What is Easter? And how do chocolate eggs fit in?

The eggs carry over from pagan fertility rites that were celebrated around the same time as the Jewish Passover, which happens to also fall around the same time Christianity celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

You got something against chocolate?

I don't know what pagan fertility rites are, or what Jewish Passover is, or anything about Christianity and this Jesus Christ.

I was just wondering what the deal was with eggs and chocolate all of a sudden.

Religious and historical stuff. Not that it matters, holidays are so commercialized nowadays.

Oh, this is a religious thing - like all those demi-gods and that angel guy go on about?

We don't have holidays back home.

Sorry.

Easter marks the occasion of the crucifixion and Resurrection. God sent his son, Jesus, to die in place of humanity, to cleanse them on their sins and offer a new covenant that create a means for people to speak directly to the Father. He came to show them what was expected of them and to teach them a loving path. To show them how to see the Father and find everlasting reward.

It would be significant if He was listening.

The Creator was concerned over the state of His people and He sent his Son to set them an example.

They killed Him.

He rose again and continued teaching.

The creator is that 'Father' of yours you talked about before right?

So he sent his son to his people and then those people killed the creator?

And the creator rose again?

[info]heavenslancer

Yes.

No. They killed the Creators Son.

The Son rose again. Just walked out.

Okay, you keep capitalizing pronouns and that's confusing.

What's also confusing is that dead people don't 'rise again'.

It is a mark of respect.

I have been dead before. As has Dean, Sam and Joanna.

There are ways and certainly my Father has control over life and death.

Ya? Well it's confusing when you have two 'Him's and two 'He's.

And no one has the power to raise the dead. Life doesn't work that way.

No, that is insignificant and distraction. Chocolate has nothing to do with the gifts of the Lord but the symbol of the egg is significant. I think such things can have a place along side.

Maybe.

It's hard to look past the distractions sometimes, and just celebrate the fact that, hey, we're alive, and the world hasn't come to an end yet.

Have to politely disagree with you about chocolate not being a gift of the lord. Not very religious, me..but chocolate has healing and helpful qualities. Which, to me, is a sign that *someone* out there is trying to look out for us.

I did not say chocolate is not a gift of the Lord but that it has no special significant to the celebration of Easter. Of course it is a gift of God. But He is no longer looking out for you regardless of chocolate.

The Capitol didn't let us celebrate.

We all were supposed to 'celebrate' the Games, but only District 2 did that.

The Games?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]feignedweakness

Maybe.

Right, not everyone knows. The Games, or The Hunger Games, were held every years in Panem when it was under Capitol rule. Each District was required to send two children, a boy and a girl, between the ages of 12-18, to the Capitol. They would train for a few days, then they would be shoved into an arena and things weren't over until only one child remained alive. The whole thing was broadcast over all of Panem. The citizens of The Capitol really enjoyed watching everything, but then, they weren't required to provide children for slaughter. The Districts were forced to watch, and 'pretend' they enjoyed what was going on.

Good Merlin! That's horrible!

Is there a rebellion against it? That's sort of what I'm fighting at home. There's this horrible wizard who wants basically to get rid of any wizard or witch that's not "pure." Blood purity is absolute rubbish of course.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]feignedweakness
2011-04-27 02:57 pm UTC (link)
A rebellion started it all seventy-five years before. The President implemented the games when the Districts tried to rebel the first time, and failed. It was continual punishment.

Then there was another rebellion. No more Hunger Games so I guess things are better, but you never know. People like to hurt each other so it's not like it's really all that better.

Another witch huh? There are bunch of you here. What's blood purity?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]rainbowish

That's horrible.

I like to think that people are mostly good at any rate. There's a few of us, yeah. And some of them are from my future..seems like a good place to be after all that's happened.

Blood purity is this ridiculous thought that the more pure the blood -- that is, the more wizards in your bloodline -- the more "real" and the better a witch or wizard you are. But magic doesn't always just flow from wizard to wizard biologically. Sometimes Muggles, non-magical people, have magical children. My dad is muggleborn. And so is Hermione, who's a brilliant witch.
