Day 220 l Video l Open
[Ianto is eying the dome curiously and also a bit nervously. He's managed to turn his video on just quickly enough for a tentacle to be seen briefly silhouetted behind him before disappearing into the murk.]

When they say pay no attention to the tentacles, do they in fact mean pay lots of attention to them because they're rather large and suspicious looking? Surely I'm not the only one noticing these things.

Hum...?

[Even if it's not visible, she leans over and peers out the window.]

I suppose it could be any of those... but seemingly not smart enough to understand that there are people inside.

Well I don't know if they'd actually listen to us if we asked them to shut the lights off.

I agree, I think it's an animal, not something sentient. If it was it would have acted already.

No, I suppose not. [Which strikes her as rather silly, sitting in the dark for an hour or two seems like a very easy answer.]

I feel as though I should have been reading more about ocean creatures. We didn't have one, so I'm completely at a loss about this whole mess.

Well to be honest I'm not exactly much of an expert, either. Aliens I can talk about all day, but squids? Not so much.

Oh! You know about aliens?

[Consider her interest piqued.]

I defend the Earth from them at home. Never a dull moment, really. How about you? I didn't actually catch your name.

Wow! Um, please call me Callie.

[Even more importantly:] Does this mean that you know about trolls?

Ianto Jones, nice to meet you.

Sorry, never heard of them outside of fairytales. [Although to be fair he's had a few unpleasant brushes with creatures that were supposed to be imaginary.]

Ah. Different instance of Earth, then. [A little disappointed, but she recovers quick.] Quite alright!

It's a pleasure to meet you, Ianto! How do you do your Earth-defense?

Parallel worlds? Its surprising how many of those you hear about in this place, isn't it? I'm more of an expert in other planets, to be honest, but its all rather fascinating. Probably the only benefit of being in this place.

Usually by running about and randomly firing off alien technology until we get rid of it. Well, a bit more professional than all that. [Barely.]

[She wants to talk about her pre-existing knowledge of how parallel universes work, and how cool it is to meet people from other Earths, both to create conversation and to maybe hopefully impress this man a little bit.]

[Buuuut she does get stuck on one point, and her reply comes slowly and carefully.]

... So... um. Do you mean that you... killed them?

[He doesn't miss that tone in her voice, and he takes it quite seriously as he replies.]

Only when we have to; when they've attacked up or innocent people and there's no other way to stop them. Ideally we try and negotiate and send them home or find a way to help them. But sometimes that's not an option and yes, we've had to kill them. We don't ever do it unless we have to, though.

That's certainly fair, if there's really no other choice... [She's not wild about it, but she also respects that it has to happen, sometimes.]

The Earth I am acquainted with had only a few heroes attempt to repulse the invading force, and unsuccessfully. It was a covert enough takeover that by the time it became clear what had happened, no one was left to truly oppose it.

It can easily be said that killing the invader would have been the better route.

That sounds like the situation we usually deal with. I'm sorry to hear about what happened.

oops, sorry for late! Disregard if you'd like.

As am I, for you. But I'm also glad that you're capable of protecting your Earth.

I've never been there, but I'm quite the admirer of its people! Humans are among my most favorite aliens.
