Lindsey McDonald had worked for the special areas division of an evil law firm in Los Angeles. There wasn't much that could surprise him, given that he had worked with monsters and demons, vampires and witches. Hell, he'd spent many a night in Caritas, a bar that was owned by a green skinned, red horned demon he almost considered a friend. Lorne had a gift for reading people when they sang, Lindsey wasn't quite sure how it worked, but maybe he heard the truth in the music or something. However it happened, it really did work, and Lindsey could use some of Lorne's insight now, but Lorne hadn't made his way to Madison Valley. Thankfully neither had Angel or Lilah or....well, anyone Lindsey didn't care to see again.
He wasn't entirely sure that he was entirely alone. The bull shit the Madison Valley Counsel was pulling these days felt a little bit like something the senior partners at Wolfram & Hart might do. They had pulled the proverbial rug out from under everyone's feet, leaving many people without any solid ground to stand on. Lindsey couldn't be certain he hadn't found himself in a tripped out hell dimension. Sure, it seemed like a quaint little town, at first. It was anything but quaint. It was quickly becoming a death trap, and there didn't see much resolution short of all out war. Lindsey wasn't really looking forward to that end.
He'd lived too long, and suffered through to much to die now. So he hadn't gone to the church to bond with the other refugees. Maybe they were all planning this big 'work together to defeat a common enemy' crap, but Lindsey was the kind of guy who looked out for number one. Anything else often led to disaster, and overwhelming disappointment. And here where he didn't truly know the enemy, there seemed a good chance it might lead to death. He'd rather take his chances and go it alone.
There was just one problem. He really enjoyed spending time with Elle. The girl was electric, quite literally, and Lindsey kind of enjoyed the shock. But he couldn't think about that now. No. He needed to think about himself, first and foremost. Always. So he headed out for a walk, casually looking for somewhere he might take cover if the whole thing went to shit and that anticipated war came to pass.
