[Voice// Video | Open!]
[The feed begins as voice, a man’s concerned but controlled voice making an official-sounding request:] Enterprise, come in. This Lieutenant Commander Geo--

[A brief moment of silence as the feed switches to video, and it becomes obvious why Geordi is having trouble working the device. His eyes, without iris or pupil, clearly mark him as blind.] Any Federation vessel? [A pause.] Computer? Computer, respond.

[He sighs, but doesn’t look surprised. A slight scoff, as if he’s somehow amused while also being irritated.] Figures. How do I switch frequencies on this thing? They could’ve at least left me with my combadge. But alright, let’s try... [He fiddles with the comm buttons and the feed swaps back to voice.]

Hello? Does anyone copy? I could use a little help here, and I’m getting used to the idea of not being picky.

((OOC: Action open to anyone who wants to find a blind man meandering around the beach!))

Hey, thanks. It's a strange place to be welcomed to, but I'll take a friendly voice over the alternatives any day.

And I'm getting that, yeah. If I could examine them properly I'd probably be thinking about a few modifications. [He's good with his hands, but it's hard to take things apart that way when they're unfamiliar things.]

[ He so very much wants to bring up the visor but that would be beyond creepy and if it's one thing Reid has learned over the almost three months here, it's that it's so much easier to befriend your childhood heroes if you keep your cool and don't fanboy all over them soon as they step foot in prison.

Play it cool, profiler. ]

I'm sure there will be time for that... I'd love to see what you'd make of it. [ A beat. ] I'm Reid, by the way.

[Time for that, huh. He's not sure if that's comforting or not. But it doesn't keep the smile out of his voice.] Reid, I'm Geordi. Nice to meet you -- so to speak.

Have you been here long?

This is my eighty-first day, so I guess you could say that. There are those who've been here much longer.

Eighty-one days. [He shakes his head in awed disbelief.] Wow, I'm sorry. That's a long time to be stuck somewhere against your will.

Sure, but all things considered this isn't such a bad place to be stuck in. You get used to it pretty quickly, which is part of the danger I suppose.

Yeah, I can see that. But from the perspective of a new arrival, I can't really see myself wanting to stay. What I had at home was... well, it was pretty great. [Exploring space, where no one has gone before etc. It's what he's always wanted to be doing.] And this is a prison, isn't it?

It depends on your definition of "prison", but if you want to call us prisoners then you wouldn't be wrong. Criminals on the other hand... well, that's not entirely true even though the wardens seem to want us to believe that.

No, of course it isn't. [He couldn't agree more on this!] But I'm not surprised they're trying to convince people into things that aren't true. The experience I've had with omniscient beings taught me that they don't tend to play fair.

But that doesn't mean they can't be held off, if you do it right.

You don't need to be omniscient to practice gaslighting techniques — especially not when you've got your intended victims in an ant farm like we are. It's difficult to do much of anything when your captors have full control over your life support. [ And this may or may not be all in your head, which really is an angle he needs to put to practical testing soon. ]

We just need to find the right way around that.

I guess that's one way to put it. [Not the most optimistic of situations, is it?] I have to believe that anyone who could hold my friend Data for as long as he's been here is going to be a tough nut to crack.

Normally, I might even appreciate a challenge like that on some level. Once I'm through it, that is.

That really put it into perspective, doesn't it? If even he can't figure it out. [ Yeah, he knows Data. ] I'm sure we'll work it out eventually. It's just a bigger challenge than we might've expected.

Yeah, it really does. [Not a great perspective to have, in all honesty, but he wouldn't be worthy of his position on the Enterprise if he gave up easily.]

How's everyone going about working things out, organizing what we know so far? [He's quick to include himself in with the group. Two heads are better than one and all that, and they're all in the same boat.]

We have a good bit of information so far, but nothing really pointing us in any one direction as far as a solution goes. When you have a moment, you can always come down to the Defense Force HQ and look over what we do have... or just ask Data, I guess. He's recently taken on the task of... well, being a back-up, I guess you could say.

[Chuckling a little,] That sounds like Data's area, all right.

If he's involved, you can bet I'll help too. Defense Force... that sounds kind of like the local police, but being that this is a prison I'm presuming it's not exactly a direct analogy.

You could say it's something like that — it's a prisoner run organization that's dedicated to keeping our fellow inmates safe from each other and whatever the facility throws our way. We also gather and process any information we can find on the facility, the wardens and the means with which we were brought here in an effort to find a way to send everyone back home safely.

Needless to say, we've been more successful with the former than the latter.

At least that's something. Every little bit helps in a situation like this. [Says the man who's almost used to getting kidnapped or stranded in unfortunate situations.] I'd like to help, if I can.

We'd love to have you. [ Oh gee wiz would they! ] There's an interview with myself and Kitty Pryde — she's the leader — and a simple psych eval, but nothing too complicated. Depending on which position you're looking to be in, there's also a skills test involved.

Oh, [he grins] I should think a Starfleet officer should be able to pass any of those tests. Otherwise I wouldn't deserve to wear the uniform.

I probably should figure out how to deal with my vision, first. But I'll definitely keep it in mind.

I'll do that, Reid. And thanks for the warm welcome. I'm still not a fan of this place, but it's still a big improvement over the vessel of some renegade Klingons.
