[ It's the first annual monthly bi-weekly — it's the first Memorial Garden Committee meeting! The invitations have been sent, a couple of park benches in Sector 0 have been claimed and there's even a few plates of home-made cookies put out in case the allure of fast food on a stick wasn't enough. How can you resist? That's right, you can't!

The instigator to all this is pretty nervous but once the clock strikes noon he clears his throat and kicks off the meeting the only way he can. ]

Alright, so… some of all y'all might remember me talkin' 'bout puttin' together a Memorial Garden for all our friends who've disappeared a while back. Now, I know we already got some o' that stuff 'round here but this would be somethin' we'd create all on our own. We'd decide what t' plant in it an' tend to it an' pool our rehab points together to get seeds an' plants or whatever else we need.

There ain't no pressure to help out. We do what we can, alright? What we're good at. I'm happy to help anyone who don't know how t' grow things an' wants to learn, but th' important part is that we all get a chance to have a say in this. This is where this comes in. Just write down your ideas an' we'll gather it all up an' make sure everyone gets somethin' they want.

[ He gestures to a SUGGESTION BOX set out with a stack of paper and some pens for all your suggestive needs. ]

Alright... that's all I had t' say. You go on an' talk amongst yourselves an' have fun!

(ooc: Mingle! Socialize to your hearts content, whether you got an invitation to the meeting or not. Notifs are off but Aidan has a thread HERE if you want to hit him up specifically! Feel free to let your character leave serious ideas for the memorial garden (or just troll the hell out of it) in the suggestion box HERE ! ))

[She usually avoids gatherings if not invited personally, but felt like attending this for a few reasons: enjoying gardening-- even if she knows rather little about actually doing so-- and already a bit of work in the Gardens lately.

So she has herself a spot in the grass, cross-legged and back against one of the benches and not entirely separate from the crowd, where she nibbles on a cookie while seriously considering what kind of flowers she should jot down on her slip of paper]

[ Peggy settles in next to her, her own cookie held lightly in hand. ]

It's a good spot for a garden, don't you think?

[ she hadn't been sure what to make of the idea, but now that she was here, she was more then warming up to the idea. She almost loved it. ]

[She had been deep in thought, but twists a bit to cast a smile up at the older woman]

Well, it was designed for it. [Not like a patch of good soil or a clearing that came by chance in nature and had to be discovered]

True, but the wardens could have easily planted their own choice of flowers here instead of leaving it for us to do. I'm not entirely convinced it was a kindness or an oversight on their part.

[ she swallowed then, around a piece of cookie ]

It's a shame we don't have milk for these. They're quite good.

That'd be one less activity for the rehabilitation they so seek from us, though, if they'd done that. It was clearly for our benefit. [There's a sarcastic edge to her voice and words that says volumes of what she thinks of the wardens]

I wanted to ask Aidan if he made them himself, but...

[She doesn't know him personally, and to take him away from talking with others about the actual project to ask about cookies seems a bit...]

[ Peggy's lips twitched slightly as she brushed away a stray crumb from her mouth. ]

They certainly do taste handmade. You could simply ask for the recipe.

[ but then she sobered up and set aside thoughts of cookies and milk and childhood dreams. They were of little use here in the dome, so far removed from home. ]

It certainly is to our benefit if we can be certain of the origin of at least some of the food we eat. I have yet to figure out where our wardens acquire the food that we do eat after all and so much of it is... Well, off. [ she could almost say disgusting, but regardless, it tasted off to her palette. Convenient food... Hah! True convenience is in a soldier's rations and she's had her fill of those. ]

[But that brings up her issue of approaching him over cookies...]

[Peggy isn't the only one who becomes solemn all of a sudden, the mentioning of incoming resources dredging up reminders of the old dome]

...There was an answer to that found in the previous facility, but it hasn't been determined if it's the same for this dome.

I... see. [ she immediately is all ears. ] Is it something you can't speak of or would you mind sharing some of that information?

[And it's true that most the men she knows cook, but it doesn't seem like something that should be done. She's old-fashioned, alright, but that's expected given her upbringing]

No, but-- It's rather disconcerting. Like most truths, it's not something I'd want someone to take lightly. [Curiosity killed the cat, and all-- or maybe broke their mind in this case. She glances up to Peggy with an asking look, a silent request for her to be sure]

[ Peggy took a deep breath and then nodded ] Please, do go on. While ignorance may be a comfort for some, I can no more ask to keep it's mantle, then assume it shall stay forever. It is best to know now, then later.

[ especially not with such damning silence laid out before her; it be an injustice to truth and there was so precious little of that. ]

[Even with the topic at hand, the corners of mouth momentarily twitch upward at Peggy's response; pleased with it and the older woman, her respect growing.

Then, she takes a breath herself]

I'm sure that the investigative team has some record of it compiled from people that were here, but as someone who experienced it firsthand...

In the previous dome, there were levels below it. How many were never revealed, but we managed to see several containing farmland, with crops and assorted livestock, during a small rebellion. Though, that's hardly the disturbing part, as we went further than that down to a level that mirrored the surface level we inmates inhabited, save for one or two structures in place of buildings we had above.

Those who had no part in the rebellion were in their mirrored homes, permanently unconscious and despite where they were when we left the upper level, and everyone who left-- vanished in the dimensional stabilizer were in the same state in a black building... a storage building.

[ Peggy froze, her smile in place only to keep others from suspecting the true seriousness of their conversation. Levels under the dome, food (that stood to reason), and another facility altogether... ]

You mean to say that what we experience here on the surface is but a ruse while we slumber underground? [ it's hard to believe, but coming from Tear, she could. ]

That's a viable theory, and I believe the current working one among those who know of this. Theories on whether it's a mental manipulation of some sort, or of a spiritual sort are likely varied, considering the technological differences between... and of the belief system too, I suppose.

[They haven't seen each other since Saya's strangeness-driven revelation, but oddly there's a sense of broken tension now. Saya guarded her secret closely for fear of yet more people trying to coerce her into whatever they think best, but it is something of a relief to just have things out there.]

I didn't know you like plants. [Lame as ice-breakers go, but hey. They're new to this almost-getting-along thing.]

[Saya may think it lame, but in actuality it works rather well considering she does in fact like plants-- though, more flowers, really.

Folding her cookie in napkin and discarding for now on the bench, she manages a smile that is kind but also shows how painfully aware she is of this new... setting for them]

Where I lived as a child, nothing could grow. So I spent a lot of time admiring and working with the different flowers my brother brought back from-- abroad, trying to get them thrive.

[Saya's eyes follow that cookie; she's debating whether to ask if Tear's going to finish it. But even she can give her appetite a rest sometimes.]

[She doesn't however, sit down. There's a level of comfort she just doesn't have yet, and sitting without invitation is it.]

I grew up in a place with a lot of gardens. [She's not exactly comfortable remembering, but the closer she gets to her Long Sleep the more she tends to reminisce.] But ever since then I feel like there haven't been a lot of them.

Gardens, you mean? You could have made your own.

[She gets up from her spot after a beat, brushing some grass off; it doesn't feel right to be sitting while Saya stays standing, and Saya herself hasn't sat perhaps because she isn't going to stay... Though, she isn't aware the girl needs an invitation, she wouldn't think Saya would...]

Are-- you going to start one here? [Hopeful, yes, there's no missing it. Why else would Saya be here right now?]

Mmm, I don't think so. [She's not going to get into the short fuse she's running on, that's been hashed out to death and back.] I think Aidan will do a good job, though. He's the kind of person who'd be good at this.

[A little 'heh'] No, I don't think most could handle being surrounded by one type. Because, you're right; it can be difficult with even just one person like that close to you.

But what I was getting at was... it's likely he took the first steps, right? When you met each other, at the start.
