[The feed begins as voice, a man’s concerned but controlled voice making an official-sounding request:] Enterprise, come in. This Lieutenant Commander Geo--

[A brief moment of silence as the feed switches to video, and it becomes obvious why Geordi is having trouble working the device. His eyes, without iris or pupil, clearly mark him as blind.] Any Federation vessel? [A pause.] Computer? Computer, respond.

[He sighs, but doesn’t look surprised. A slight scoff, as if he’s somehow amused while also being irritated.] Figures. How do I switch frequencies on this thing? They could’ve at least left me with my combadge. But alright, let’s try... [He fiddles with the comm buttons and the feed swaps back to voice.]

Hello? Does anyone copy? I could use a little help here, and I’m getting used to the idea of not being picky.

((OOC: Action open to anyone who wants to find a blind man meandering around the beach!))

[ There are a lot of emotional responses that the chip is flooding Data's neural net with. The one that comes across in his tone is just astonishment. ]

Geordi.

[ To say that there's no shortage of things to tell him would be putting it mildly, but Data's actually a bit overwhelmed right now. And he's already on the move, heading toward his friend's location without delay. ]

[A smile of plain relief comes to his face, and a chuckle. Of course Data would find him, even with what was apparently the most obsolete comm mechanism to exist in the 24th century.]

There you are. I'd call it my lucky guess on the frequency, but I knew you'd find me some other way. Tell me all about it when I get back on board.

I seem to be on a desert planet, Class M. Can you get a lock on me?

[ There's actually a slight hesitation before he moves into his response, more concerned about bearing bad news than he would have been prior to the chip. ]

Unfortunately, I am not on board the Enterprise - nor are you on a planet surface. I am, however, present in the same area and en route to what I believe to be your location; in adjusting the device's settings, you activated a video feed. Your description additionally seems to support my conclusions.

	In the same area? That was quick. [But all is not well. Even though Data's words are entirely sound and logically laid out, Geordi can just tell something isn't right. [ well this is interesting. helen certainly hasn't come across anyone like this before, here or at home. he's blind. she can tell that right from the start, but seeing as it's rather rude to point that out, she'll go about this in her normal way. ]

I would say 'welcome to the club' but it's less of a club and more of a glorified prison.

[ she makes note of the language he's using, including "frequencies" and "combadge," the slight changes in wording that make her wonder... she knows someone from her future, but perhaps that's a question better left to another time. ]

My name is Doctor Helen Magnus. I'm afraid your introduction was cut off. Has anyone you know responded yet? [ there's always the possibility that no one he knows is here, but she's not going to say that yet, especially when he mentioned the enterprise and the federation. those were names captain picard had given her and that only cements her suspicions. ]

	Thanks anyway, doc. [Now that he knows what's happening, sort of, he's a little more relaxed. At least enough to smile and be polite, since they're all in the same boat.] And yeah, my friend Data came and found me.
