Day 202 [Action | Open to anyone] Merlotte's
[No doubt it's been a long day for some, newbies or standard inmates. Maybe you're lost, worried, feeling kind of alone and like ya need a stiff drink. Maybe you lost someone a few days ago, maybe you were hoping to find someone or head home yourself, but it didn't happen. Or maybe you're just hungry.

In any case, Merlotte's is open for business and the owner, Sam, is almost always there. There's even a pool table! Come on in and relax, forget about your worries and troubles for a while.

((ooc: this can work like a mingle if you want to thread-jack and use it for an open meeting spot or what have you. This was kind of a random sudden thing, so have at it! If you want Sam just let me know in your header (or on plurk) , or feel free to mark closed threads for you and yours.))

[ Eyebrowquirk. Well then. ] So you just needed a diversion from somthin' that isn't even a problem.

Oh, it is a bit of a problem. But I'm not worrying about it. [She takes a sip of her sweet drink.]

That said, I was recently advised that it would be beneficial for me to "do nothing" once in a while. This seemed as good a place as any.

[ He issues a noise in agreement, coupled with a sort-of-nod. ] Nothin' wrong with a vacation.

So what's keepin' you so busy, then? Sam doesn't seem like th' kind of guy who'd run his staff that ragged... at least not in that way. [ Dog pun. ]

Aside from my duties here, I assist with the Defense Force, I teach several courses at the school as well as attend several as a student, and I'm building a projector that will be used to make a more realistic skyscape at night. As well as other matters as they arise, of course.

[Not that much really, when you compare it to heading up a space colony and commanding starship armadas.]

[ Raised brows goes here. Whoa girl. ] You really don't know how to do nothin', do you? Busy lit'le bee.

[ She might be able to pick up on the tension working its way into his shoulders as soon as she mentions the DF. Not fond of consorting with goody-goodies. ]

[She certainly acts as though she doesn't notice any such tension. But of course she notices.]

I have been expected to perform such tasks as they were required of me since I was a young child. It's in the nature of those like me to aspire to many goals. [Coordinators have an internal drive that some Natural humans and other beings can't quite match. Some can, of course.]

[ Scoff. ] Sounds pretty borin' to me... programmed like a robot. No wonder you can't make up your mind.

[She glances at him, lingering for a particularly potent moment before responding with the same smooth ease as if there had been no pause.]

Not in the least. We simply find inspiration easily.

[ He shrugs. Drains his glass. Can't bring himself to care too much about a bird he doesn't even know, but that lingering glance did in no way go by unnoticed. ]

To each their own, I guess.

Mm, as you say. However, you seem disdainful of my choices. [Which makes her more curious than anything.]

Doesn't matter what I think, does it? If you're content, then why should I care?

You shouldn't, necessarily. But it matters what people think, even if I disagree.

[Not necessarily her pressing the subject, just commentary.]

So what's th' point in that? If you're just going to do whatever you want in th' end, why waste time on a survey?

I have been influenced by others' opinions before, it may happen again. [Not usually, but sometimes.] And even if I choose not to take the advice, that doesn't make the differing opinions worthless.

I don't quite follow your meaning, but I don't mind the word. [Others are free to define her however they like.]

Although I get the feeling that particular statement cuts both ways, I've been compared to worse than a flower.
