Good day, Marina-- or, I suppose, Marina Nova. I hope everyone is adjusting as well as can be expected. We've suffered some tremendous losses [herself very much included,] but I am certain we will be able to manage things as well as possible.

With regards to the Defense Force -- with Suzaku Kururugi among those lost, and the Wardens confirming for me that weapons and life sign monitoring are no longer available -- I would like to make a proposal. [and she's going to make it openly, so anyone can weigh in... trolls she can handle, and it's worth the risk to give everyone a chance to speak.]

Although I believed strongly in Suzaku and what he did with the Force, there was something troubling me. In some cases, members' primary motivation for joining was to obtain a weapon. And while I know for a fact that Suzaku would not admit anyone who was not suitable, it nonetheless seems as though such a team should have members whose primary reason for joining is belief in its purpose. And further, I believe that the invasion of privacy that the former Defense Force utilized for monitoring life signs made inmates uneasy. I know I had my own questions about such methodology, but it was not my team and thus not my place to debate what was in place.

However, now that many things have begun anew, I am wondering if there are those among us who believe strongly enough in protecting others that they would agree to do so without the promise of a weapon, or any such personal gain. A new leader would need to be elected, and I would be happy to oversee the process if the potential members would like. Any and all proposals will be considered.

With regards to weaponry and special abilities for those who would use them in defense of themselves or others, that is a battle that I will continue to fight with the Wardens, regardless of whether there is a formal Defense Force. I believe in our members, and all of you will have my full support regardless of the status of the organization as a whole.

[ angel almost doesn't speak up. he stayed out of any and all defense force business in the last compound they were trapped in for two reasons: i. he didn't necessarily believe they were going about things as well as they could've, and ii. because it's just not his way to step in and tell a preexisting body how to do a job they've already been doing well. if it had been, he would've kept the ring of amarra and used it to fight crime during the daylight hours when the police were already on the job. now, however, with the move and how utterly restless and useless he's feeling after over a month of sitting by idle, he's done keeping to himself.

after all, he used to do this professionally back home. if he can't be the powers' champion on earth back in LA, he might as well try to help out here. above all else, that's what's most important: helping. ...and possibly having an outlet for all that jazzed up, restless vampire crap that builds up over time and makes him antsy as all get out. ]

I understand the necessity in weaponry, but a sword, crossbow, or whatever your weapon of choice happens to be isn't the only means of defending yourself. You don't super strength or powers - just the right know-how for the situation at hand. Such as basic self-defense, martial arts training, and knowing when to fight and when walk away.

[ surprisingly calm for someone who was ready to rip robots apart with his bare hands a mere few hours ago, but he's gotten that angry, pissed off steam out of his system. the move hit home on a few issues of his involving being tossed around dimensions like a rag doll and continuing to be away from the son he's tired of abandoning by no fault of his own or not. ]

I find myself both agreeing with you, and disagreeing. Not everyone is strong in the same way, and not everyone would be equally matched against all others in this facility. I have seen -- circumstances in which such methods of defense would be rather futile, unfortunately.

Still, there is great merit in your words, and I think Kitty's suggestion that the members be trained is a good one.

I agree with that. There are some of us who hold an unfair advantage, just by being what we are, over others. Not everyone would hold back from taking advantage over the bonuses they've got and others don't. That's why sometimes running is your best weapon. Knowing when to retreat is just as important as knowing when to fight.

[ a nod. ] I know several forms of martial arts and would be more than happy to help out with that.
