. The new wardens seem a little more hands-off than Sentience was, so I think we're on our own when it comes to defending ourselves.

They do seem more rigid, yes. The rule about being punished for injuries seems especially telling.

Yeah, punishing both parties. Not only do they take our crimes back home out of context, now they're taking crimes we commit here out of context.

Mm. I'm quite concerned about these new Wardens, actually. I can only hope that once we are more established here, they will agree to consider some changes.

Well, we won't know until we try. Until then, I guess we'll just have to take care of ourselves.

And each other. I have several ideas as to how to improvise some weaponry that I hope to put up for consideration once things have calmed.

I think there would be a lot of people interested in that.

Mm, I imagine so. It won't be as useful as obtaining their specialized weapons from home, but I'm certainly not giving up on that, either.

Whatever happens, at least we have a pretty sizable force. If all else fails, we can just teach basic combat training.

Yes, someone suggested that. I think it's probably a good idea regardless; one never knows what may happen in the future with regards to any armaments we may gather.

Yeah. The wardens can take away our weapons easily and without warning-- they just did-- but taking away our skills is way, way harder.

Mm. Organizations like the Defense Force should always progress in order to adapt to its changing environment. And I'd say, given the circumstances we're due for a re-evaluation of our policies.

Might as well do it now, since we've gotten an unexpected fresh start.

That was my thought, yes. While I wish Suzaku were still here, I admit I am relieved for the chance to get more member input on how things are handled. Breaking off from the Wardens' purview, as well, seems a step in the right direction.

Definitely. Especially since these new wardens are a complete mystery so far. I don't really trust them.

Time will tell how trustworthy they are. For now, however, going with your assumption seems best, until they prove otherwise.

Yeah. I'm hoping for the best but definitely preparing for the worst.

[He's really, really wary. Batpeople don't like sudden changes in authority. Or authority in general, sometimes.]

A wise way of thinking, to be sure. I should hope many others will follow that example.

As far as I can tell, that's the general consensus. I haven't met anyone willing to actually be friendly with these new wardens. They're nothing like Sentience.

Acumen was nothing like Sentience, either. I suppose the system is trying to "improve" itself with new approaches.

This "improvement" is definitely a step in the wrong direction.

It's certainly very different. But I understand that Sentience wasn't always as kind as he ended up, so perhaps we have some hope.

Yeah, I guess so. Two wardens is going to be tough but we just need one on our side.
