All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.

Edgar Allen Poe

[The man's tone is thoughtful, the words clearly intended for himself more than anyone else.]

And what a dream.

[ action ]
[An older man sits at a small corner table in the Winery, sipping a glass of red wine and reading Crime & Punishment. The situation is too strange for him to be concerned; it has to be some kind of dream. So why worry?]

[Still morning and already Kitty could use a drink.

And as good as vodka tonic might sound this particular nineteen-year-old mutant crime fighter is picking up a water from the bar as she scans the room to see who might be occupying it. No former husbands. No Tykis. Good.

She heads to what looks like the quieter side of things, and sits with her back to the wall. Sadly, the corners were all taken. She glances at one of them now since it's close by and smirks.]

Was that in the ironic section of the library?

[Gideon looks up from his book, peering at Kitty over the rim of his glasses.]

Excuse me? [His voice is warm and open, if not quite friendly.]

Ah, yes. [smiling a little as he holds it up and shakes it a little] It seemed appropriate.

[He gestures, inviting her to join him at his table if she likes. She seems like more cheerful company than Dostoevsky.]

[She was voted most likely to be reasonably more cheerful than Dostoevsky in school.

She also figures why not and slips out of her chair and into one of his. Sitting at a table by yourself isn't all that interesting as it turns out.]

Let me guess, you just got here today. [She keeps pretty good tabs on new arrivals even when she doesn't get to know them and in a place like Marina, someone over 40 stands out.]

[ It's not his first time experiencing this phenomena and after what happened last time they had a sudden flux of inmates, Reid is keeping a careful eye on the network.

[ There's a tremble in his fingers as he accesses the network archive. Rewinds. Plays it back. Rewinds. Again and again until there's no doubt in his mind that he heard that correctly, the calm, the familiar, the voice he relied on for so many years.

The voice he hasn't heard in five. ]

Tugs the communicator off and heads for the bathroom but washing his face in cold water isn't enough to make him calm down — if anything it makes his heart beat all the faster and so he goes back, picks the thing up again, puts it down. [What's this? It takes Gideon a few minutes of fumbling to figure out how to work the device -- to hear Spencer's message and record a response.]

Spencer. So you're here too.

A charming little restaurant called the Winery. Do you know where it is?

You know your literature. Are you a scholar perhaps?
