[Day 216] [BASEBALL - mingle]
[PLAY BALL!

Or cheerlead.

Or watch.

Or heckle.

It's an event everyone can enjoy!

There are some traditional snacks on hand. No alcohol sadly, but you can still have soda, hot dogs, and popcorn among other things. The bleachers provide enough seating for those who want to see exactly how vampires, humans, demons, mutants, etc. all play together. Not to mention some of them only recently even learned what baseball was. Never a dull moment at least.

In the end, it's the Flying Knights who win in this fairly evenly matched game, but there was some impressive action for both teams It should be an interesting season.]

(OOC: MINGLE! This is event style! Just put in your header whether your character is in the crowd, the purple dragons, the flying knights, cheerleading, before the game, or after the game or any combination! Please assume there was adequate IC announcement of this event!

Backdated to earlier in the day. Roster. It is not yet updated with recent additions from the last Yuuri post.)

[ elena's blue marina cheerleading uniform is only made complete by the ribbon wrapped around her ponytail. she spends the game smiling more than usual for once, surrounded by her fellow cheerleaders. there are also some cheers performed and spelling out letter with her arms. *\o/*

afterwards, you can approach her as she breaks off from her squad to get a drink and a snack.

[ seven attends out of pure curiosity, and more so towards the cheerleaders than the baseball team itself. she's familiar with recreational sports and knows of several members of voyager's crew who partake in them frequently in sessions logged on the holodeck. cheerleading, however, is an entirely new concept, one she finds intriguing, if not a bit unorthodox in the way they use a combination of poses, dancing, and chants to convey their encouragement for their team.

she waits until the game's conclusion to make her way out of the stands and towards the girls in uniform, approaching one of the girls she was previously familiar with. ]

Elena Gilbert. Which team were you cheering for?

[ elena's twisting the end of her ponytail as she hears her name, and turns away from her fellow cheerleaders to spot seven. she looks a little exhilarated, and there's an easy smile and some lightness in her eyes there isn't usually.

it takes her a moment and a breath to recognize seven, process the question, and answer.
] Uh, both. Not exactly traditional, I know, but it's good for the squad. [ performing in front of a crowd, getting involved.

fun.
]

And it's traditional to cheer for one or the other?

[ forgive her questions. they may sound like something she should know via common sense, but a girl who grew up away from earth and largely amongst a group of hive mentality cyborgs has no clue how cheerleading is supposed to work. quantum physics? got it. cheerleading? nope. ]

[ the questions do kind of trip her up, but she remembers what seven said she was -- and how she wasn't familiar with earth customs. she answers them with an understanding and patient smile. ] Yeah, there are usually more teams than two. Squads are institution-based, like local sports are. At home, I cheered for my school, and we also entered competitions with other cheerleading squads.

Is this your first baseball game?

[ she nods. ] That is correct. I have participated in sports, but none so... Terran in origin.

[ with the exception of ping pong, but games of velocity on the holodeck were with a hover disc and phasers, not bats and baseballs. ]

Velocity. It is traditionally played on a holodeck range with phasers and an aerodynamic hoverdisc approximately eight inches across. The object of the game is to fire upon the hoverdisc before it fires upon you. It is a test of skill and accuracy.

[ which came in hand during real life scenarios when you were trying to shoot an intruder dodging fire while running full speed down a corridor. ]

[ the words she uses are unfamiliar to her, but elena understands the idea of it. it's not like any game she can think of - besides video games. yep. video games. she smiles a little when it occurs to her, and she nods curtly, more to herself than seven. ] Sounds like something my brother plays. Video games? [ does that sound familiar to her? ]

It used to be kind of my thing. [ she says it casually, even if the story is a little more serious than that. it has to do with her parents dying, letting go of what used to matter - and now maybe she's trying to accept the parts of her she's done everything to reject the past few years. (the parts of her she blamed for her parents' death, for wanting damon - )

she offers reid some of the finger food on her plate. she's only seen him in class lately, and that used to be different. she's happy to see him here.
] I didn't know you liked baseball.

[ elena pauses at that question. the answer is yes. ] Yeah, I know Stefan. [ whose head of hair she easily spots across the field beyond reid. she gestures towards him. ] And Yuuki. [ they do go to reid's class together.

so, the losing team's members.

[ Guess who has two thumbs, two eyes and did not bother to watch the game? This guy right here.

Damon had arrived in time to watch his brother's team lose the game and now he's getting some popcorn to chew on because he's officially b-o-r-e-d. He stands in line behind a familiar looking head of hair; except it's not so familiar what with the blue ribbon in it. What is that? He tugs on it.

[ guess who has no wait, elena's not going to bother with the cute in-tag repertoire. it's been another inconsequential few days since she's seen or spoke to damon, and while the desire to contact him during every one of them has been very present and very convincing, the most recent talk with caroline has been at the forefront of her mind.

it makes her wonder if there was any part of her that lied. (she had.) if she had already forgiven damon, though not been able to forget, what he did. (how could she forgive him?) the anger was still there, the correction of her trust about what damon would do was still too new to reconsider.

she starts at the tug, spins around already tentatively indignant - and after she spots him it's with little amusement.

(his presence shifts her in some way she can't describe, has never wanted to acknowledge.

at least until recently, in her way.)

she reaches to blindly fix the bow.
] Really, are you five? [ and is about to turn her back on him again. ]

[ He has been rather scarce. Busy. Distracted. What with the many wooden thingies to whittle and a whole new vervain nursery to care for and a new apartment to furnish and blah, blah, blah. All the excuses ever. ]

Oh, we both know that I'm way more adult than that. [ He cuts the line and orders two slushies. ] Blue for me and a pink one for the cheerleader.

And ooh. Popcorn. Gimme, gimme.

[ at least she doesn't have to hear the excuses, and he knows more and better to offer them.

she huffs at his response, balks at him cutting her and ordering - so obviously she moves beside him to take her rightful place in line rather forcefully and address the bot:
] I don't want pink. Red, please.

Mm. Red. My favorite. [ He's clearly working at being exasperating and that's nothing new. He'll just tilt his head and take a good look at the length of her skirt now while they're waiting for the drinks to be prepared. ]

[ if she notices (and she does) how he's occupying himself with the length of her skirt, she doesn't comment. no, she just waits for the bots to ready their snacks and turns her head to look at him blankly in response to his question.

(protip: it's not so much blank as it as witheringly dismissive.)

aaaaand she moves her attention back to the bots.

(protip: she's totally bothered. her practiced expression is twitching.)

Fine. I'll just leave it to my very active imagination then. [ He turns to the bot just as it's about to hand out Elena's drink and he takes quick a sip from it before handing it over to her. The look on his face says: what? it was a taste test. ]

[ she frowns at him taking her drink and taking a sip, ok. and then swipes it from him and looks at him pointedly and none-too-friendly, her head cocking slightly to the side. the seemingly random casualness of his mention of sam doesn't go unnoticed, and she doesn't appreciate it. ] I haven't talked to Sam today. [ she's just as casual (and consistently irritated.) before the sentence is finished, she's passing by him to take her presence elsewhere. ]
