Benji got the excited, goofy grin he always got when he was performing a magic trick for someone. He really loved the precise art and skill needed to make a trick not only work, but seem believable. It took months to master just one trick that took maybe a few seconds at most to complete. It took patience and showmanship. A lot of showmanship. A man could be the most skilled magician in the world but without showmanship he would never be an illusionist.
The reason he was performing a magic trick at that precise moment was because he and the Treblemakers had just finished up their set at the 2012 ICCA Finals in NYC. He was still on a rush, the high from the performance and the audience's reception still sending waves of excitable energy through his body. The magic trick was a fool proof way to expell some of that energy before the Bella's started their set. He wanted to be a good friend and be able to give the Bella's the same attention they had for him and the other Trebles.
Jesse was next to him so of course he was going to perform the trick for the guy who'd become so much more than just a roommate in so short a time. He was his best friend and the first person to really see him and get to know him and not try to change him. He guided him, taught him better ways to handle things, but he never tried to change him. Benji knew Jesse didn't believe he needed to be changed. He also might have been performing the trick in the hopes of impressing the other male, who also happened to be his current crush.
"Okay, so watch the token. Don't take it out of your sight. Don't blink. Heh. You good, you ready? Okay." He got into the role of performer, blue eyes bright and twinkling. He worked his hands, using the quick draw but fluid motions necessary to make the trick work. At the moment he was supposed to make the token "disappear" he shut his eyes tight as a strong, frigid wind blue back his hair. He blinked as it settled, confused as to why there was wind in the auditorium of Lincoln Center.
What he saw when his eyes opened was definitely not Lincoln Center.
Spinning around in a quick circle, followed by another one in the opposite direction, Benji's eyes went wide. What in the...
Jesse. Where was Jesse? He was right here. But now he wasn't. Or was it Benji who wasn't there. He was freaking confused. And terrified. Definitely a bit terrified.
What the hell did I do? He stared down at his hands like they were poison. Had he...? No... he couldn't have... there was no... but...
Acaholy moley.
