    Justin's Artwork
Does anyone know any of the background on Justin's artwork? At various times during the series we see his sketches, his work done on the computer, and, of course, his paintings. I'm curious about who the actual artists were and the process that was used for selecting their work to be in the show.

    Thanks!

    A 513 Epiphany!
I think I may have just had a Queer as Folk epiphany!

We've all thought Brian's line in 513 "It's only time" was a bit odd and evasive and some even thought he was weird for not seeming to give a shit when he next saw Justin.

I think I may have just figured it out! )

If it wasn't an intentional reference, it fucking well should have been! (And I choose to believe it was.)

And if it was, why hasn't anyone said so sooner?!

Either way, this may be the single most perfectly QaF-prescient song ever written. And it's an absolutely beautiful song. Go listen to it. Even better, support Stephin Merritt and go buy it!

    Deb's T-shirts
Okay, so I've been meaning to post my Big List of All Deb's T-Shirts for ages, but never got around to it. But today's qaf_rewindqaf_rewind post (found here) inspired me to get off my ass and finally post it.

I think I got most of them, but I may well be missing a few, and I know I haven't figured out what's on some of them. So please pitch in!
Comment if you find that any that are missing, if something needs correction, or if you figure out any that I wasn't able to. I'll keep editing as I rewatch and notice things as well.

My Big List of All Deb's T-Shirts

Also, images of many of them, as well as some other fun, related info, can be found on Marido's page here:

And if any of this inspires any interesting thoughts for discussion, please don't hesitate to come back here and discuss!

    Various iterations of scripts: 122
I've always wished I had the money to bid on some of the original QaF scripts at auction, because I find stage directions and editorial changes fascinating to compare to the final outcome, but we rarely get to glimpse such things in this fandom.

For those of you who feel the same way, you may find this LJ post on the details from a script from 122 interesting. Of course, feel free to leave the author some kind words, start discussions there, etc., but I'd love it if you came back here to discuss too. Enjoy.

    Randy's Tattoo?
I was just rereading the first post in this comm and although there are several questions posed that pique my curiosity, this one is driving me nuts:

how they covered Randy's tattoo and when it's visible

I swear this is the first I've been made aware of a Randy tat, of course I know about Gale's resist tat.

What I would love to see are caps of both, are there any out there?

ETA to repost pics and icons:

I just noticed another little editing discontinuity I hadn't seen before.
Episode 105. Michael goes to see Dr. Cameron for the first time. Watch David's hands as he starts examining Michael.

    Random thought while watching 204
Linz: We have to sign all this?!

Mel: We have durable powers of attorney, living will, joint tenancy agreement, reciprocal guardianship for Gus…

Linz: After this, signing a marriage license would be a breeze.

They've been living together for six years. Their child is over a year old. Mel is a lawyer, and yet they've never put this kind of paperwork together before?!? Pretty unbelievable. Commitment ceremony, wedding, or no, you'd think she'd have insisted on it, if not before, at least after Gus was born.

I know, I know, it's the writers' way of showing middle America how burdensome it is to imitate marriage if you can't marry. But they could have done it by having Mel point out which parts of that they'd already taken care of, which things they plan to do as the upcoming ceremony approaches, and even which benefits of marriage one can't simply replicate with a fancy contract (e.g. tax benefits etc.).

    Extras Question
You know how on Youtube there's the clip of Randy and Gale saying goodbye after filming their last scene? Is that on one of the DVDs? I have them all and I have never found that. Is like an Easter Egg or something? Or is it on a special edition? Help!!??

    TIA

    Elimination/editing of ambient sounds
[info]felonius_monk's recent post on Britin got me thinking about that scene, and brought back to mind something I had noticed years ago, but never discussed online.

It always bummed me out that they edited out many of the ambient sounds in the scene inside Britin.

They completely eliminated the sounds of the floorboards squeaking as Gale and Randy walked around the room. They were there in the screener, but gone from the aired version. The most obvious ones were when Brian walks toward Justin right after saying "to prove to the person that I love how much I love him" before he says "that I would give him anything..."

They also significantly lowered the volume of (well, basically eliminated) the lovely crackling sounds emanating from the fire.

I thought it was a shame that they did this -- obviously with the intent of not distracting from Brian and Justin -- because to me those sounds had added character, charm, and romance to the scene without detracting at all from the dialogue.

What do you guys think of that?
Have you ever noticed them having done that in other scenes? And if so, to good or bad effect?

House(s) used for Britin exterior and interior?
Hey, everyone! It was great seeing so many familiar names on the Members list. As a lot of you know, I'm brand-new to IJ and the QAF fandom.

I'm thrilled to see this community, because I'm rabidly obsessed with Justin's assbehind-the-scenes elements of TV shows and films.

I found the George Shickle estate here: http://www.parkwoodestate.com/html/auto.html?page_id=2&schild_id=32

Does anyone know where the exterior and interior of Britin was shot?

    RAGE Comic?
Can one get a copy of a RAGE comic? They are actually available somewhere?

    Scenic QaF scenes
I am always struck by the incredible beauty of the scene in 119 of Jack's burial in the snow-covered cemetery. They not only got very lucky with the unusual weather, but the director and DP did a great job of shooting it so as to optimize how gorgeous it looked.

Anyone else have a favorite scene wherein you think the scenery or the skill of the director and/or cinematographer made for a particularly beautiful tableau?

    Continuity issues
So, let's talk QaF continuity issues.

I've noticed a bunch of them, but I'm always distracted by Brian's avocado and peanut butter jar juggling act in 202 when Jen's asking him to take Justin. He goes from cutting the avocado to opening the peanut butter jar (without any movement in between) and putting the lid and the jar down, back to cutting the avocado while the jar is magically sitting there closed again, more cutting the avocado while the jar is magically sitting there open again, to opening the peanut butter jar and putting the lid down again.

Is there one that never ceases to amuse or irritate you?

    How bizarre.
So I was just watching 112 as I was getting ready for bed -- keep in mind that I have probably seen this episode at least several dozen times -- and I suddenly noticed something that I'd never noticed before. It's amazing to me that that can still happen.

Approximately 31 min 30 sec into the episode is the brief scene that Em flashes back to wherein Michael, Ted, and Brian are at the diner and Michael's telling them that Cher had her pussy tightened. The whole freaking diner scene is shown in reverse! As a mirror image. The film must have been edited in flipped over, presumably by accident. The register and window are at the wrong end of the diner, Brian's wearing his bracelet on his 'left' wrist (it's otherwise always on the right), Ted's watch is on his 'right,' and the lettering on the sign on the back wall is clearly reversed.

Am I the only clueless soul who never noticed this before?

    Welcome!
Welcome to the place where you can finally discuss in a community setting, any of the following subjects (among many other things) to your heart's content:

-- the relative merits of Justin's/Brian's/Lindsay's hair at various times throughout the series
-- why CowLip ended the series the way they did
-- the provenance of any and every item in Brian's loft
-- how they covered Randy's tattoo and when it's visible
-- which directors' styles you particularly like and why
-- how various people got cast
-- where you can get a copy of the Rage comic
-- what movie that was that Brian was watching when Justin came to see him in the loft
-- where in Toronto that scene was filmed
-- how many different shirts Brian and Emmett shared
-- what would have happened if Ethan hadn't cheated
-- how long they rehearsed the prom dance
-- why Emmett seems to know all about the ins and outs of crystal meth
-- how long Mel's pregnancy was
-- how many times Brian opened that peanut butter jar
-- what so-and-so said about the show in that interview or at that convention
-- what the press said about...
-- the stroke of meteorological luck that produced one of the most cinematically beautiful scenes in the show, Jack's funeral
-- how you think Logo's editing affects how a QaF virgin would interpret the show

or any of a million other possible topics relevant to our beloved Queer as Folk and it's creation, whenever the mood strikes!
