[217] voice & action
[ VOICE ]

Talk to me.

Home remedies for sleeplessness. What do you do? Tell me. I have nothing in my ears, nothing to do. No story or recipe is too boring.

Or tell me about your sex life, if that's any better.

[ ACTION ]

[ It's late out. Damara can't sleep. It's as simple as that: she wanders through the dome craving a cigarette, walking until she feels tired. You can catch her pretty much anywhere. ]

Sleep wise you need to be tired both mentally and physically, so make sure you're exercising both your mind and your body. Blue light disrupts sleep patterns so stay away from bright screens before bed. And if you can't get your brain to shut off, write it down to get it out of your head.

Counting sheep does not work, but counting backwards by 3s is just tricky enough to shift your brain into neutral

[Don't mind Martha being all doctory]

[ She tries and fails to not mind how genuinely helpful this woman is being. ]

Good advice; nice words. But. I will have to test it. You sound like you have a lot of trouble too, to know these things.

[Martha sounds a little taken aback at Damara's tone but recovers quickly.]

I'm a doctor. Or I was before coming here. Granted, if you're not sleeping due to nightmares, then I can't be of much help. I'm not allowed to prescribe anything here.

But you seem as though you'd rather I left you alone.

[ Oop. Damara smooths out her tone effortlessly. ]

I'm unused to kindness, helpfulness. And. Bad mood from lack of sleep. Forgive me.

[Well that's not a comforting thought.]

No? Well, I tend to be helpful to most people. It's why I decided to be a doctor. And I think you get a free pass for the lack of sleep. If you need any more ideas, I'm Martha Jones.

I will remember this. As well as your advice. Thank you, Martha Jones. I'm Damara.

What did a doctor do to get put in jail?

I'm sorry we met under poor circumstances Damara.

[Martha is thankful this is a voice only conversation on the phone as she sorts through the list of reasons she's in this prison. Some warranted, some not so much. It takes a matter of seconds though and she replies.]

I was monumental in overthrowing a dictator who killed half a billion people. Apparently, our wardens don't distinguish between decent governments and bad ones when you bring them down.

[ Oh, she's this type. Damara doesn't like her, but eases some cheer into her tone. ]

I was thinking more like malpractice. But leading a rebellion isn't too shabby either.

Nope, no malpractice. Besides, there wasn't much of a legal system in the resistance.

A shame.

[ And she doesn't say exactly what she's referring to-- malpractice or legal systems, take it either way. ]

Why were you resisting?

[Martha elects to believe Damara is commenting on the legal systems though she's not sure. She moves onto the next question.]

The British Prime Minister was really an alien hell bent on destroying the world. And the Universe.
