Day 220 l Video l Open
[Ianto is eying the dome curiously and also a bit nervously. He's managed to turn his video on just quickly enough for a tentacle to be seen briefly silhouetted behind him before disappearing into the murk.]

When they say pay no attention to the tentacles, do they in fact mean pay lots of attention to them because they're rather large and suspicious looking? Surely I'm not the only one noticing these things.

Aside from their first appearance a few days ago... no, nothing like it. Actually, I can't remember seeing any larger life outside the dome walls before.

I suppose it was only a matter of time; we are a rather large glowing target down here. It must have been too much to hope we would go unnoticed forever.

Makes you wonder why they decided to put the facility down here in the first place, if we're at such a risk of being attacked.

Have, uh... have you seen anything like this before?

Not exactly. We did follow an alien down to the Mariana Trench once, but it wasn't really of the giant tentacled variety. I've run into a few as big as this thing seems to be, but we were pretty heavily armed and didn't have the added complication of being underwater. You?

Me? [ So much disbelief he can't quite keep himself from laughing. ] No... before this place, I dealt exclusively in human perpetrators. Nothing supernatural at all.

Even biologically speaking, I've never heard of anything this big. The largest known cephalopod — the North Pacific giant octopus — doesn't get larger than 600 lbs with a span of 30 feet, and it's rare to find them deeper than 215 feet under the surface.

Must have been quite a shock then, ending up here.

It certainly seems possible. I've seen creatures this big and come across plenty more aquatic ones of similar size in the Torchwood archives. None that seem to match this one, though. Although, to be fair, we don't actually know we're on Earth, do we? This place has its share of unusual creatures, maybe the surrounding environment is no exception.

That certainly seems to be the most logical explanation. We really don't know anything about the world we're in after all... maybe we haven't seen anything before because of migration patterns, ocean currents, seasons shifting... it could be anything.

Whatever it is though, it has to be durable to withstand so much pressure.

Agreed. And somehow I don't think it's going to continue ignoring us for long.

It doesn't seem likely, no... [ Sigh. ] I'm not sure I trust the wardens to have an evacuation system.

Me either. I keep trying to convince myself it must have taken a lot of trouble to get us all here instead of just killing us so they must want us alive, but I'll admit it's not a particularly convincing theory.

Not under these circumstances, no... I wouldn't be surprised if there was a point where we're not worth the effort anymore.
